From what I heard, the hired security that is supposed to be designed for conventions didn't want to do their job. I can't tell why but it felt like actual square staff were trying to help where they could and the hired 3rd party help were being painfully lazy. Unfortunately this looks very badly on Squares end. p.s. Friendly reminder that fans wanted even more people to go. That would of been a big oof right there.

I've never been to an event that didn't have hiccups, and having been on the backend before... yeah something is ALWAYS going to hit the fan. I'm glad you had fun! I'd call that a success

I went to 3 fanfests so far, this one was by far my least favorite. We had 2-6 hr delays across the board for all my friends getting into Vegas and getting out. One of my friends got T-boned in a car accident on the way to the airport so he couldn't even go. I got in early but half my friends were stuck outside for 2 hours in the heat waiting to get in and they let people in so late that my friends straight up missed the reveal trailer during the keynote and had to watch the stream while waiting to get inside. The heat was also so intense I had to take my boyfriend to the hospital 5 mins prior to the Primals concert because it set off a chain reaction of health issues. My boyfriend and his brother also ended up getting infected with Covid from the trip. It was an absolute mess, never had anything close to this level of chaos in the previous fanfests.

I'm used to attending conventions, and this one was fun but could have been improved a lot more with consistency and communication from the staff. I was lucky enough to get a 1 PM return ticket on Day 1 Merch line, but I felt bad for people who fell in line way later to find out from other attendees that merch was capped for the day. As for security, Day 2 was better but I felt that there should have been more stationed outside the building. I had a blast in my Hermes cosplay despite the sweltering heat. It's nice to see people state that they had a great time, both concerts were well worth the price. Hopefully next time if I can attend I can acquire your autograph since your channel keeps the ff14 spirit going in between patches.

I haven't finished watching the video -- just started! -- but I appreciate your calling out the parts of the event that were a shitshow. Personal experience: My bestie is ADA, they need a cane to get around. ADA seating wasn't sufficient. I wouldn't have minded sitting on the floor by or behind them, but the only time we got chairs was before the keynote when a very kind couple offered their seats. For the concerts, we had to sit on the floor -- and the volume / mixing of the Primals concert was so bad, we had to leave before the first song. Bestie had earplugs in, we were FAR from the stage, even behind the soundbooth area, content to watch the highlights on one of the overhead TVs. But the volume was so loud, they immediately had a panic attack and retreated to the back by the Thavnair seating area. It was STILL too loud! Had to leave the venue, beyond the security check-in gates, and sit by I think what was a closed-down cafeteria for it to be a reasonable volume. And I've been to concerts, my bestie has performed on stage in rock concerts in the past, and it never bothered them. Plus, the walkway to the connecting hotel was SHAKING from the bass or whatever from the concert; we even heard it pretty clearly when we were OUTSIDE the venue. It was absolutely insane. As for the other ADA stuff, I saw a lot of people upset that the ADA seating was insufficient, never delegated properly, and before the concert happened the announcer asked the pit of people standing by the front to take a huge step back; this inadvertently caused them to push into ADA. I don't blame the dev team themselves, but Square Enix and/or everyone involved in the organization of that event need to be held accountable. I personally don't need a refund; I can't speak for ADA folks who deserve an apology and woudl probably like a refund. I just want them to choose a different venue in the future, AND be better prepared for future Fanfest. I won't attend another Fanfest; the streams will be more than enough! Also, fuck Vegas, never going back there period lmao Also!! If anyone plans to go to other fanfests PLEASE MASK UP AND/OR BE RESPONSIBLE IF YOU'RE SICK. That's the only way bestie and I avoided con flu. And the COVID spread. Edit: YES! Why didn't we get the LARGER convention space? That I blame the event coordinators for. We really needed more space! --- And yeah, if you want merch go to the online preorder. Don't bother with getting in line for merch. At least if the other fanfests are just as badly coordinated.

I ran into you at the lines just before they opened the main hall! It was so cool seeing you there as a fan, and yeah, security was almost nonexistent. The Battle Station line also got smashed by the merch line on the first set of players, and almost no one made it to Merch anyways. It was really rough! Also those poor quest givers at the different areas having to talk so much all day, I felt for them.

Would've loved to meet you at the convention! This was my first con and trip to Vegas as well, and I completely agree with your points. I kept pausing the video to expand on them for my friend from my experiences just to unpause and have you share the same thoughts or experiences, which was pretty funny. For the mess it was, it was so incredibly memorable, and the post-con sadness was REAL. I'm rocking the con satchel at work daily now, and it works wonderfully. Hopefully I can catch you at the next one in 2025!

