I would say that FFVI is a strictly ensemble cast, i.e. Terra is probably the most *important* character, but I wouldn't say she's central. Although if you had to pick one main character/protagonist, I think you could make the strongest case for Terra or Celes.

By games even even at lv 99 Umaro is PURE Crap F tier and I'd still would rate Cyan only 1 tier ABOVE Umaro at D tier/still not worth using. Gau is still A or S tier even if you don't farm rages he's still useful.
