I dont think its the 33rd time they do the expedition. I think its the expedition where everybody that is 33 years old goes to the paintress to stop it since they gonna die soon anyway. The next expedition would be 32

I do agree that it's probably not the 33rd Expedition and it's just named after the painted number (But it could be well past the 33rd Expedition already if The Paintress started at something like 100). However they say in the Trailer that "everybody of that age (The number The Paintress paints) vanishes into nothingness", so everybody that is 33 years old has already disappeared, everyone who is 32 would be next to disappear. So it just means that everybody on Expedition 33 is

Lol, this beautiful story reminds me of a story I wrote in 8th grade about a planet that is constantly getting destroyed over and over again. I love this genre and am excited to see more lore!

Did you get the tonal shifts with the gradient counter? Seems like color is a main gimmick of the game, maybe related to the "paintress" and even "clair obscur" being chiaroscuro in french.
