Hello everyone~ I was both shocked and extremely touched by there response to my last video. Thank you so much to all of you who waited, watched, and commented! This took longer to finish up than I expected, so it went up for patrons last Sunday while I polished it up a bit more before making it live today. I hope you enjoy it, and worn photos can be found here: www.patreon.com/posts/red-and-black-107185614?Link& 💕

I just wanted to comment on what you said at the end of the video. You may be right that not all people receive so much kindness. But they should. Each and every person deserves that kind of kindness. That includes you! I hope that with time you will come to accept that you are worthy of this kindness. Let it sink in and help you change how you see yourself! Sending hugs. Glad Ur back and absolutely NO pressure to create content. You first us second! Hugs!

Thank you for your honesty, your inspiration, your joy for sparkly things (because I love them too) and your courage to do something that to me seems so complicated… But you figure it out and you share it with us and I think it’s amazing!…so thank you, thank you, thank you. The biggest wins with depression and anxiety are being able to do the "normal" things again. I'm so proud of you for jumping back in. It can be so hard to feel out of practice and just not good at the things you used to do. Getting through a whole sewing project and making videos about it is such a huge step. We missed you and we're so glad to have you back. 🥰

Hey Angela You were my first costuber I got introduced to via the KZfaq algorithm some 7 years ago (I believe). Your content gave me the confidence to sew my first dress ever. It was my graduation dress for a school I attended and I had one week to complete it - I'm still mostly proud of it and I'm now in an apprenticeship to become a seamstress! 🎉 You taught me so many techniques and you also let me down the historical costuming and dress rabbithole - which led me to dress late victorian everyday. Thank you for your inpact in my life! ❤ And I share some of your mental health struggles aswell - so I feel very connected to you - and let me tell you, I missed you so much! I was checking on your youtube site, blog and in general scouring the internet for news about you ever since your last video every couple months 😊. So glad your back! PS: No need to respond! Maybe consider giving this comment a heart if it brought a little happy smile to you, if that's too much aswell that is fine aswell 😊

Ah, love the chaotic energy of the petticoat deliberations😅 That project was quite the undertaking, after such a long break. I'm really, really impressed you pulled that through in such a short time. And please don't worry about answering comments. I think the people who take the time and have the necessary empathy to write them (maybe often based on personal experience), understand that answering all of them would cost you an enormous amount of emotional energy, you just don't have at the moment. And making you uncomfortable by putting pressure on you is the last thing any of us would want. You just do your thing and 'find your groove' again, as we liked to say in my misspent youth 🙂

Personally, the hints you had dropped in previous videos, i have been thinking of you a lot over the last almost 2 years. But seeing your smile again was so reassuring. But always remember this. You, not just because of your channel and influence, but YOU matter to this world. We are all blessed to be a part of your life and will be forever grateful you share your talents with us. But always remember, Angela Clayton the person, matters. Keep going!!! We are all here cheering you on and supporting you.

Here I am fighting off depression and executive dysfunction just so I can make a small curtain for my door lmao. This turned out so amazing! I totally get what you mean. I've a knitting project bag cut out and even quilted for months now, made the straps too. But have I actually sewn all the pieces together yet? Costumes feel real because you can imagine the character living in them is so wonderfully explained. Thank you for happening to be here to hang out with me on a rough night. I've now fed myself, drank some water, and having given up on trying to work, kitty came to cuddle with me. We get through another day. And I wish I'd gotten that kind of horse hair braid last skirt I hemmed. Oh well. At least it was only 1 1/2" wide. Good reminder.

I will never not watch one of your videos. I learn so much from them and I am always in love with the finished product. I used to be a terrified sewist (like, I would literally call my mom and make her come sit with me) and as much as she would tell me perfection is not required, I couldn't understand that. Then seeing you point out your mistakes, talk about what you would do differently if you made it again, and seeing how beautiful the outcome is made me more confident in my sewing. It made me able to unpack my sewing machine again after my mom passed away and try again. I don't make masterpieces, but I have made a few serviceable and quite pretty pieces.

loved this! you might think the dress is clunky, but honestly, given how little time you had and the time away from sewing, i think you did a fantastic job with it. it definitely screams "dragon mum" in my opinion. as someone with raging anxiety and depression, I appreciate how difficult some things can be (like daily living). but I really respect you, and your drive to not let it totally rule your life. highs and lows will always happen, but the fact that you're strong enough to get back out there and continue is something to be proud of. I saw a comment on Sewstine’s last video saying how you had uploaded this week and got so excited! (I’ve been catching up on costumers in general lately, and it was nice to see her mention using the presser-foot scrunch method for gathering fabric and attributing it to you.) This dress feels like such a triumphant return. I always felt like you worked so hard on everything you made and did so much extra/went above and beyond what would be needed to just have it finished. You make the insides of your garments pretty - when I don’t think anyone who follows makers would blame you for focusing on the stuff that people will see when it’s worn. And you add all this trim/lace/sequins that really elevate the look of your dresses beyond simple functionality. I know you said that you prefer believability in garments and felt like this was more of a costume piece, but every aspect you criticized for contributing to that is a part of what I think makes your style unique and distinct from other costubers. I glad that you ended up being happy with the finished product, because you absolutely deserve to be. It looks beautiful!

I just wanted to let you know that even during the depression and mental health fog where time isn't real, you and your videos helped me. They taught me things about sewing and fashions through the years sure. But they also kept me company during hospital stays, bad health days stuck in bed, and my own mental health struggles. As someone who grew up sewing alongside a perfectionist mother and sister, I simply adore your "find a way and get it done" attitude. It took a long time for my mom to accept that me sewing that way was ok too. Making and learing from mistakes are the most important part of skill building, not being perfect. We need more realistic folks showing that it is ok and fun to learn along the way. Thank you Angela for being willing to put yourself out there like that. It is truly appreciated.

