BlackSeaRC presents the first video in a series looking at the FeiYue FY-03H (FY03H) Desert Eagle 1:12 scale Ready-To-Run (RTR) radio controlled (RC) off-road buggy. The FY-03H is a higher-spec version of the basic FY-03 Eagle and is powered by a brushless motor and has upgraded parts including a 45A metal case waterproof ESC, high-torque steering servo, and a full set of metal bearings. It features 4WD with front and rear differentials (with metal gears). The buggy uses independent wishbone suspension at the front and a solid axle with 4-link suspension at the rear. Coil spring shock absorbers are used all round. A 2.4GHz fully-proportional radio control system is provided. It comes with two settings - a high performance mode or a "children's" setting where performance is restricted. The FY-03H even comes with anodized metal body panels rather than plastic components.
This hobby grade RTR racing buggy offers high performance and a good specification at a very competitive price making it a popular choice for those looking for an entry-level machine. But what should you expect to get for your money? In this video, BlackSeaRC unboxes the buggy and then shows all the features in close-up detail. In the follow-up video, the FY-03H will be powered-up and subjected to functional and performance testing.
Furthermore, in future videos, we shall install an optional 6-piece LED lighting kit and investigate what other upgrade parts are available. For fans of scale realistic RC vehicles, we will also look at what options are available to further improve the realism.
FeiYue Model is a Chinese manufacturer of RC vehicles based in Shantou. For further information about products including cars and upgrade parts, see:

In some markets, this FeiYue product is re-branded and the different variants are sold as the Amewi Metal Eagle, Amewi Eagle Pro and the Amewi Dark Rampage. For details, see:

Thanks, I also really like the look of this buggy. But what attracted me was the price. The big brands such as Tamiya, Kyosho, Traxxas, Axial, Gmade, Losi, etc have off-road "Baja style" racing buggies but these cost considerably more. If you are just getting into the RC hobby, then spending >200 GBP is a lot of money. For under 100 GBP you are getting a ready-to-run product with a great specification and hopefully it drives well too (we will see in the next part of the video). After all, if it is cheap but drives badly then it isn't such a bargain.

I prefer the gray color.

Actually Brad, I agree with you, but my son chose the colour because he is going to be the driver. He was fed up with all his toy RC cars getting stuck in the sand or on little rocks so wanted a hobby grade machine of his own. He has been driving my 1:18 scale crawlers to get used to the controls and is now graduating onto something with a bit more performance.

Maybe can you make a video where you try it on the Off-road terrain

There will be a follow-up video showing the testing. I was going to include it in this video but it was getting too long so I thought I'd do a separate one. Also, I wanted to add a few more parts for better scale realism so that will be coming soon as well.

Yes, it has been a long time coming but I finally made a video of this buggy in action. Is it actually too fast for the capabilities of the chassis? It is pretty difficult to handle on rough terrain at high speed. See what you think.

Are all the electronics waterproof so the ESC is but is the servo waterproof in the receiver waterproof?
@BlackSeaRC
@BlackSeaRC 2 жыл бұрын
That is a very good question! The silly thing is, I even don't know the answer! I have read things that say it is waterproof but other sources say that it is not. Usually, when I buy any product I carefully examine all the specifications and learn each detail about them. With this FeiYue (and some other Chinese brands), they seem to keep the exact specifications to themselves as if it is some kind of secret. Even the shops selling them quote different things for the same product so it is hard to know what to believe. The packaging box gives nothing away and neither does the operating guide. They even don't want to identify the manufacturer on the box!

So the 3,000 and the 1500 batteries you run them in series or parallel whichever gives you longer run time so that mean you can run them both at the same time and have 4,500 milliamps? Oh I put out a new video on My ground pounder but I like two of them.
@BlackSeaRC
@BlackSeaRC 2 жыл бұрын
The 'Y' cable provided is supposed to allow you to connect both batteries at once. This increases run time but it doesn't improve performance. Ideally, it would work better with 2 batteries that are exactly the same. In this case, the batteries provided are different types (one is LiPo, one is Li-ion), different capacities and even different dimensions! It is just about possible to strap both batteries in place but it is certainly not very neat. Two of the smaller batteries would work a little bit better as I think they just about squeeze into the battery tray when mounted back-to-back. In my opinion it is better to just use one battery at a time and carry the other one in your pocket, then swap them out as required. I really don't see the need to attach both at once.

Is motor waterproof and you don't know the KV do you? I believe it'll go over 20 miles an hour for sure think I've seen him do that doesn't have it like a two-speed transmission on it cuz some of them do?

Official OEM technical specifications for the FeiYue are very hard to determine I'm afraid. I have seen at least 2 different claimed ratings for this brushless motor. Where I bought mine, it claims it is rated at 3800 KV but others say it is 2700 KV. There are also wild claims about the top speed (up to 70 kph!!!) but I reckon it will be somewhere between 30-50 kph. The RC handset lets you select 2 different modes of operation depending upon whether you want the beginner or high speed mode but this is done electronically rather than by gearing.

I finally got around to making a video of this buggy in action. I had forgotten how fast it is (not sure of the actual speed though). In reality, if you don't have much space, it can be too fast and that means a lot of crashes. I had been considering buying a new 3S buggy and I'm now having second thoughts that it would be too quick for the terrain and that maybe you can have more fun with better handling and less speed. Check out the new video at BlackSeaRC and leave a comment. Thanks!

Do you think if you opened up the friction dampers on it you could put some Marine grease in them to give them some dampening?
@BlackSeaRC
@BlackSeaRC 2 жыл бұрын
The suspension is one of the recognised weak points on this buggy as it doesn't use oil dampers. When this buggy was first released, it was more of a low-speed crawler type machine but it has gradually been made faster and the suspension never got upgraded to suit. There are lots of upgrade options available at reasonable prices though. Sometimes, using a high viscosity grease will work so I'll give it a few runs as it is and then see what can be done. I suspect it will be best to drive on loose dirt surfaces or sand (only I don't have any sandy beaches nearby, just stones).

Why? It is a good performing buggy with full hobby grade parts for the price close to a toy grade RC car. It even has a brushless motor set-up. In fact, I have seen toy grade machines with non-proportional controls, virtually no off-road ability and very basic steering and suspension for higher prices than this. This is actually rugged, durable and built to a high quality standard. Furthermore, it actually looks pretty good and there are various upgrade parts available. I have added a few customisation parts to mine including front/roof/rear lights, scale accessories, etc and it already looks much better.

By the way, I am just in the process of ordering a Gmade GOM GR-01 buggy. This is one of my favourite rock buggies and has great performance and looks. However, it is around 5x the price of the FeiYue to get it running. The FeiYue is great for beginners just getting into the RC hobby.
