Ed is cleaned up and it should be a huge Red Flag to the crew. (Hence part of the name of the episode.) But of course, we saw that the crew was not aware what was happening behind the scenes cause Ed was isolated and Izzy was the go-to person again (Izzy constantly lied and was go to before Ed and Stede met in the first season with the original BB crew) So they don't see or know what Izzy said to Stede, made him take up the Kraken mantle again at the end of last season by threatening him and then rewarding it with a soft caress to his face that Ed shakes off. There is a theme of people touching and evading Ed's personal space. But it's a red flag because that is a sign that someone is sui**dal. And that's what Ed is doing this entire episode. First, going to Izzy who told him to basically take up the BB role or d*e. And he's basically saying, you told me to be BB, I don't want to anymore so you take care of it. When that doesn't work, Ed escalates. He is trying to get to the crew to you know what him. This is such a detailed and accurate portrayal of someone having a mental breakdown and sui**dal tendencies. It's heartbreaking to watch and harder cause only the audience and Izzy really know what's going on. The rest of the crew doesn't, they think he's getting better when he's really gotten worse. And the crew saw how Ed was before, so they are just hoping that Ed gets better. That's why they don't mutiny until he pushes them at the end. And Ed knows that, which is why he keeps pushing.

Zheng Yi Sao (Susan) is a real pirate queen. The show brought her on but of course only the very loose rules, she technically wasn't born for another 50 years. But she was such a successful pirate, she made a deal with China and ended up retiring from piracy.

I love how delighted you were to see Lucius back! The fandom already knew that Nathan had been in AoNZ for filming so we knew we'd see Lucius again, but god, the wait was so difficult until then. I love how happy Pete was to see him. Can't wait to see your reaction to the next episode!

Archie is such a himbo (and I think as someone new onboard she gives us a sense of what the Revenge looks like to people who never sailed with Stede-- she strikes me as less alarmed and appalled by Ed than anyone else does). I think the crew held off on mutiny for so long because they really like Ed and want him to get better, and they've been trying to wait and cope in the hope that he will. Ed pushing the Stede doll out the window (reenacting his abandonment) and then pushing the bride doll he's redesigned to look like himself out, too? Yeah, he'd made a decision about how that day was going to end for him, and it makes my heart ache. There is so much I love about this episode. The music choices are inspired, Taika is acting his face off, Joel Fry's nervous energy in this episode is mesmerizing, all the Auntie and Buttons interactions give me life, that whole conversation between Lucius and Stede where Stede's like "Yep, I messed up, you don't have to make the same mistakes I made" really needed to happen, the scene of Red Flag fleet members pulling ships overland in what's probably supposed to be Panama long before the canal is just gobsmacking. And also it's hard to watch s2e2, because people I love have been where Ed is.
