Today we'll be repairing and modifying a waveform generator that's been discussed pretty heavily discussed on KZfaq and online forums, the FeelTech FY6800. I'm not going to go very deep into the issues that have already been discovered on this generator and it's predecessor, the FY6600, I'd like to mainly focus on my "solution" and the repair to this particular unit.
In the second video of this series we'll look at the performance of the unit, but it won't be a very in depth overview/review, because I feel that particular subject has been beaten enough already.
Don't forget to go check out my Instagram @bebsrepairbench!
Thanks to MG Chemicals for generously providing the consumables I use in my videos, if you're interested in getting some top quality stuff, check out the following links:

I've seen videos on these, crazy the amount of voltage that comes off the BNC's. Great repair....great price, Ida bought it for that as well....even though I don't need...it's a great price! :) ~Jack, VEG

I didn't really need it either, but I couldn't pass up the chance to get a better interface and a little higher frequency range. All in all I like it.

You should check your video before uploading. The audio is terrible.

I tried to get them to shut down the multiple CNC mills running in the background, but they insisted that the money making production was more important.

Yeah. Imagine hearing that all day long for a month. I'm pretty sure I've been desensitized to that particular frequency.

You got lucky assuming that the loose wire was supposed to go into that plug. Especially since there was no pin in the plug that it might have broken off from. It just looked wrong after I'd just watched another video on these. So I opened mine, and that wire goes to the ground pin of the IEC socket. BTW: You may find my mod to the multifunction tester of interest: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pNKfotOmrci7cac.html

I live my life on luck and coffee! I knew it was a ground, but wasn't sure where it originally went. Nice to know they at least attempted to ground the board, even if it's obviously a way that's prone to failure. I think the way I have it set up now is much better, with the loose wire now acting as an additional ground conductor between boards, and a heavier wire actually grounding everything to the plug. Cool modification on the multifunction tester, it looks like it makes it a lot more versatile! And thanks for the input!

@@bebsrepairbench5074 The original design of the FY6600 had 2 ground wires in the cable between the Power Supply and Generator boards, as you’ve reverted to. Later versions removed one of the ground wires from the Generator board and connected that wire to the ground of the IEC connector - effectively tying DC ground to mains AC (earth) ground.

Grounding is not something I ever do with my oscilloscope or my signal generator. Many times there have been sparks flying around with grounding stuff working on both audio and RF equipment. Not a good thing. I own the FT6900 unit. It's a great unit for the most part. I would also not solder that diode back in the way they did. I would stand it up on one end and put a 180 degree turn with the other lead back to the board. If that fuse ever blows, then there is no way putting a new on it helps. The switching supply is then blown. I have yet to ever see fuse blown on a power supply like that after a fuse blows that it is salvageable. Putting the extra fuse in there is really a lot of work for nothing. In the last 45+ years of my experience in equipment repair that I would ever do that. All you had to do to make the fuse work was to remove ONE wire off the connector then to the power supply. The use of a 5 amp circuit breaker is probably 10 times larger than the power supply would ever draw. You will have melted circuit board wires blown first. Voltage on the jacks is at minimal current, so it is never going to be a problem.
