We have had this roof up for 2 years. This doubled our solar harvest. Pigs got bedding in preparation for piglets!!

What a fantastic addition to your power generation capability. Sometimes we are pleasantly surprised when some thing works better than we anticipated. Love to see the pigs.😊

How about an update in your next video release and several later on. The energy harvested from the barn roof is a bonus since the panels were a cost savings over installing a steel roof. It is time to build several animal shelters with solar panel roofs.

What everybody that's telling them to change the angle is missing is, the panels ARE the roof, they're not mounted TO a deck, the panels are the top and bottom of the roof surface. The white you see as they wire the panels together is the underside OF the panel...

I would think that your son and the summer time would be a lot more than in the wintertime. With the angle they have, you could put a grid of sea channel up there. We have ours on sea channel and it set up so it catches the best. Amount of sunlight in the winter too My son invented a row of brushes on a piece of sea channel. That works on pulleys and a hand winch and goes up-and-down. The solar panels to get the snow off in the winter time works great

If you really really wanted to you could change the roofs angle, correct. Might be worth it. Guess the added height in the back could be utilized as storage

to optimize the solar panel to sun angle, get some angle iron or pipe structure on the high end and a just them up....!

So can your batteries take all the power your panels can generate? Everest your so lucky to have a father that share with all his skills. It will allow you to safe so much money not having to hire someone. With a broad skill set you can easily travel and live in different places because you will be able to get a job. My father taught me a lot and anywhere I went I could get a job in a day or two. And if you learn from your mother so you will be able to feed yourself quality food. College is ok but the cost is extreme these days. I know plumbers and electricians that 200000 to 300000 dollars a year, which is more than a few people I know with college degrees that make half as much.

Our Battery bank is a bit small still (around 16KWHr) so they fill up fairly quick. I monitor the level and run our well pump and things like that (large power draw) during that time to use the excess. We are hoping to upgrade our battery this summer to 50KWHr but they are pricey so we will have to see.

Mark, Is there a chance you can raise the panels up to have a better angle? 2-3 inches could make a big difference. Especially in the dead of winter.
@MountainMapleRanch4 ай бұрын
no, the panels are the roof of this structure (which was the point) so they are set. They are at a 4/12 pitch, so around 18 deg. At the time, the panels cost around $1500 compared to a steel roof (steel, OSB, underlayment, etc) at around $2500 and we got “bonus” power. It was never intended as an “ideal” panel install, but rather a roof with the bonus power and at a cost savings. This is a link to a really early video where we started building it and explain the idea. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/r5iajdOQ07SsmY0.html

Let's see 12 volt DC battery shorted out will destroy a metal wrench in a second but solar panel wiring running at 300 plus voltdc is a non hazard?

That’s to bad you can’t get the proper angle on your Solar panels to get the full potential out of them? Why does your lower Solar array only produce 2,000 if it is rated for 4800? I would think that for the money you have spent on all the Solar panels you would have them properly positioned for each Season

Everest needs a hair cut you could use a wind turbine
