Hi Anthony, I have suffered the same issues as you with the weather. I have a lot of empty space at the moment. However, I did take your advise and have some brassica seedling germinated for an early crop. Cheers 👍

Good stuff mate I need to do an update on my brassicas they are powering along at the moment as long as you look after them during the really hot weather. My next round of broccoli and cabbages have just germinated

Your patch is looking good Anthony, like you we have had so much heat and humidity here in Brisbane everything is struggling. Looking forward to seeing how your brassieres go. Jacqui

Your garden is doing very well for you and yes that lemon tree needs a good trim, a herb garden is a great addition. Here in Melb the days have mostly been in the low 20s and under but there's a few coming over 30 later this week. I actually love this cooler weather but veggies and fruits don't. I'm concentrating on getting those new cut flower beds filled and planted out then I'll get stuck in to getting the cool weather veggies in. Have a lovely day.🌞🍋🥦🍅🫑

Sad to report that my tomatoes have been attacked by rats!! Caught one of the buggers in the netting too!! Sent him packing!! LOL!! There are still one or two there that are still worth saving!! But I think the plant is almost done cause of the hot weather...and the fact that it's nearly the end of summer!! P.S... that was one noisy chook!! LOL!! Cheers!!

Yea! A Sydney garden channel 🎉 Sorry to hear about the rats. Last year I grew mine in raised beds and no issues. Did not plant this year due to health issues and with the dry/rain/dry/rain would have split anyway. Very informative, thanks for taking the time to create these videos.

@@hardygardener3091 I wish I had planted cucumbers this year!! But I knew it would have been a wasted effort cause of the rats!! It's disappointing and frustrating sometimes!!

Yeha rats can be hard work. I found that having a yard cat really helps. My kitty catches alot of them and i also do a fair bit of baiting so i keep their numbers down

I have a video on it I use copper oxichloride to control mildew and I probably spray fortnightly. I use pyrethrum against thrips which I seem to have a real issue with in my patch

Anthony, you've got a very vocal chook just like one of mine 😂 Regarding avos, I've heard they don't tolerate strong winds well.

haha yeah the chickens dont know when to shut up though i find they add to the videos :-) We did have alot of wind in september which knocked off alot of the small fruit buds. Im going to make sure that i add the irrigation line around the base this year also

I hear ya! We left Dubbo for cooler Bega. I don't miss the exhausting heat one bit, but my poor folks are still there struggling to grow anything 😞

Hi Anthony! I have had my avocado tree for roughly 7 years and until last year it produced and looks like it is going to this year. Maybe just wait a little longer.

Hi pamela, i source my seeds from a number of sites. Most of my seeds are sourced from active vista seeds especially my tomatoes, cucumbers, brassicas, eggplant and zucchini www.activevista.com.au/category/seeds/vegetable/ I also use happy valley seeds and the seed collection for specific seeds especially if i am looking at buying in bulk, and i have used green harvest seeds in the past though they have since closed down www.happyvalleyseeds.com.au/collections/vegetable-seeds www.theseedcollection.com.au/vegetable

Hi, I see you don't use any mulch around your plantings, any reason why?
@sydneybackyardveggies9612
@sydneybackyardveggies9612 5 ай бұрын
I do mulch but not in the traditional sense. I use closer planting spaces so that the plants shade the soil and also either add manure or i agitate the soil so that it acts as a natural much around the plants. I dont add mulch in the sense of adding sugar cane mulch etc as i find it impacts on my ability to water and add nutrients. Generally speaking i find i can control the weeds and add fertilisier easier this way.
