The problem is that any song with obscure lyrics and published later than 1960 is presumed to be about drugs because that's all that those rock stars think about. With this song, Denver used the word "high" so stupid people thought, "OMG! He must have been talking about drugs." They never put the word in context and realized that he was referring to an emotional high, not a chemical high.

Funny. Woody Guthrie was my first thought but the dates obviously were wrong and I couldn’t think of a song that would fit. Keyed on Rocky Mountain High and was trying to remember the dude from the Eagles who wrote it (was thinking of Rocky Mountain Way-I’m born in 1979) and sorted out the mistake just in time to get John Denver. Plus, it was a great double choice in case Country Roads happened to somehow be West Virginia’s and I missed a drug reference. I’m giving myself the win. Also, Bob Denver would have been amazing.

Interesting that Jay was willing to risk the tie; going by their buzz rates on the box score they would've been pretty evenly matched. Maybe he was just counting on Kirsten being too young to know 70s songwriters.

@@mook9708 If FJ ends in a tie, they have a single buzz-in tiebreaker clue; they don't do co-champions anymore. Before that rule change (about ten years ago) a $0 bet was absolutely the right move in this situation, but now it's a pretty risky one.
@chrisferrante1976
@chrisferrante1976 2 жыл бұрын
This is unquestionably a bad bet. If he bets $1 to $3599 (making sure he stays ahead of the contestant in third) he loses only if he misses it and the second place contestant gets it right. By betting $0, he loses if the second place contestant gets it right and then beats him in the tiebreaker, a more probable scenario
@ce7.0
@ce7.0 2 жыл бұрын
@@chrisferrante1976 He must have either thought that Kirsten definitely wouldn't know 70s songwriters, or he thought he had the edge on her with the buzzer if it came to that. Jay's buzz-in success rate drastically improved from SJ (31%) to DJ (85%). He may have perceived that as enough of an advantage to make it worth taking the risk on the tiebreaker. Probably the wrong call, since their overall buzz rates for the full game were actually almost identical (with Kirsten actually having a slight edge), and tiebreaker clues are usually pretty easy, but i can see how it made sense to him.

I love, love, love the chemistry between a long-returning champion and the host, I love to have someone to root for. This is just in and out, change champion all the time... I feel so bad for Amy, because she completely owned it. Obviously she should have knows Bangladesh (one of the only FJs through her run I could answer......). I look forward to the next +7 days champion. I hope it's someone charismatic. This guy is out on Monday. Used to, they'd both win the money and come back for the next show. But there's been two times where the contestant's tied and a tie-breaker question was asked, which I think are completely absurd and 100% unnecessary. So had she not missed that extremely simple final, because of him betting ZERO, there's no guarantee he would've won. Unless they've reverted back to letting contestants tie and both win the money - betting nothing was a horrible choice on his part.