I remember seeing you in passing on the first day :) I think I agree with everything you said here. It was fun with an asterisk. I actually got a ticket to see Ishikawa and Kate but passed it up because it was at the same time as the cosplay walk. The concerts alone were worth going for imo.

Fanfest never has the "I beat" t-shirts because fan fest showcases new content, but the shirts represent existing content. You can get those shirts at other game conventions (like PAX or E3) and they give you like around 20 minutes to beat the Extreme trial of whatever the boss is.

Hey Kou, wish I got to meet you while I was there but glad you had a good time! Gotta say the peak was definitely the Primals for me and Soken cameo during the piano concert. I unfortunately was one of the people that got COVID but thankfully I was only feeling It the day after the Orchestra so I wasn't in any danger of spreading it much. Just recovered from it like two weeks ago but it felt only like a cold thankfully. I also hope they switch the location next year, I'm from Florida but the Vegas heat was almost unbearable.

They don't do shirts for trials at Fanfest. They do shirts at other events like PAX because they are existing fights and they would have a challenge wheel to make it harder. On Fanfest, you just got dibs playing a new fight.

I saw people just walk in, but before the keynote they made me go through security again after I used the restroom. I had to wait for an hour to get back in

It really was so hot and I feel extremely lucky that I happened to choose to stay at the Westgate hotel, because day 0 when I went in for preregistration, I found out that there was a skywalk connecting to the hotel, so my own time outside was minimal and I was never stuck in a line outside, since I never had to go in the front doors. Overall, I had so much fun and I loved Fanfest, but it was admittedly a complete mess. My own personal favorite mess was the food lines, in which they failed to consider for day 1 how many people would line up to get food. The result was people kind of trying to use line etiquette, but it wasn't really possible in the circumstances. There was basically one massive mega-line where people just had to wait for super long and then split off whenever they got to the place they actually wanted, which meant the places to the front had much longer lines. They must've realized how much of a mistake that was because when we went back for the second day there were tape lines on the floor to indicate separate queues for each food place. I got a merch ticket for day 2, which basically what happened for that was that during the very first event of the day, you had to book it over to the merch room, be in a huge line as they distributed all the merch tickets, which had a time on them for later. I wasn't even that far back in line and even then I got a ticket for 4pm, which would've been one of the later tickets. My friend/static member who I attended with (he's the one who won the ticket lottery) was the one who was planning on standing in line for merch because he missed it the first day. In the morning when we were sitting together, we saw a line start moving, and I went up to go check what it was and upon realizing it was for merch, I realized I probably did not have time to go back and let him know, so I just waved and went off to wait in line. I think it's probably possible that people bought merch tickets off of other people because the merch tickets basically had nothing but a time on them, so they were tradeable. I ended up giving it to my friend who planned on getting merch in the first place along with my order for a couple of items, so we pretty much just tag-teamed the merch system on the second day. One of the really fun events at fanfest was the fan-organized WoL sticker trade. It was so cool getting to trade stickers and compliment each others WoL and meet artists I am a fan of and look up to. Additionally, aside from the lines, all the areas set up were just super cool. They had areas decorated to look like a bunch of different Endwalker zones with fun activities in them and it was a blast. I think my favorite official activities were the Pandaemonium ones, but maybe that's just the raider in my projecting onto real life lol. The system for turning in stamps was a mess and really upsetting, but the quests were a lot of fun. Every single actor was giving it their all and at some point I remember I couldn't figure out a quest, so I asked someone else if they knew what it was, and then we traded information about a quest that I had already done but that they were struggling on, too. I thought it was so cool that with all the quests there you could have an exchange of information like that. There was also the Radz-at-Han seating area, which was just a very comfortable spot for people to hang out in. Aside from the chairs and stools, there were also four larger sofas in the middle, and those were pretty much the designated nap areas. Any time you wandered over there you'd see people sleeping on the sofas, and I also at one point took an hour long nap on the sofas waiting for the next event. And the CONCERTS. The two Fanfest concerts were so good. During Amanda and Keiko's last song, I started sobbing when Amanda called up her brave little sparks, it was just so emotional. And the second day, with the Primals rock concert, it was just a blast. I thought it was so funny that near the end, everyone was chanting "one more song! one more song!" and Soken came back on stage to say "only... *one* more song?" and immediately everyone started screaming "TWO MORE SONGS!" The two encore songs were A Long Fall (the twinning meme, in which they did in fact force SQ folks to come out and dance wearing color coded shirts) and Rise (the timestop Alexander song). It was just so much fun being there and participating in that.

