Al Murray who is very middle class uses his stage character, the pub landlord, to punch down on the working class.

Al Murray is mocking an attitude , not a social class .
@actthenpens
@actthenpens 5 жыл бұрын
@@vicredshaw1155 i disagree, he mischaracterises an opinion that he can then ridicule. I've been to Thanet where he created the faux party to mock UKIP. All he did was present a regressive socialist opinion of what UKIP actually represented. It was racist caricature of whites, and not working class because this doesn't extend to poor black people and anyway the people of Thanet aren't poor their easily middle class.

9:24 The "it's a joke" is no longer a defense, just ask Mark Meechan and his fascist pug. It is not an "exaggeration" when you've been arrested, prosecuted and convicted. Well done bringing that up Konstantin! At this point it is mainstream. This guy needs to a visit from the thought police, then he wouldn't be so casual about what is happening. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hZ6dd9pzrr6yg4U.html Also guys, you should get Vee on, he has such a lovely voice, everyone should enjoy!

Between the Scylla of "Woke" and the Charybdis of "Red Pill", two brave Odysseuses (Odyssei?), Kisin and Foster, model the kind of intellectual honesty, epistemological humility, and existential bravery that's all too rare these days. TRIGGERnometry is indeed a galley worth rowing.

Well, well... When I was boy at grammar school in the 1960s, the expression "between the Scylla of XXX and the Charybdis of YYY" was a well-worn and commonly used argumentative tool, i.e., it was NOT confined to classical literature scholars. Tempora mutantur, nos et mutamur in illis, eh?

There's some truth to the notion that a lot of the culture war stuff is amplified to a level that most ordinary people aren't really paying attention to (even if in some cases perhaps they should), and if you just get off the Internet for a bit the world seems generally less angry and divided, but to suggest that the whole thing is overblown is strange when one of the country's major newspapers is trashing you for telling jokes that aren't woke enough. I'd be interested to see what Fin thinks about this in a year, or even six months. He strikes me as someone at the very start of waking up to this stuff. I can say from experience, that it's been about five years for me now, and I still have basically no idea where I stand with a tremendous amount things I was once fairly sure about.

I would agree with Fin in that wider society has no care or knowledge of the culture war, fought by the extremes on the internet, but that doesn't mean to say this fight doesn't influence society progressively, which I think is Constantine's point.

Sounds a bit like “don’t worry this dog never bites”. It’s a very bizarre situation, you have Frankie Boyle on the BBC even though he has said some really extreme things. I think saying orange man bad gets you a few virtue points to spend.

How can he claim there is not culture war after he starts describing it. he talks about how Hannah Gatsby gets taken up of netflixs and then her message gets disseminated to a wider audience how then disseminate, which then becomes the socials norm other find acceptable. What does he think he a culture is? The people talking about it only are the ones who are aware of whats happening but culture will affect the people in the middle.

"Rrraaghh! Free Speech!"... dude, it's not a fringe opinion. Free speech was and is supposed to be almost universal. And if you're not part of the main group then you normally have some very dodgy opinions. Free speech is the corner stone of Western culture. The fact that you see it as a fringe argument is what is horrifying most of us.
