Somehow I think that threat of legal action they just made against you, perhaps, and the other major voices is going to end Filmora. They made it right and the took away every last bit of good will those actions engendered. I'm looking for a good cheap video editing solution but am I going to choose Filmora now? The magic 8 ball thinks not. Related to this, I have a lifetime license to my trading software that I've had for about 7 years. I never thought about that until now. I'm going to go out and read the fine print in that agreement and make sure I have a solid situation with my business critical software. Thanks for handling this in such a professional away. I'm not sure I would have been so calm in my comments.

I wonder if my lifetime License bought just before they called it filmora now also would apply.... I bought it from them (iSkysoft) in end of 2016 just as a lifetime license. After getting like one or two minor updates their " video editor" chaged it's name in 2017 and they wanted to charge me for an Filmora license...... since then i am a bit unhappy and didn't enter the Filmora bandwagon. So this is just to say they did, or at least tried it a second time.!!!! But this time due to their customer base beeing wider and mainly your efforts they didn't win! Sorry for my english..... *edit* I might got the year mixed... maybe it was 2015-2016

The part I find the most hilarious about this entire situation is that Wondershare really thought they could get away with screwing over lifetime license holders without severe consequences, after what happened literally only a few months ago with Clip Studio Paint. It's almost like a lot of people on the internet have seen this song and dance before, have gotten really good at spotting it, and are *extremely sick of it.*
@catalystgreenhorn9184

The reason they felt like they could get away with such a thing is because other companies have got away with something similar. For me personally, it was Z-brush and Clip Studio.

Yeah, Clip Studio ticked me off doing the same stupid sort of thing. Bought it years ago because it was a one time purchase of a good product with updates that didn't require a monthly subscription like Photoshop. Then they go and change their policy.

To be honest this was something that could be seen coming. I would also make a move if my lifetime purchase of a software is suddenly changed in terms. This is incredibly non-clever for a company to do. They have changed their plans, meaning they don't have to deal with more lifetime cases, which understandably are a burden. But it was a burden they knew from the beginning, they used that money from the lifetime licenses to get going and now these lifetime license holders obviously do not contribute (economically, because if someone is making content and talking about Filmora is helping spreading it), but probably they don't make a big bunch of their user base, and they will never grow larger, so come on.

*Be careful:* I opened an old trial copy of Filmora 10 today and to my surprise it offered me a "FREE UPGRADE" to Filmora 12. But once it downloaded and installed the upgrade, it wouldn't let me export anything unless I paid for a license! Older versions would at least let you export a video with a watermark on it so you could evaluate it. Now in Filmora 12 you can't export anything without a license.

Guys, let's not forget Daniel. He placed a target on his back to fight for us, and we rallied behind him and won. Now, it's our time to fight for him. They want to make him an example to other influencers of what happens when you fight back. If Filmora gets their way, this will set the tone for other companies who wish to "trick" their customers and other influencers will look at this case and decide not to use their platform to fight back. Continue to apply pressure and see this through so that all is right for everyone, not just ourselves.

As someone who has never heard of Daniel before of this series of events or associated with filmora in any way, where I found the first part in my recommend, I must say a few off the top things 1. Throughout this whole situation Daniel seemed to show the most respect for filmora and anyone involved which we need more people like that in the world 2. He addressed the issue in full in a calm and respectful way not pointing fingers, not lashing out of filmora etc 3. Filmora seems like they in the situation were trying to play with the wording of stuff to cut lifetime licenses out of the equation to make more money which isn't the worst business if you don't care about the communities trust and respect which clearly they do In the end everyone played their hand while filmora were trying to justify using a second deck of cards to cheat with and eventually gave in

Same here! Although I have to say: I’m thinking of a more global concept here > should customers need to go through so much time/effort, accumulated voices, painful processes, investigation, and everything that was needed in this case in order for a big company to react ethically? Its sad that’s our world; the people with the most money in the planet, changing their old contract’s wording behind scenes, lying, to get EVEN MORE money > because we have to think now, how many companies get away with this? those that did not were as “unlucky” (99% or more, of the unethical ones) as Wondershare > would love the global law to evolve into something that removes this “noise need” from customers backs / responsibility and places the burden of being simply HUMAN (ethic) on the big companies. (2) Daniel even says (im paraphrasing) “thanks for giving what customers were asking for” .. NO, it was not an ask, that’s were these big companies conceptually win or softens the blow, and derail, cause they think “ok client, you are asking for something, you need me, here you go” NO. First of all, why thank someone for something I should already have and you technically already gave to me? 2nd add on top how you’ve treated me during the way to finally have you giving me what I DESERVE, not asked, DESERVE. Wow, mega topic, global / many companies potential impact, even at capitalism grand topic scale.

@@Daniel_Batal but Wondershare's products will never be one of them. Their corrupt practices go farther, as well. They have a data recovery tool that they advertise as being able to recover data off of a liquid damaged phone. It's $100, and to use it you must connect the liquid damaged device to your PC via cable. That same action starts to corrode any internals in contact with the the liquid, causing damage and potentially make it harder or impossible to recover the data. It's a game of pay $100 and see if you can't fry your phone.

Not a Filmora user but as a musician I have a bunch of lifetime licenses, some of which are for software I don't even really use lately so I've been following this saga intently. Glad the community stepped up, it would have set a bad precedent to pull the rug on lifetime licenses. The canary in the coal mine etc, this is about more than just Filmora. Thanks for calling them out and being civil and cool headed about it all. Chalk this up as a W (with an asterisk heh)

In the sea of fakes, you are authentic and genuinely worthy of being called an Influencer. You stood up for what was right and didn't give in to the traps of the company & made them correct their conduct. Daniel, I am absolutely ecstatic over the recent developments. I am emotionally, (not physically, I'm old), jumping up and down. The power of the "little guy" when we come together en mass is truly a wonderful sight to behold. If more people realized just how much power they wield when we come together I think major corporations would get away with a lot less Chicanery. Thank you for your initial video that started it all. Thank you for not taking the bribe Wondershare offered you to return to being a paid endorsee of the product. Thank you for this video and thank you for your hundreds, if not thousands of fantastic video tutorials. I used to be a batalion member but the recent economy forced me to cut back a bit. So forgive me for that. I am still an avid watcher and promoter (to my editing friends) of your channel. I am going to include a one-time "thanks" donation because no one deserves it more than you, Thank you so much for all you do. I hope I get to meet you in person someday. P.S. The new version 12 does look pretty cool because they finally included something I've been asking for since version 8. Custom, editable mask points. Can't wait to try it.

The company tried to gaslight its customers. It wanted to change the terms of contracts with these customers unilaterally, and it tried to force this on customers by using misleading language that didn’t appear in the original agreement. The only thing that forced Filmora to honor its agreements and keep its promises was the social backlash which could have affected sales. It’s not doing anyone any favors. It’s doing what it required to do and that it unethically tried to avoid doing. That the company included the threat indicates that the company is still run by highly unethical people.