It was just cool to hang out with you. That's normally the big appeal of cons for me anyways. While it was a hot mess, it was a hot mess we all get to remember together. It's still amazing to see so many people get together to enjoy FFXIV like this. Still funny we ran into each other at the hotel. LOL

It was my first fanfest and yeah the only real highlights were the concerts. That con was not well organized at all. It was nice meeting you though Kou! I was the guy who told you about the limit cut in the new trial.

I saw you during the queues in the morning, but I unfortunately couldnt say hello!. But yes the event was a hot mess, security none existent, queues for everything (but not organized), for ADA people have a really bad time and im really sad. The main event was good HOWEVER the venue was horrible :(. Let's hope next time they address the issues and make better event for everyone.

Wife and I were ready. Con experience taught us to be ready for anything, aka... We had an umbrella for use while walking, refillable bottles, and copious sunscreen. It was Vegas and the hotel we were at provided food so we were good on food for the days. Speaking of bringing a switch, randomly the bag they gave us was the perfect size to hold both my bottle and the switch. For the merch line that was our experience. We were within the first 10 people because after the trailer we left because keynote for new xpac is just the usual stuff, new graphics, etc and since it's the first fanfest we wouldn't get any crazy showings.

Managed to get tickets all the way from Europe and travel over to get into LineCon. Was still in the line outside trying to get in when the opening ceremonies started. Never even got to sniff at the merchandise. Stood in an hour line for a stale hotdog... They really kindof dropped the ball on dealing with so many people; almost as if they didn't expect that a sold out convention would get crowded... I got picked out of line MULTIPLE times by security. Had to show my bottle, my bag, etc... I just have my phone and a camera dude. LVCC Security and SE Staff were also NOT communicating at all. Security just did stuff on their own like merging the merchandise and battle challenge lines and such. I got let in by a staffer with a big yellow SE shirt on to ask someone a question four feet over and an LVCC security person was standing RIGHT BESIDES US when the exchange happened and they immediately jumped down my throat as if they did not just stood there and watched me get permission from the actual convention staff... At least I lucked out on the Gold Ticket and got to get a poster signed by Yoshi-P and Koji Fox.

That’s weird for the mouse issue. I was able to bind buttons to the mouse at the event, and I use the same one they were using.

I got called a furry by those kids twice as they harrassed -anyone- coming out of the convention, including following a group around, can relate.

"Security let anyone in" was something I also heard about the 2018 FanFest. I heard people had their pre-ordered merch given to others in 2018. I heard it was a hot mess essentially. 😏 I was afraid to go to this FanFest based on the complaints surrounding the 2018 one, but I'm glad I did. The only people with a real complaint were the ADA people. Most of the other complaints are petty in comparison or they were partially the responsibility of the attendee (like protecting yourself from illness, pre-ordering merch, or needing a mommy/security to keep you from entering an event you didn't pay for). And yes, if someone entered when not having a ticket then that is an action they took regardless security. They are just as responsible for their actions. If you don't travel or go to big events a lot? My suggestions: 1. Always scope out necessary spots in or near the event (restrooms, foods, etc). I was using the restroom between the main hall and the merch hall because there was never a line. Scope out cheap eats near the center/hotel and a variety of travel options to and from the event before you go. 2. A hotel closer to the event is not better if it's farther away from necessities or if you have a condition that the weather (hot, cold, rainy, smog, etc) can make worse by walking. You may save on transport, but pay more for food, water, or wellness needs. It's a balancing act. As for the covid comic? I have trouble believing this person since they are also trying to sell commissions - what better way to get attention than make a very long post about something even if it didn't happen.

Of course there would be a new trailer announcement. That's pretty much the main reason for Fanfest. They don't do a Fanfest on off years.

100% with you. It was my first, and for all the cons, the pros did pull it through. I enjoyed it altogether. And I did wish we had the main hall where the woodworking event was.

