I think Chauncey telling Stede: "you defile beautiful things" really made him scared to start a life with the man he loves

I love that the plant they stole in the pilot (and were told to take care of!) has flourished. I love that the crew backs Stede up, including when he's patronizing Chauncey just after he's pardoned. I love that the prospect of folding stuff and serving in the Navy alongside Stede strikes Ed about the way that doing laundry and taxes alongside Evelyn strikes Waymond in Everything Everywhere All at Once. I don't love that Stede's self-loathing makes him feel like he doesn't deserve Ed's help, and makes what Chauncey says to him out in the woods ring true. And I don't love that Ed's self-loathing makes him think it's likelier that Stede left him in the most painful way possible, rather than that something has *happened* to this guy who's narrowly escaped three attempts to kill him in the very short time since they met. You can fit so much trauma and insecurity in these guys!

when i first watched this episode and saw stede and ed sitting by the sea i jokingly said to myself "this would be the perfect place for a kiss" i couldn't believe it when it actually happened! seeing your reaction was like watching myself back then haha. love your videos and can't wait to see the rest of your reactions! also, please check out #RenewAsACrew's petition to renew the show if you haven't already! we're getting close to 50k signatures :D

I have to say, your reaction to the kiss reminded me of the waves this show made when it came out, how we all collectively reacted just as you did... with bewilderment, sheer surprise at the fact that YES, for once, we could have that, openly queer middle-aged men... i love the fact that yours was recorded and published here, because it shows something i think sociologists and historians will keep studying in the coming years... how important and life-changing representation can be ♥

I love how much you love this show! The way that scene was the perfect time for a kiss and yet none of us expected it to happen then. It's bo wonder this show means so much to so nany people. Can't wait to see what you thought of the finale!

Stede is the biggest diva 😂 i love him ❤ this is one of rhe the few shows where theres no badly written characters imo. Lucius is forever my fave though

Yayyyyyy I’m so happy to have a new reaction to that episode :)) going into this series two years ago, I didn’t expect any explicit confirmation of Ed and Stede’s relationship so this entire show let alone the kiss absolutely blew me away!! Cant wait for the next episode :)

I remember I screamed just like Stede when I saw beardless Ed the first time. The beard was just such an integral part of his look that I was shook 😅 I always love a reaction where people weren't spoiled about the kiss, it brings me back to when I first saw it way back when, when none of us knew it was going to happen 😅 I screamed so much during this episode and ran over to tell my brother they'd actually kissed 😅 To this day I always tear up when I hear Perfect day, I just remember sad Ed on the dock and want to cry 😭 Also, if you listen throughout the season, the music that plays during their kiss plays during all of their significant moments, even back in ep 4 💖 I was very angry at Stede for what he did, but after a few days of cooling off I did realize he'd just gone through a very traumatic situation. Can't wait to see your reaction to next episode 💜🏳️‍🌈🏴‍☠️

@@ChachiSays I too loved the beard! But I get that Ed had been trying to move on from that part of his life for a while-- the Navy just kind of hastened it. (Also from a practical standpoint, Taika has talked about how the beard kept threatening to come loose if he moved the lower half of his face. I imagine the kiss was much logistically easier once there was a story-based reason to remove it.

Yes, the way he left his family really bothered me too, and he kind of repeats that with Ed. (Although Ed at one point did that to him this season too, when he went off with the bozo from his past.)
