it’s not mads’ fault, and mads is pretty universally loved as an actor/person - i don’t think it’ll hurt him tbh. he was a pretty popular fancast from the start for these movies too.

My Niece is in this movie. She plays a Slytherin student and because of Covid they CGI'd her dozens of times to fill out scenes. She absolutely loved being in it.

I am excited for this film even though the last one was pretty underwhelming. I can't wait to see how things are going to unfold between Dumbledore and Grindelwald. Love that they brought Mads Mikkelsen and I am eagerly waiting for what he will show us.

It would be cool if the wand is a way for Jacob to see magical places. Usually muggles aren't able to see places like The Leaky Cauldron or Hogwarts because there are muggle repelling charms on them. Maybe the "wand" in his possession ensures he can see what the rest of them do. And also may help disguise to enemies that he's not a real wizard. Muggle/wizard relations would be strained so maybe it's also for his protection.

I think it’s odd that we didn’t see Tina at all in the trailer. We seen her sister but not Tina. I’m also curious to see how long after crimes of grindelwald this takes place. That took place in 1927 and dumbledore vs grindelwald is in 1945. That’s 18 years they have to make up between then and the final movie.

Tina is in the trailer. She's in the back in that very brief shot of the gang in what looks like the Great Hall? The "3 points to Hufflepuff" scene. I had to rewatch the trailer twice to catch her lol.

It's actually kind of funny to me because I have almost always kind of seen Mads and Ralph Fiennes in the same kind of space. So, knowing that Grindlewald influences Voldemort is great. If I had been in fancasting or something when this first came out, I would have picked Mads. Personally.

I personally love the toned down image of Mads' Grindelwald so much, it's what a lot of fans always saw the character as. I adore Depp and thought his character design was very cool and creative, but it just never felt intimidating as it should've been. Mads is amazing at bringing these evil characters to life through his facial expressions alone, so he really didn't need tons of makeup to look sell this dark wizard look.

@@erikperhs_ Actually that change was not really noticed because how similar both looked with beard and all.But this is different here because Depp was fired while they still kept Erza miller and Amber made everyone hate the whole thing.I know Mads is really great actor,but if they can't come up with good story everything will fall apart.

@@rohits7364 People who only see the actor really take something away from the actual character. Gellert Grindlewald is suppose to be blonde and and somewhat of an antihero. Dumbledore is suppose to be a red head (not that big of a deal. Thing they did make JL that). Noone ever keeps with the books anymore. 😭 but, I'm looking forward to Mads portrayal, I think he might be able to play the character well. Thing is though, I always pictured Grindlewald being smiling and charming to beguile his base. The last two movies didn't really portray that. I'm hoping Mads take might but his smiles are rare. Charming, but rare when he plays villains. What do you think? 🤔

@@buttercuplove4030 Yeah I agree. Mads was still very respectful about it though. Said he very much looked up to Depp as an actor and will not try to do what he did with the role. He’s gonna go his own path, so he is gonna have a very different feel as Grindy. At this point I can only hope that if another Pirates of the Caribbean is made they won’t drop Depp as Jack Sparrow. PotC and Depp are way more inseparable. Also, I’m not so much mad at the studio deciding to separate themselves from the drama by dropping Depp, but by the blatant double standard the industry has shown. So you drop Depp from this film, but not Amber Heard from Aquaman 2? Like at least be consistent, and not be so blatantly biased. This shouldn’t be “well she’s a woman, and he’s a man, so that’s how it is” situation. Amber Heard is just a shitty fucking person, and should be treated as such based on her personality alone.

My theory - We are in Brazil because newt needs to find a specific magical creature in the rainforest/jungle with a property that Dumbledore needs to be able to destroy the blood pact. Pretty sure 1:27 will be Castelobruxo ? The Brazilian school, I think the green and yellow we see here and there is that schools colours too.

As I'm one who is still disappointed about the firing of Johnny I do hope Madds does a good job with the role. I couldn't been the only one who got giddy when Jacob finally becomes a wizard as he wanted from that deleted scene from the first movie.

My feelings on the Mads situation is really difficult because originally I hated the casting of Johnny in the first film as I always thought Mads would be the best actor to play Grindelwald. But, after watching the second film I though Johnny was awesome and the way everything turned out was really dirty so he definitely didn’t deserve to lose the role.

Since Jacob says the wand is dangerous, I’m wondering if it’s a villain’s wand (or maybe Slytherin’s?) and they are giving it to a muggle to protect because the pure-blood obsessed wizards (Grindelwald and his followers) would never think to check him. 🤷♂️ Love you guys! 🥳

I love Mads Mikkelsen, and I really want to be excited for this movie (even though the last two weren't that great), but I just can't get over how badly Depp's been treated. I think it's so heinously wrong what Warner Bros. and the rest of Hollywood are doing to him, and I can't support this movie in good conscience because of it.

Strangely originally Mikkelsen was the choice for Grindelwald by Yates director but studio wanted Depp instead and they kicked him.... Mikkelsen is good also!

I thought you had to pick your own wand in the harry potter universe to kinda form a special bond with it. I suppose dumbledore could have enchanted the wand and tethered it too him so that he if able to perform magical spells novice ones most likely because giving a tremendous amount of power to a muggle doesn't seem wise.

When I saw Mads Mikkelsen in Hannibal; I fell in love! As soon as I saw this thumbnail I was going to recommend as a reaction vid…. Sooooooo glad you’ve already seen it!!! I’m obsessed!!!! On the flip side: now I have a reason to suffer through the first 2 Fantastic Beasts. 😭

I never saw Johnny Depp as Grindelwald and I love Johnny Depp. It's just all the little glimpses we got of Grindelwald in the books just never added up yo the character Depp played. But I am 100% behind mads mikkelsen. I xant wait to see him play opposite Jude Laws Dumbledore.