Actually we didn't end up doing the trial because while I was able to get a time slot, the Missus wasn't. The app was just not letting her make a reservation no matter what she tried and I would've felt pretty bad to go without her, no matter what she was saying to me. :( I imagine if our motive for FanFest was to specifically get merchandise, then I think we would've had an absolutely horrible time, but that was quite literally at the bottom of the list for us. Oh! And one little gripe that we had that wasn't mentioned -- the light up Elpis Flowers!! They wanted us to have them working at the concert, but the battery door was screwed in, so we needed a screw driver! Lol. That was so silly. Thankfully for us, we walked to the 2nd floor of the concert hall and saw that a chad WOL brought a bunch of screw drivers so we were able to get them in during the intermission but it was RIDICULOUS that that was necessary at all lol. Regardless -- I agree, we had so much fun -- meeting you, and meeting everyone in person. We wouldn't trade those memories for anything. Probably one of the best weekends we've ever had

i never tried the battle challenge. i was stuck in line to get food for what seemed like an hr but probably wasn't. it was mass chaos to get food on the first day there were no lines at all you had to figure out which line went where and hope you get to where you wanted too.

I felt so much FOMO during Fanfest since I didn't get a true ticket but still had a good time in Vegas despite the heat. Def glad I didn't have to deal with some of the organizational nightmare but also glad people found some silver linings. Wish I could have seen ya lol maybe next time.

Overall I had a fun time! The friends I went with def made the experience for me. I saw you while getting food but didn't want to bother you lol. Maybe next time :) And yea @ 7:30 the bag check was inconsistent. I brought a small backpack that was barely bigger than the fanfest bag. The lady said I couldn't go in with it. My friend and I actually parked the same hotel you were staying at cause we had a friend staying there too. So we used their extra room key for parking. So I walked back to the parking lot to switch bags, then was let into the convention. A bit later in the day I saw some dude with a big backpack, **much** bigger than my small one. Honestly that annoyed me cause I walked out in the raging heat to switch while this dude just went in with his big ass bag. 🤷‍♀ I do hope security is more consistent next time.

as someone who has gone to anime expo since 2006 and only stopped in 2020....while the popular animes get the spotlight...honestly there is so much there its not hard to find what you like unless the anime you like is 1. very old and 2. beyond obscure...like doesn't have a dub level of rare However and seeing how fanfest is...AX is the same just being linecon...during the hot LA weather with way too many people...Artist Alley is really the only thing worth it Real talk i had such FOMO about Fanfest but seeing alot of the horror stories (coughTHATCOMICcough)....i feel better being at home hahaha but glad you had fun :D Did you go to Hell's Kitchen....actual question hahaha

I think EU and JP will have better security...that is if the English are strict about it anyway...but who knows since it's in London, but JP at least is probably going to be strict. I went to the 2nd fanfest in EU and I had a lot of fun too even though I barely knew anyone just for the sole fact that I got to meet Yoshi-P and Koji :D (but all the other events in it were so much fun too like the music/concerts was so good) Also, I assume the Germans are far more strict in security too when we went so there's that. Hopefully people are more considerate when they go to the next cons, like masking up most especially, washing their hands, etc. Glad you had fun! I can tell you personally, Day 2 Merch was if you got the 10am ticket on Day 1 you got priority to buy stuff. Though most stuff was sold out.

every previous fanfest is rough lol, its mainly a good way to chat with people who play the game more then the actual convention.

wasn't a convention but I went to a music festival which is mainly outside and I got sick the next day but it was a combo was hotel A/C directly under me as well and not taking eating well/sleeping.

On Day 1, they almost didnt allow people with metal water bottles walk in until there was such a big crowd around the entrance they relented. On day 2 walked in with friendship bracelets covering up my fanfest bracelet with a full water bottle on day 2, wasn't stopped.

The "I beat" shirts are a whooole thing. They had them at 2014 Fan Fest for sure (Odin, I think?), but I don't know if they've been at the others. They are generally given out to attendees at trade events like E3 (rip), Gamescom, Paris Games Week, etc. for people who win the battle challenges. Apparently they are sometimes given out at events like PAX, which makes it even weirder to me that they are wholly absent from Fan Fest, the convention that is focused solely on FFXIV... I've only gotten three of them (all from E3), but getting them was just...such a colossal pain in the ass. The two that I actually did the fights for (Leviathan and Titania) are obviously under-tuned versions of the content - which sounds great on paper! Except for the part where you will likely be grouped up with people who have little to no experience in XIV (let alone the genre). I spent one entire exhibit hall day attempting to get my Titania shirt, with three separate line queues (two of which took 2-3 hours). By the time I was at the front of the third queue, I knew I would be late catching my train home, so I basically just cried to Reinhart and he took pity on me. That was my entire E3 experience that year, and probably the last one ever, considering!

