CLIP DESCRIPTION:
The Narrator (Edward Norton) comes to the stunning realization that he and Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt) are the same person.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
In this darkly comic drama, Edward Norton stars as a depressed young man (named in the credits only as "Narrator") who has become a small cog in the world of big business. He doesn't like his work and gets no sense of reward from it, attempting instead to drown his sorrows by putting together the "perfect" apartment. He can't sleep and feels alienated from the world at large; he's become so desperate to relate to others that he's taken to visiting support groups for patients with terminal diseases so that he'll have people to talk to. One day on a business flight, he discovers Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt), a charming iconoclast who sells soap. Tyler doesn't put much stock in the materialistic world, and he believes that one can learn a great deal through pain, misfortune, and chaos. Tyler cheerfully challenges his new friend to a fight. Our Narrator finds that bare-knuckle brawling makes him feel more alive than he has in years, and soon the two become friends and roommates, meeting informally to fight once a week. As more men join in, the "fight club" becomes an underground sensation, even though it's a closely guarded secret among the participants. (First rule: Don't talk about fight club. Second rule: Don't talk about fight club.) But as our Narrator and Tyler bond through violence, a strange situation becomes more complicated when Tyler becomes involved with Marla (Helena Bonham Carter), whom our Narrator became infatuated with when they were both crashing the support-group circuit. Based on the novel by Chuck Palahniuk, Fight Club was directed by David Fincher, who previously directed Pitt in the thriller Seven.

One of the greatest plot twists out of any movie simply for how nicely it ties in the previous plot points of Fight Club. It fits the theme of the film where it focuses on The Narrator reclaiming his authentic self. The plot of Fight Club reflects what Tyler had previously said in the film which is that "Our great war is a spiritual war." and how The Narrator is not living a truly passionate life because he is brainwashed by the society he lives in to be obsessed with material goods he doesn't need, being submissive to people who have higher authority then him, having a passive and non confrontational personality, having low confidence and compromising his true inner values just to fit in with others as so not be rejected by them which Tyler Durden sees as the opposite of the lifestyle of a developed person who lives life on his own terms. In the movie we see The Narrator more and more adapting the lifestyle of Tyler Durden however like all things they should be a balance and even Tyler's way of living could be negative at it's extreme where he disregards order in favor of chaos and tyranny and ironically becomes the very same authority he seeked to oppose but tricks those involved with him that it's under the idea that all who work for him get to bring down the system and don't live by the rules where as in the reality of the movie with Project Mayhem it's the opposite as when working under Tyler in order to make Project Mayhem come true they start adopting rules and work in conditions which are similar to the system they were supposedly bringing down. In this scene it's less about becoming Tyler Durden and more of The Narrator realizing he was Tyler Durden all along and toward the climax of the film instead of favouring his or Tyler's lifestyle he learns to integrate both which in turn allows him to self actualize and be true to himself and freely pursue the things he values the most. However while some of the things I have mentioned here were mentioned in Fight Club and frequently are mentioned by others who analyse this film there's many more interpretations to be had as the text I wrote here is simply one interpretation based on the knowledge I gathered about the film. All in all Fight Club is a masterpiece and credit to all the people who were involved in it.

One interesting thing about this film is that as they progressed through production, they had Edward Norton starve himself so he looked paler and weaker, while Brad Pitt rigorously worked out and tanned himself so he looks stronger. This represents Tyler’s influence growing in the Narrator’s mind. You can especially see it in this scene-Edward Norton looks like he’s going to pass out any minute.

you have to watch it multiple times for a few reasons: 1. to notice the hints that were dropped about Tyler and Jack 2. for consistency: when was jack jack and when was he durden. 3. Understanding the actual role of the characters: Marla is a pretty detestable character in an anti-hero kind of way. But then you realize how she has been the emotional victim of Durden. There is no way of watching the movie again and not feel for Marla.
