Farmall M with a 9 Speed??

In this video, we are rolling in some black oats we planted as a cover crop. I took this opportunity to give you all a rundown and back story on the M Farmall we are using. This tractor has a pretty rare M&W 9 speed conversion kit in the transmission. The kit gives a better range of gears between the stock 4th and 5th gears. Don't know if this is the same add on but I remember driving a Super MD with the additional gears. You couldn't use it with the PTO because it increased the PTO rpms too. A brush sounded like it was going to fly away.

Nice setup on ya'lls M. Have never heard of a 9 speed. Your dad really has made that M a more versatile tractor

Good day from Ont. Canada Few yrs. ago got abook at library . Story of farmer in states telling day by day. In there he said he had 9 spd. Well growing up we SW-6 & W=4. Well spds are different in regular tractor compared to super. It was interesting. Thanks

I put gears from a I6 in my M . Got a lower 1st gear and a higher 4th. That was more useful than stock. A feller could order a tractor from the factory that way.

Why didn't you install a hydraulic pump on the outside of the frame rail driven by a sprocket on the crank shaft, position of the clutch is of no concern? Should have a wide front end.

i was a IHC mechanic in the mid 70s since i was the new wrench in the shop i got all the service work on the older Farmalls. the dealer was also a M&W gear Co installer.. i serviced some of the M&W everything Ms. you ask what is that it is a M with the stroked engine a 450 LP head with the carb kit and the governor kit the hand clutch the power steering add on and the custom hydraulics. with the high output engine at 75-95hp it also had a custom clutch disk and pressure plate, clutch shaft and transmission coupling..it would handle 4 -16 plow or a 5 -14 plow in most ground. they out performed a 560 gas on much less fuel. i just love the H and M series and the 300s and 400s the ultimate versions of the SH and the SMTA.

I was born in 49 these were big tractors in the day you can fix them up better than new,if you have the help with four or five of them around you can farm three to four hundred acres for an investment of less than half of of what most people think they have to spend.
