In the pre-Theater days, the boys did "commercials" on station KFWB, including "Jack Armstrong's All-American Used Cars in beautiful downtown Palmdale", with acres and acres of road-hungry Packards, some with original tires, batteries and upholstery! Open Sunday and Sunday only for your shopping convenience!"

@CMSFoundation The heavy, dubwise production style of the LP is REALLY baffling without this movie as a visual anchoring mechanism. And with the release in the "Duke of Madness Motors" set of the complete Martian Space Party audio, the puzzle grows even deeper!

They were guest hosts on Evening at the Improv. But I haven't seen it posted yet. They used to have a web site.

Most FST interviews I've read find the guys somewhat dismissive of the "Martian Space Party"/"Not Insane" era, and to be sure, the film and the album are both pretty confounding as standalone documents. Listening to both of them back to back, though, you start to get a better sense of what the guys were at least attempting around this time.

I'm not certain, but I think this clip may be from their 1972 short film, "Martian Space Party". Its content overlaps with the Firesign Theater album, "Not Insane".

Peter Bergman looks like Bob Dylan in this clip.

Peter Bergman is the bald one with the beard. The Dylan-looking guy is Phil Austin.

@ECJim3 Yep, It's "Martian Space Party," and it's a mess. (Apparently the people who shot it decided that they could edit better than the 4 or 5 could write and perform.) Still, when it works it's as sublime as anything they ever did.

@CMSFoundation It's very ambitious...to me, it sounds like an audio cubism, perhaps a multi-view look inside Radio Prison, where instead of the TV channel being switched (a la the first four albums), the streams of information fuzzily blend into each other like conflicting radio signals.
