Campfire cooking is much more enjoyable when you have something to hang your pots on while they are over the fire. A set of fire irons or pot racks are the ideal solution.
My name is John Switzer, thank you for watching. Black Bear Forge is a small one person shop located in the Southern Colorado Mountains

I've got a set very similar to what you have made. A blacksmith over here in Australia made mine. It is so handy to cook on around the campfire. Being all hand made like yours are, they are a work of art.

This sort of fire set was the first project I ever hammered out.I made the tripod, pot hanger, the hooks,and skewers,... I made four or five and managed to make enough to pay for the rental of the forge. Of course now i have my own forge.

Always enjoy watching your videos. I have 6 sets of tripods from 6' down to 15 inches. Used them for many years doing reenacting and just camping. Now, I have about 200 pounds of metal cookware and all the accouterments that just sit in boxes in my lower garage . Always did enjoy cooking for 30 or more people.

I made a fireplace poker set. Prey bars. Its better than the store made stuff. Thongs, Meat hooks, Block Ice thongs, Hay bail handles, Tomatoes steaks, out them them. Camping fire pot legs, with a grill under it, and things from them> List goes on and on. All of this will be handed down from me, To My Family for Generation to Generations to come. BUT RIGHT NOW! I'am USING THEM 🤣 👍👍

Geesh! John second injury since I began watching your channel. Hey, rock work is hard work ... esp. in the name of a video. Take care hope the knee heals well. It sucks when we age and our body doesn't keep up with what our mind thinks we can still do. Oh to have green bones of the youth. Then again, green bones and green minds go together. Hmm? John I hope you can continue to get out to your yard, but stay safe and wear your knee brace. I Fire Irons look great. Thanks for the video.

Nice set of camping tools there. I make a similar set that has a loop at the end of each stake. I run a chain through them when used as a tripod, but usually I set them up similar to how you prefer to use them. I also made two brackets that slide onto the two uprights before they are hammered into the ground. They can slide up, and down on the bar, and I use sections of chain to adjust the bight of them. One has sort of a curved hook that holds the cross bar, the other has a sort of square hook that does not allow the bar to rotate. It's basically an adjustable rotisserie set. Also I hope your leg gets better soon. Take it easy, and don't push it to hard! 👍 Best wishes.

Take care of that knee as the experts tell you, otherwise you will need an after-market one. Splendid project though. You can even spit a medium size animal or haunch, using the eye to fix the rotation at the correct spot with a pole for a while.

You definitely get a "HOT" workout every day. Iron smithing is hard and tiring hot work(as you know)But your stuff sure is nice and tis nice to keep doing and teaching these kind of things. I'm glad you are willing to share because there are so many folk that don't know much about how stuff can be made. I once was in a gift shop in Cody Wyoming that had a few metal forged and welded items for sale.A door knocker is what it was under the sign. The sign above the items said something like,"ABSOLUTELY NO PHOTOS of metal items ALLOWED">>then it read>> if you want to find out what is inside of your cell phone or camera, just take a photo of these items and I will show you what is in there myself. yea..... we didn't buy darn thing from that place.Took our business elsewhere to someone who hopefully wasn't as much of an arsh..I know, I should be that tight(:.. Glad you are such a good teacher!Keep it up!

I always wondered about how blacksmithing was like in the production sense and how it could be possible to get started in making the thing profitable. This seems easy enough, take away the power hammer and with a little DIY welding I can see myself trying it out.
@BlackBearForge
@BlackBearForge 5 жыл бұрын
I was making these before I had the hammer. So a hammer isn't required. Mostly it allows you to work longer days without wearing out swinging a hand hammer.
