►Replacing the front control arms on your Porsche 996 is one of the best things you can do to refresh and revitalize the way your Porsche handles. If you're experiencing any popping, clunking, or clicking sounds while traveling over rough surfaces, it may be time to refresh your front suspension.
This is a comprehensive kit offered here at FCP Euro utilizing Meyle & TRW replacement parts including control arm and ball joint assemblies, ball joints, stabilizer bar links, tie rods, and steering rack bellows.
We recommend replacing all of these components if you have in excess of 80K miles on your vehicle and still have original components. We also encourage that you replace your control arm components if you are experiencing the following symptoms:
-Popping, clunking, or clicking sounds while traveling over bumps or dips in the road
-A disconnected feeling between the steering wheel and front end of the car
-Vehicle is slow to respond to steering inputs
-Vehicle wanders on the highway or will not drive straight
-Vehicle cannot be aligned properly due to play in the front suspension

You make the best tutorials on KZfaq. Well filmed, clear and well explained and you also have a pleasant way of speaking. I hope you will post many more 996 videos.

I’d like to use Meyle parts in my 986 but seen in videos that the brake air duct doesn’t fit seamlessly and needs some cutting so it can be latched back on. That made me have second thoughts on Meyle’s parts. Any thoughts?

May be a stupid question - but how do you know you have it at ride height - when doing the final torque ? Do you take a measurement before work starts with wheel on - measuring from centre of wheel to top of wheel Arch - and then replicate that measurement with center of wheel hub to top of wheel arch?
@fcpeuro

Hi Hugh, you could start by taking a measurement from the center of the wheel to the lip of the fender and then replicate that with your floor jack when ready to tighten down the new hardware.

Do you guys have someone to chat with regarding what I need to do a suspension refresh, either via phone/email, or in person? I'm pretty local, just up route 25 from you guys in Newtown.

Can you verify if the ball joint seats a little different than the original? I’ve torqued to spec but it looks like it’s not as far seated.

Hi Frank, looks the same for both. Can always seat the car down on it own weight, and recheck.

How do you determine the ride height before tightening the lower control arm? In the video, he just said to tighten the ride height.

You can always measure the center of the wheel and the fender liner before removing the wheel. On the lift, we go until were about to take weight off of the lift arm and set it that way!

Exact same. However control arms vary in length depending on model i.e. C2 vs 4S

I see that you're applying torque to the bolts, but conventional wisdom suggests that torque should be applied to nuts. Since the nut/bolt attachments aren't threaded into the control arms themselves, is this a moot point? Are the torque values specific to the bolt side of the fastener, and therefore is also a moot point? Or am I just splitting hairs and overly concerned for no reason, and therefore also a moot point and I need to relax? lol Thanks!
