I would bet during the test was about the only time that "walk around" ever happened to most trucks. I was working the warehouse at a paper supply company years ago and they changed hands. The new owners said "you're a driver". Well ok then...makes sense. I was driving forklifts, running the paper cutter, printing press..... I rode with some other drivers, got some practice in and they paid for my test and class B. They never climbed in the cab with you for an on-the- road test. They had a track and cones and gave you a series of things to do. That test is nothing compared to driving downtown, getting into alleys, coming out and finding cars parked around you...the cross country days were much better. You just have to find Zeb's print shop in the middle of nowhere on unmarked roads sometimes. "where the hell? I guess I'll follow this power line and dirt road through these soybean fields to the horizon." That power line has to go somewhere. "Well hullo Zeb" Speaking of tests, I got my motorcycle endorsement without having to take a test. First off, didn't know I needed one til I got a ticket. Nobody ever said anything when I bought it or got tags. I rode up to the SP headquarters to get it one day. It was raining. I'm standing there soaking wet holding my helmet and the lady says "we don't do motorcycle tests when it's raining, they have to go outside and watch you". She looks at my helmet..."Did you ride up here in this rain? (It was pouring really dark and hard before I got there.) Yes ma'am. "Well I guess you know how then, here ya go."

you got it - ejection seats involve rockets and explosives, so you wouldn’t want it going off when you don’t want it to, such as during service and getting in and out of the jet. so when you get in the jet you “arm” the seat and that makes it ready to be activated.

@@RealmCenter40 I didn't catch that association, myself smh:). I read a great WWII novel, 3 Corvettes, along with The Cruel Sea, by Nicholas Monsarrat, years back. Based on the author's descriptions , those were not those most comfortable boats to be on in rough seas.

Minor rant, excuse me I’ve had a few drinks. I appreciate our servicemen deeply. I had 3 great uncles in B-17s that I’ve heard were amazing men I never got to meet, 2 MIA, 1 KIA on my fathers side and a great uncle marine on my moms side (my grandmothers only brother) KIA in Iwo Jima.
