Amazing how the sound of that tractor brings back memories from 50 years ago. Sounds like new!

I always like to see people modernizing older tractors to keep them relevant and useful. There are plenty of restored and preserved original tractors, so it's nice to be able to make modifications to suit your needs and not feel bad about doing it.

Thank you! I feel that there are plenty restored H and M out there... and when you start with pieces from several tractors it's not a restoration anyway. I enjoy using my old Farmalls!

Also on my M it came with some kinda dealer installed disk brakes. They're shot now , and to get them relined is gonna cost a bunch of $$$. I just ordered a dual hydraulic master cylinder, cable / hydraulic calipers. Gonna make my M automotive disk brake with cable parking brake. When my back is out it's hard to set the parking brake, so the cable brakes will be the bomb 💣. If they work well I'm thinking about making them a kit and selling them.

I own a 1948 Farmall H with a Heisler 9-speed; first H I ever saw with this option. Normally, the Ms had the 9-speed addition. They were great for hauling loads of ear corn or pulling a rotary hoe. I live in NW IL and have plenty of gravel roads out here to "get lost" in the country. I had it converted to 12 volts about 5 years ago and wish I had it done sooner. Thanks for showing us your M.

@@clembuck6006 I would assume around 35 to 40 since it appears to just have flat top pistons and the low compression head.

Basically an overdrive gear on the countershaft, speeds up 1st through 4th, also overdrives the PTO and belly pump. I will see if I can put together a video of the literature I have collected.

Big reason why fellas did that was for being able to hoe corn. Other wise 4th gear to slow. 5th gear in a m could out run anything in road gear.
@mattdidier2256 Жыл бұрын
My super m has 18.4 38 tires I think it goes faster in 5th than I trust my ability to correct for the worn front end
@mikevaske8255 Жыл бұрын
If I understand you correctly, you still don't have live hydraulic, you need the clutch engaged. Have you considered adding a hydraulic pump driven from the crank shaft, live pump, 3000 psi and 25 to 35 gpm.
@smgussey Жыл бұрын
That's correct, it's not live. I have no need for a live system for mowing, raking, and moving equipment around. The next one I build will be as you stated, direct drive from the crankshaft like a JD.

The bosses for the mounts are not on a 41 model. I believe the 1954 Super MTA was the first to have the proper bosses and mounting holes. I would like a Saginaw 3 point for it, but I am not spending $1500 for it... we have a 544, 886, 1086, and 4450 MFWD with 3 point if I need it.

Shouldn't a 1941 engine have magneto ignition?
@smgussey3 жыл бұрын
Correct, but the distributor ignition was probably put on many years ago and it runs so nice with the Pertronix module. This is a tractor I built for work, so original condition is not a concern.

@@smgussey Our Farmall A is for work, mag ig. 1946. I do not know if anybody makes a kit to convert it to breaker ig. or solid state. I got it running so good on mag I would hate to convert it unless I found a sure thing.
@smgussey3 жыл бұрын
If you want to convert, just need to buy a distributor off anything from the A through 450. I have magneto on my H and A, they work great and it's nice to be able to run them without a battery if needed. If the mag works, then keep running it.
