Louis Thomas Jordan was born in 1908, his father was a music teacher and band leader, he studied clarinet and saxophone at a young age, by his teens he was playing in his fathers band. He was playing professionally by thee late 1920's. Louis played with various bands including Chick Webb. In 1938 he started his own band, The Tympany Five.
He played alto sax, clarinet and piano and also sang. He soon started duetting with stars of the day including Bing Crosby, Ella Fitzzgerald who he met while working for Webb and Louis Armstrong.
'Ain't Nobody Here But Us Chickens' was recorded in 194 but released in the UK in 1947 on this double A sided record.
The recording was #1 on the US R'n'B chart for 17 weeks and #6 on the main Billboard chart. It was added to the Grammy Hall Of Fame in 2013.