I read your blog style posts in the link provided. Wow, I am so glad I read them because it helped me. It sounds sort of like my life. I have suffered off & on depression most of my life. Time is flying by. It's been like a blur the last few years. I lost my mom, then my sister, my aunt, 2 of my senior dogs, & a few friends. I haven't sewn since last December. In fact, I have a pattern on material that needs to be finished getting cutting out. If you go into my sewing room, it looks like some sci fi movie where people just leave their house & everything is left just as it is. I have gained so much weight & don't feel like doing anything at all. I get migraine headaches all the time. I don't take any kind of medication because I am relying on my faith. Everyone is different & has to do what is right for them. I also get seasonal depression in the summer, not winter. I love cold weather & it's mostly hot in southern Texas, 8 to 9 months out of the year. I know when the cooler weather comes back, I will once again feel better. I also am learning so much in this season. I am learning to live to please me instead of everyone else. I almost killed myself living for others. Now if I want to make a video, I just do it for me. I don't even care if anyone watches. I just do what I want. I live how I want & I don't care anymore what people think. I was raised by a mom who was always so put together. My stepdad was a military man & put too much pressure on us all. We each grow to find our own way. I pray you find your happy space in life again. Your dogs are so cute. Posie is such little darling. I love dogs. I say all this not so much as to bring attention to myself but to let you know that a lot of us are going through the same type of things & we understand. Ive learned in life not to beat myself up. I am doing the best that I can. PS: Been following you for years. Have often said prayers for you. Much love & tender care.

About five or six years ago I found your videos. They inspired me to get back into sewing. Now I’m preparing costumes to wear to Fan Expo in Colorado and the Renaissance festival. Your videos that I look forward to the most and get the most inspiration from. Thank you for creating an environment of inspiration.

This turned out incredible. Also, almost cried at the end there. Depression sucks, the feeling of unworthiness sucks, and it feels SO good when you can finally make something again after it just wouldn't let you for ages.

Sending you a big hug. I'm proud of you for making something, and for recognizing how amazing it is that you did. Creativity isn't always an easy journey, but doing something - even when it's less than your personal best work or what you imagined - is worthwhile. I'm grateful you chose to share your process and make a video of what you made - it looks beautiful and is absolutely inspiring for those of us who are still developing these skills. (I definitely need to remember to put horsehair braid in my Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure cosplay to help shape the hem and front opening, so I totally learned something from your process). -Just a member of the community you've built, feeding you back some of the energy you've already put out into the world.

Love you so much Angela! Take as much time as you need, we'll be here whenever you decide to come back. Your health is the most important thing. And the dress is lovely as always! That overlay on the underdress is stunning, the effect almost looks like velvet from a distance. I struggle with a lot of mental health struggles and it's a silly thing but this quote from Katrina in animal crossing always makes me feel a little bit better: "Remember that bad times are just times that are bad." It helps me put in perspective that even when things feel the worst, that time will continue and there will be good days again too. ♥️

I'm so glad you are sewing again! I have loved your channel for years, and have missed your lovely videos lately. But mostly I'm glad you are ok. Thank you so much for sharing this project with the Internet! I hope sewing is bringing you joy. Your last video inspired me to make a project for an event last weekend, even though I was pressed for time and hadn't touched my sewing machine in a month. You bring so much light and inspiration to the world and I'm so glad you are here

It turned out so well! I am so happy that you did this project. As someone who has depression I understand how incredibly hard it is to even do everyday tasks, let alone a detailed dress design and construction. Great job, and I can't wait to see what else you create.

The finished dress looks so badass and reminds me of renaissance portraits, but make it dragons. It takes me back to your old cosplay days before you went full historical, and let me tell you, you still rock the hell out of those contacts and big skirts ❤

You deserve every bit of kindness! The dress turned out gorgeous (if you dont believe me, my boyfriend who does not like sewing videos was amazed at the beautiful design!). That you designed and made it, with two whole videos on top of it, is amazing and you are 100% right to be proud! You are an inspiration. Depression sucks and is so debilitating, and you made this! I hope you get to ride this high for a little bit and feel loved and appreciated. Because you are❤

The outfit you made was dragonic in the one of the greatest ways possible! I'm always astounded by the details you put into these ensembles, whether that's something more historically inspired like the Christmas dress or has more fantastical elements like the dragon gown. It IS good to be proud of something you made and to the point at the end, I agree. Everyone is inherently owed human decency and how we act moving forward can change how people respect us.

Angela, I found your channel around the time you posted the videos of a Christmas dress in white and gold with red accessories - according to KZfaq about 8 years ago. You and your marvellous creations sparked my interest for costuming and actually sewing at large. I still come back and watch your vlogs when I have hand sewing to do or am in need of sparkly inspiration. I relate so much to what you're sharing of your mental health, and it's comforting to know I'm not alone in struggling with creativity. I just started picking up my sewing again after a year of burnout, and I'm thrilled to see you at it too. I am so proud of both of us! You bring joy to so many people's lives, of course you are so deserving of all the kindness in the world!

Totally get the inability to respond. There are a few people and a few situations in my life, that, though I love them very much, apparently, every thought I have about them, my brain would rather keep private. This dress is AMAZING!!!!

Congratulations on your first finished garment in a while! I've gone through periods of depression when I couldn't even think of participating in the creative outlets I loved. I'm so happy to see you feeling good enough to flirt with getting back in the saddle! You may not have been completely satisfied with this project, but I and I'm sure many others are thrilled about it. Keep on chugging!