If it turns out that they are in "The room of requirements" it will be another contradiction to the books...where it is clearly stated that Dumbledore had no idea about the existence of it...but he did accidentally enter it once... during which it took the form of a toilet...coz he was looking for one.

Its just careless 'they won't notice the difference' writing which degrades the reader, who does notice the difference, BIG TIME.

I’m glad it looks like they’re going to be adding more beasts in this film, Mads could be a great villain, and can muggles essentially use magic (a thing I always wondered)? We see only very powerful wizards use magic without wands (ex. Dumbledore, Grindlewald, Harry, Voldemort) so I always wondered if anyone can use magic, but have different affinities for it. I mean Hermoine has muggle parents, so…idk.

Jacob cannot become a wizard, right? Jacob is a no-maj. A no-maj folk can't be taught magic unless they inherited magic from a distant relative or they are already born with magic like Lily Potter or Hermione Granger. Or maybe they would change it that all muggles can be taught magic. Anyways, giving jacob a wand doesn't make sense to me. I think they just give him a wand to make him not out of place, since he's the only Muggle. Still excited for the movie tho.

Honestly, Mads should have been the first casting lol Depp was ok but hardly what I'd call an outstanding performance. Colin Farrell had more screen time as Grindelwald than Depp did, so this idea I see some fans floating around that Depp is "irreplaceable" is a little silly. In the first movie he looked drunk or unwell, I couldn't tell which but he did not look great. He improved in the second film but I can't say I'll miss him.

Exactly! From what little we’ve seen of Mads, I can safely say that his portrayal of Gellert is the menacing Gellert Grindelwald I see every time I read the books. Not that Depp didn’t do a good job. I just felt like he was playing another Tim Burton role.

The fact that I am not losing my mind over the look of this movie shows how badly Crimes Of Grindewald burned my excitement and passion for one of my favorite movie franchises of all time. I also wish they would’ve shown more of Mads Mikkelson as Grindewald. I honestly think he is a better actor right now than Johnny Depp. Plus he doesn’t look like a White Walker.

If you think about the back story between Dumbledore and Grindelwald, ask yourself who Dumbledore would have been best friends with, the Johnny Depp version or this version? I think this version works better and would have been good if they had cast this guy originally.

I'm gonna see this movie im most likely gonna like but I won't be forgetting that Warner bros got rid of depp as grindalwald but kept amber for aquaman. At least the actor they picked for grindal should be able to pull it off. I hope Warner bros eventually comes to they're senses gets rid of amber and bring depp back.

I love this perfect recast. People there are always two people for the role which is why fan casting is a thing. That rumor of the Philadelphia actor vs. The desire of the john krasinki as Mr. Fantastic idea happens. I wouldn't have thought about him since im not a fan from the start to know roles and all that. Mads Mikkelsen is the best option. Depp was a given against Mads for a known actor for a villain role.

All the people who are whining and bitching about mads being Grindelwald are about to watch this movie and realise he is the only good thing about the whole damn Fantastic Beast series. Mads Mikkelson is a fucking genius, he's been in masterpieces and trainwrecks and yet ALWAYS manages to be the most captivating cast member on screen at all times. There's movies he's been in that are just awful but his scenes are still worth watching lol. Hannibal is a masterpiece and he really threw his whole body and soul into that - insane fight scenes, humour, emotion, cruelty, he just never half asses anything.

There was a whole point made in the seventh book about Dumbledore not knowing about the room of requirement wasn't it ? Harry was thinking to himself that Flitwick and Dumbledore didn't find the diadem of Ravenclaw because being good students they didn't do anything against the rules, but Voldemort did explore Hogwarts so knew about it. If Dumbledore knew about the room of requirement, and spent several years searshing for the horcruxes, how come he didn't find the diadem ? That's why a sequel series would have been better, Fantastic Beasts is only good at fan service and creating plot holes.

I just saw both films on hbo max today and I liked them I feel like the ending in both films drag to make its 2 hour window and that Johnny deep ringmaster speech at the end what was that and people basically committing suicide but I like them can’t wait for 3rd 4th and 5 film!

i find it funny how people get upset as if Depp is the only real Grindelwald as if he had embodied him in 10+ films and practically engraved his face for all eternity like Daniel Radcliffe for Harry or similar. He had like 5min screentime in the first and maybe 30min in the second which was not so great. Of course it wasn't bad and of course I would also love to have him in the third one too.. but People can really exaggerate it by boycotting the film completely. Especially since it also fits Grindelwald that he has a different face now because he likes to change his face to confuse those who hunt him etc. and not to reveal his real identity, for example Mikkelson's face could be the real Grindelwald and Depps just another of his Masquerades.

That’s not why people are mad. People aren’t mad about the recast itself; they are upset about the REASON for the recast and the situation with Amber Heard as it shows a blatant double standard in the industry when Depp lost all of these roles yet Amber Heard is getting away mostly unscathed and still having a major role in Aquaman 2. The context is important. No one is mad at Mads (lol), and he was very respectful about taking over the role and how is going in a different direction with it. People are pissed at WB for how they handled the situation, which I can understand. However, never been a fan of boycotting as it never makes much of a difference. They aren’t going to bring him back at this point. Still planning on watching this personally, and I’m sure I’ll enjoy Mads performance, he’s an excellent actor. No denying Depp was done dirty though by WB.