I think I saw you around once, but never got a chance to say anything. Maybe next time! Also, I can provide some insight as to why we did not get any t shirts this year for the battle event. I talked with a staff member at the airport on my flight back home, and he mentioned the company they got to make the shirts sent them like 3 days before the event started, and well, they had a misprint on them. Instead of giving them away, they were told to completely dispose of them. The staff member I was talking to tried to snag a couple but apparently he wasn't able to.

Knew that was you lol, on the first day my group was right next to you in the line waiting to get into the keynote. Decided not to bug you since I figured you wanted to enjoy the event like anyone else! But yeah, I must say I'm not a fan of Las Vegas convention center at all, last one was held at the Rio and it was much better ran. Hope I never have to go back to Vegas convention center for anything ever again.

Honestly, i kinda feel this probably wasn't the best con to experience as your first con. A lot of things you've pointed out KINDA is what you expect at a con. Id be interested to see how you feel if you had hit up 2 or 3 cons before fan fest (of course, the heat...nothing I can say about that. Feels nice celebrating FFXIV 10 miles from the sun XD)

Despite alI, I had a blast at fanfest, didn't see you there unfortunately, thank god I decided to drive, having a plane cancelled sucks, my best friend had a flight to Mexico city, luckily his was fine. As for the heat, I live in Tucson and travel to phoenix almost on a biweekly basis so it was actually not that bad and on sunday the rain was nice! Would do it again in 2 years!.

I am happy I decided not to bother trying going it just seems like it would have just not lived up to any expectations, you could randomly be left out of missing out on meeting people from the team I wouldn't have even been able to do the trial as I dont own a cell phone what so ever and the heat would have probably literally killed me.

Eh, I've been to quite a few conventions (and concerts) so far, and ngl, most of this just sounds kinda...normal? 😆 Some cons are definitely more well-organized than others, but I've never seen a single one that didn't have its hiccups. That's just the nature of any event that involves a shit ton of people. You get used to it, especially stuff like waiting in lines for everything for hours. It's actually pretty fun with friends, you just get to sit around on the ground and chat with them for ages~ Never experienced lax security though. I've lost so many treasured items over the years from security making me throw them away at the entrance 😢

Another thing that sucked was waiting in line to do the ‘sidequests’. You would wait in line for like 1-2 hours for every side quest and scan a QR code for the digital badge. And once you’ve scanned all the badges, it wasn’t worth it as the staff just stopped checking and gave you a poster/sticker reward. All those hours spent waiting in lines for a poster and sticker. I will say the side quests at least made me go out and take pictures that I normally wouldn’t have taken, but they could have been implemented better. The staff really did not give a shit by day two.

Hi I cosplayed during the glamour walk! I had a really good setting spray but I absolutely was sweating like crazy and I had to go out to my car a lot to get water and Gatorade. On the bright side, they never stopped me with my Gatorade even though they said no outside food or drink, so I saved money and stayed hydrated. Unfortunately I did see a lot of kids at the basketball convention insulting cosplayers.

At least Vegas has dry heat. Come to Florida when it's (feels like) 115 degrees but because of humidity not dry heat. It's like being in hell, you're sopping wet with sweat but it doesn't cool you down at all.

This was my first convention. I don’t have many complaints. My wrist band got jammed up and I had to cut it off after day 1 then just tied it to my bag and got through np. The main take away was how short the ff community is 😂. I could see everything from anywhere most of the time.

I heard the entire thing was a mess if you looked past the surface. Other than a convention in Nevada during the summer sounds like a bad idea I heard the staff were all over the place, people weren't told about things like food/beverages until it was too late and a few other things.

well the folks with disabilitys had an enough ruffer time my guy their chairs where being taken, they had to be in basically danger during the concerts with whee they placed them

Living in Vegas my entire life, I love hearing about others visiting the oven that is my State. 😂

This might sound bad but im kinda glad that most of the problems were because of the venue in Vegas, summer and the summer in Vegas. (who TF plans a convention in the middle of summer in Vegas?) We will have rain in London, maybe a lot of rain. But London has its tube to travel underground. Raincoats will dry up within a hour in the convention hall. Im looking forward for the EU FF.
