I do not think it is about getting to the emergency fast. Have you read the research about driving lights and sirens to am emergency? These days it is about being seen as a emergency vehicle on scene. Your lights are to inform other drivers to slow down and to warn them about an upcoming incident; evening while driving. Running lights and sirens to a scene barely makes a difference. Do the research.

Way too many lights going on. It's too distracting for drivers, not to mention it looks unprofessional. Additionally, the only first responders who need to be driving really fast are, sometimes, police officers. Even then, rarely does it make a true difference. The risk of driving excessively fast and running emergent to calls is not worth it.

Hell in NJ you would be arrested for that many lights and that setup. Wig Wags illegal, the setup totally illegal by the NJ State Police standard and laws. You can not even have a lightbar on your vehicle. some departments don't even run lights in POV's in NJ anymore.

NJ State as of 2002.....Emergency warning lights shall be temporarily attached, removable lights of the flashing or revolving type not more than 7.5 inches in diameter, equipped with a blue lens and a lamp of not more than 51 candlepower and shall be controlled by a switch installed inside the vehicle.

No more than two emergency warning lights shall be installed on a vehicle. If one light is used it shall be installed in the center of the roof of the car, or on the left windshield column in a position where a spotlight is normally located, or on the front of the vehicle so that the top of the warning light is no higher than the top of the vehicle's headlights. If two lights are used they may be placed on the windshield columns on each side of the vehicle where spotlights are normally located, or on either side of the roof at the front of the vehicle directly back of the top of the windshield. Under no circumstances may one light be placed on the roof and one on the windshield column in the spotlight position.

I own my own install company. A PROFESSIONAL install company. Everything is wired and ran properly with proper connections. So what you have to do is good install shops in your area or asking police and fire departments where they get their cars done. You more than likely have a shop near you that your not aware of. Where do you live?

Not in our department. I am not wealthy but I made so great investment in the last 50 years. Now is the time to pay them hack. WE were established in 1921 but it all fell by the way side over the years. Almost 3 years ago I decided to add some parade equipment to make things a bit exciting, but to my surprise everyone in the lodge fell in love with the idea! So I personally guaranteed that ANYONE who put in the effort of training, and completing all the required courses as well as all the FEMA/CERT courses would NOT have to pay for a thing. WE are now at work as first responders! I have purchased 2 ambulances, 2 pumpers, 1 ladder truck, 1 DODGE RAM PU for a skid pack unit as well as a killer DODGE CHARGER for the chief (me LOL). Each and every unit has the newest of LED lighting, HAM radios, CB radios, City/County radios, and so on. All the units have fresh paint and all new real gold lettering and reupholstered seats. And true to my word each and every one of our 48 men and women have not had to pay a thing! From boots to socks, to flame safe garments to helmets with their names and rank on them. The catch is that if THEY cause the destruction through careless acts they pay for the replacement - if they wear out I will cover 1/2 of the cost. All the grants have been applied for but needless to say with all the COVID problems they are taking a LOT of time to process. BUT we are a proud working volunteer group. And the bunch of people that had no direction 2 years ago now literally fight daily to to see who gets to wash and polish the vehicles. 1 question though can you over polish and buff a vehicle? at $8k each for paint alone I sure don't want to do all that again. P.S. For anyone that thinks I am rich - nope - I bought used 2010 PIERCE equipment ($5k each), ambulances ($2.5 k) were bought off Govdeals, the PU was my 2017 RAM ($42 K new in 2017 I donated), and I literally stole the chiefs car from a city auction of ex undercover cars. ($1200 out the door with most of the lighting included) and about $9k to sex everything up. I did not keep count of the safety equipment, boots, badges and all that kind of stuff I figured at that point what I didn't tell my wife the better. Hope that helps to answer your question of how I equipped our station and staff. @RandomName I could be wrong, but I believe there’s a department near where I live that will pay for POV lighting if you’re a paramedic or firefighter 2 or higher on the department, but it’s really Basic. It’s only like one mini light bar and like a tiny 100 Watt or 150 watt siren

Not excessive at all. Take all the individual lights away that would be in a light bar and there will barely be anything left. I'm 360 covered. The 4 dash lights if you watch the video you will hear me say that the 2 in the center is for a year long test. Not permanent. Police cars in my area have more lights than my car. Of you take away my grill lights (2), my dash lights (6), the lights on the cornor of my LP(2), the lights in the side window (2), than you would have enough for a light bar that would be mounted to the roof. Leaving all the hideaways front and back, head light flasher, rear stick, plus the 2 light on the deck and the runner and you have no more than a patrol car.

Confusing is right. Some states require a fixed light bar on the vehicle of specified size and colors. Other don't regulate much at all and allow the local Fire Chief to choose.

Incorrect. Without a roof mounted light bar one light to the rear and front would not cover 360 degrees of coverage. I roll intersections and occasionally parked on scene. As stated all the dash lights will be removed after February. If You break down all the individual lights, there isn't many more in the front or rear window that a light bar has. I do not live in a "Courtesy" state. My vehicle is classified as an emergency vehcile. Why should police cars, fire trucks and ambulances have more lights than my pov? Is my life and safety less important?
