@@irenedavo3768 These 4 elephants were captured from the wild in Tanzania, the Tanzanian Government and traders facilitated the babies capture along with a Pakistani trader. The latter boasted in a recorded interview that he encouraged the Karachi authorities to buy 4 instead of 2 and other wild caught animals besides. They were at the time protected under CITES 11 which deemed that elephants could only be removed from their home terrain if they were going to a suitable location. Pakistan’s zoos and the safari park were well known to be highly unsuitable with their history of inappropriate care of elephants.

They have not been rescued. Karachi refuses to let them go. Moreover since this video was made Noor Jehan became seriously ill with multiple other issues and died in April 2023. To date and since Noor Jehan’s death Madhubala has remained alone at Karachi zoo, where she’s seen to be growing more mentally unwell by the day. There is ongoing campaign to reunite her with Malika and Sonu/Sonia at an improved facility at Karachi safari park that Four Paws have offered to help build. Karachi authorities have to date blocked this, in spite of Dr Amir Khalil attending a week long meeting with Karachi authorities in August 2023 to plan it. Verbal agreements have not been backed up by written guarantees and Four Paws cannot begin training to relocate Madhubala or work on the new site without guarantees, they are ready to assist as soon as the zoo and safari park officials/managers give them them a written guarantee. It’s a very sad situation for the elephants, particularly Madhubala. We carry on campaigning for them with local advocates and via social media on Facebook , X and other platforms.

I hope they get real independent experts and not shills for the zoo. In Edmonton, Alberta, Canada the Edmonton Valley Zoo keeps single elephant named Lucy in a cement floored enclosure which has to be indoors because we get minus 30 degree weather in winter. Activists have been trying to get Lucy rescued and moved to an elephant sanctuary in the southern United States for DECADES. The zoo has gotten people who are NOT experts to say she is too old and cannot be moved. The Edmonton Valley Zoo is small and cannot afford her with the care and company of other elephants that she needs. Lucy is the zoo's cash cow and a tourist attraction so they don't want to let her go. She needs a proper pool to take the pressure off of her sore feet but they won't do even that for her. Please find and email Edmonton Valley Zoo to let them know they need to LET LUCY GO!!!!!!

There is an elephant sanctuary in middle Tennessee that is great. They have a big barn for them to shelter in bad weather and open fields to graze and roam. The sanctuary is truly for the well-being of the animals as they don't allow visitors anywhere near the elephants. One of the elephants killed a worker several years back and the lady's family asked that the elephant be spared. The elephant was from the circus and was philologically damaged from being mistreated there. There was an elephant that came from a zoo that was old and crippled . The zoo no longer wanted the elephant because it "looked too bad".When she got to the elephant barn she excitedly trumpeted and stirred up a ruckus and actually bent the bars. It turns out after they researched it, the elephant in the next enclosure was in a circus with her 30 years earlier. Both elephants were severely crippled and never leave each other's side.

Respectfully, I think the zoo-vets have missed the main point. It’s not the infection in the tusks that’s the concern, it’s their REMOVAL. Elephants tusks are not like a cow’s horns, they are part of the elephant’s head with tissue running through them. Zoos removal of them for ‘safety’ is like removing a human’s jaw to stop them biting; it is an HORRIFIC process and intensely cruel. Aside from the extreme cruelty of ripping African elephants from the wild and putting them in cages in cities on the other side of the world (which zoo vets presumably don’t mind) the horror of tusk removal is a crime needing URGENT PROSECUTION, if only to DISSUADE OTHER ZOOS FROM DOING THE SAME. Zoos around the world CONTINUE to cause baby elephants, chimps and other animals here in Africa to be ripped by force from their parents so they can profit from their display. If you’re reading this, PLEASE don’t visit zoos.

Correct, the zoo officials at Karachi local government declare that they don’t how come the tusks were missing in the first place though one appeared to have a straight edge indicating that it had been cut out. I can’t imagine how painful that was, nor how the elephants coped with the infections and resulting pain for so long. my Grandmother would never go to zoos or circuses, and I don’t either.

That was my first thought, too. They are broken off way too deeply, which makes me suspicious they were "broken" by some unnatural means (meaning: human). Animals in the wild do occasionally break a tusk while digging or pushing down trees, but that usually leaves a stub showing that grows to a tusk of size again.

@@pearlbonnie1369 You can’t leave God out of it if your talking about His creation or mandates. Instructions given *by God* for appropriate preparation of animal sacrifices that were burned on the altar, were a total offering *to God.* And as for eating meat, God said Genesis 9:3-4 - New Century Version (NCV) 3 “Everything that moves, everything that is alive, is yours for food. Earlier I gave you the green plants, but now I give you everything for food. 4 But you must not eat meat that still has blood in it, because blood gives life. I believe the commenter meant only as a form of expression, “thank God” to express their gratitude for Dr Khalil and others in helping the elephants.

@@PLS.54 You said that all animals should be treated with respect. You think slaughtering them and dismembering them and burning them is treating them with respect? I'm not talking about God's creation or mandates. I'm discussing the beliefs some people have about God.

I have seen the good work that 4 paws do and make a small donation each month, I would encourage anyone to consider supporting 4 paws in this way. The more support, the greater their impact on helping animals ❤ Great work 4 paws.

An African elephant in the wild walks at least hundred miles a week, caging them, even in a large padock is unreasonable. Do these "professionals" have any idea of the normal life of elephants? African elephants can be like hyper-intelligent dogs, they learn much faster and enjoy gaining new abilities.

Whose doing the surgery on the elephants? Seems like it should have been done immediately and without a report being done first. Poor elephants.

All four elephants must be located to a proper sanctuary. Their care and living conditions are appalling. I hope Four Paws can rescue them. The Pakistanis have no idea how to care for these elephants.

Thank you for your concern for the Karachi elephants and especially for Madhubala. Due to the elections at the end of June, there is now a new government in place that will ultimately decide on the future of the elephants in Karachi. We work tirelessly to convince the representatives in Karachi to enable all three elephants a life in a species-appropriate sanctuary with international standards. Please be assured that we are working towards this goal. We are not giving up on the Karachi elephants. We keep you updated as soon as there are new developments.

I would suspect the two females missing their trunks, both at the same zoo were not broken but cut off badly. And the woman at the end says with proper care and food they could live a long time......under those conditions it is sad to imagine a long life like that.
