I love how literally everyone were almost like forgetting how strong of a player nepo is. Especially in the first rounds of the tournament, backed with unused wc prep he will be almost unstoppable. It is almost only a question of whether he will able to maintain that stability throughout the whole tournament, as he is known for playing the last rounds much worse than the first ones

I doubt the wc prep is that much of an advantage because this prep is usually very targeted at how your oponent is likely to respond to your moves.

Nepo being quick to remind everyone why HE was the one challenging Magnus in 2021. We all saw how that went but the reality is, with a player like Nepo, he is either going to Steamroll or get rolled. There is no in-between.

His average opponent rating was highest showing his aggression Ding's avergae opponent rating was lowest among the candidates being the highest rated player basically he was playing economically to get to the candidates Nepo is still the most likely to win The candidates

@@sak1039 not necessarily, the rating system makes it so that no matter who you play against your true rating would be found if rating = ability. The rating system awards negative points when players like ding lose or draw to 2600 guys. If playing weaker players is very good for gaining rating then why do other players not do this?

Levy the time control is 120 minutes for the first 40 moves and then 60 minutes for the next 20 moves, not 30 minutes. Just a heads up for next recap

Ding-Nepo yours is the first comment criticising "h4", better to exchange knights. Duda-Rapport not clear why Duda played so timidly, is it possible he didn't understand he had a great advantage before queens trade? High level game between Fabiano and Hikaru, few inaccuracies, Fabiano played really a fantastic game picking almost all the best moves after the dubious d5 by Hikaru. Interesting game Rajabov-Firouza expecially the first exchange sacrifice. Rook endings are always teaching us something even when are dead draws!

I mean.. I really think Ding is a very strong player and all, but he was at his peak before the coronavirus thing in 2020. From then he didn't play so much and the rating stayed the same, but his form decreassed.. Anyways it's only the first round, there are a couple more to go and I hope he will prove us all wrong and beat Magnus for the world champion title.

I know a lot of people are behind Hikaru in this tournament, but really I’d be happy with just about anyone winning. I just hope that no one totally runs away with it. Fabi & Nepo would make for great rematches Ding is the World #2 Alireza was basically called out by Magnus as the one he wants to play Rapport is such a unique player that could cause Magnus trouble Hikaru is Hikaru And even Radjabov or Duda would be interesting wildcards for me (I’m not as familiar with them)
