The actual story he's telling is when he was young he was hired to wash dishes for this local restaurant. That night, after cleaning the entire place to open for the season they discovered some of the pans were moldy, so the owner told him to go leave them in the ocean just off shore and tie them to a stake so he can find them tomorrow on his way into work. Well, if course, what neither of them considered was that he left them at low tide ... and now they're under 20 plus feet of water since the tide has risen. In the end they only recovered a couple of the 20 or so pans and the cook made him pay for new ones out of his check - then fired him.

The GAU-8 was not mounted on the A-10 contrary to popular belief, actually the A-10 was mounted on the GAU-8.

Anybody who has flown a Cessna has emulated fighter pilots. We all had dreams as kids. We rolled into steep climbing turns and made loud machinegun sounds at jets thousands of feet above. What else is there to do with all that free space?

Fighter pilots are my favorite. They have just the best responses in any given situation. "I didn't do anything wrong, I followed procedure." "Trust me us having this conversation means you did something wrong. Also you locked your new pilot in the briefing room and then armed the alarm system. She wasn't happy about meeting Yogi."

Some acronyms I researched for us ignorant civs: - AB Takeoff: when 2 aircraft takeoff nearly simultaneously. - TDY: Temporary Duty Assignment (presumably, to other countries). - O6: Colonel (presumably, squadron commander?) Could not find what EQ means...

AB takeoff = afterburner takeoff. O-6 is a Colonel (or Captain in the Navy) usually a group or wing commander. EQ is checkride grade (above average basically)

I had the privilege of going to a Roll Call with 410 "Cougars", the RCAF Hornet OTU. Best time I ever had....and I'm no where near being a fighter pilot. I'm normally quite introverted around people, but I felt at home at th Roll Call. Weird for being a civ? I did have a handful of friends there though....and I had built a model for the squadron...and beer. Not scared at all. 😂

Hey Mover, had a good laugh in these dark rimes. Something I wanted to tell, the upgraded MiG-21s like the bison variant actually have good visibility. Their canopies aren't cluttered with all the metal frame the earlier variants had.
