I am a CMP FAN BOY. I high recommend getting involved with a CMP club so you can fully enjoy the CMP. A trip to their stores should be on every summer vacation MUST DO. I have had fabulous experiences with the CMP and M1s. IF you are an American, YOU should own a M1 Garand.

Would be interesting to cover the story of repairing and subsequent long-term storage of M1 rifles after WWII at Springfield Armory.

Proud to be a member. The GCA has done such a great job with these movies. I can name several people that have been brought into the hobby because of them.

What an amazing story. What an amazing rifle. My 2 wishes are to 1, one day own one, and 2, to visit the armory.

Kinda funny I have owned my m1 for two years now I fired it when I first got it a few times. Today I dug it out of the safe and put rounds down range. Been meaning to for a while but finally did. This gun is a great one to shoot. I got it when I was in a gun shop and was just poking around. I saw it grabbed it because I thought it would be awesome to have a rifle that my grandfather’s bayonet belonged on. I wish his bayonet was in as good condition as this rifle.

lol. Same story, no bayonet, but was poking around my local shop, wasn’t even looking to buy anything but it had a very gorgeous looking M-1 sitting there about a week ago. Bought it without thinking. Based on its lot and production number, it’s made between July-November 1944. Serial number placed it some time between late August to early September. Barrel was changed in 1953. It’s a gorgeous rifle with new wood furniture and everything. Can’t wait to try it out

Marty, you are the only man in my lifetime that I have ever been envious of!!! When you asked “ COULD I HOLD IT” ???? I could see concern and hesitation from the man from Springfield!! Yes I was envious!!! My name is Jim, and I work at CMP in Anniston! I hope to see you and meet you someday!!!

Thank you for a very fine video. I enjoyed it very much. Held my first Garand in 1962 at the age of 1. It was my Grand Father's who arrived in Europe July 1944. Over the past 10 years I have been looking to buy a Garand with no real luck. Finally bought my first one. A late July 1953 rifle by serial number and rebuilt by Letterkenney in May 1965. Excellent shooter and it will be going to my Grandson when I pass. I hope he enjoys it as much as I do. Rest in Peace John Garand.

I like the guys working at final assembly wearing neck ties. Pride in appearance and workmanship.

OSHA would advise against neckties in a machine shop today. Too dangerous...; )

My Dad fought in Korea with 101st., Screaming Eagles!!! After leaving Korea he got a job selling hardware. He wore wore a tie and hat everyday of his work life ! Those were the values that built America before feminism, homosexual public schools and homes without fathers destroyed our values and our country!!!

It's amazing, the things that jump out at you, as you watch a video. Take a look at the position of the bolt, at 12:04. Is that a "Garand thumb" waiting to happen, or what? Hahahaha!

Very interesting & informative!!! I got mine from the (D)CMP in 1989. It’s humbling to handle an actual piece of our history. Though I do enjoy my other milsurps…including a pristine M1903, that M1 holds a special place in my heart. BTW….it only cost me $165 including s&h.

I was issued my m1 in 1963 at ft Leonard wood. S/n GM3271492. Can you tell me who made it and when and what happened to it after I turned it in? Also I Remember the Dave Cook sporting goods store in Denver selling what was described as an m1 garand tanker version, shorter barrel and wooden stock, not the folding metal stock. I believe these were new, never issued. I don’t think it was an m1 carbine. Any thoughts?

Where any of John Garand's notes in Franglish? I have witnessed my Grandmere take notes in French while speaking on the phone in English. A not uncommon thing in Little Canada Lowel Mass at one time.
