I love my R-Tech welder. I bought a Sealey mighty mig and I just couldn't get good consistant welds. The R-Tech worked straight out of the box and every weld has been spot on, couldn't recommend it highly enough.

Great video Trev, nice to see that you had a guard fitted to your grinder as there are so many people not using them these days that it’s getting scary. I once used someone else’s grinder without a guard and managed to put a nasty cut in my index finger with a slitting disc, I was lucky not to lose my finger. If I had to get into a tight corner to grind something then I would use my die grinder. Perhaps you could put a small section in one of your videos on how you use grinders etc, thanks,best wishes, Chris.

A mate bought one of those very welders. The arc stability and wire feed consistency are those of a much more expensive machine. Iv been welding for 15+ years and was really impressed with the capabilities of the machine full stop. The price bracket makes it impossible to ignore. Great bit of kit overall.

"The arc stability and wire feed consistency are those of a much more expensive machine" ... no offence but your 15 years of "welding" mean fuck all bud.. I use a fronius 3500c which aint even a pulse mig and that absolutely blows even r techs 450a model out the water.. ive used a r tech before from a mate and while it works for hobby stuff.. anything more.. na it just welds horribly compared to a Lincoln or kempii let alone a fronius.. as for price.. r tech loose again.. paton welders are actually really good for their price and are pulse migs.. r tech will loose their hobby crown in the future unless they make a pulse mig for the likes of you lot.
@mopedmarathon
@mopedmarathon 2 жыл бұрын
@@Migman2020 easy there big guy. Never said it was the best welder ever made regardless of price. Obviously a fronius will be better. It’s also a £4K machine. Admittedly Iv not tried a Paton but I have used enough machines from various manufacturers (Lincoln, gys, and kempi) to know it’s a fecking good little package. I was looking at it from a low budget hobby or light professional point of view. You say it welds horribly, I say you’ve been spoiled by your posh machinery and lost your touch. Now calm down.

@@mopedmarathon i didnt say its the best welder ever as well.. but you said "The arc stability and wire feed consistency are those of a much more expensive machine" . im only quoting what you said and 4k is pretty cheap tbh. but na even parweld puts down better welds and i think their dog shit as well tbh both machines can not do a spray correctly on their 3 phase models which gives a indication of how well it keeps its timing. your know how good a welder is when it runs 1mm wire tbh

I have only recently found your channel and am hooked. I’ve spent most of this week going through your tutorials instead of getting on with my own project (it is freezing in my garage at the moment). I wish I had a tenth of your skill! If you are looking for subjects for future videos then dent removal from aluminium and aluminium rust treatment would be interesting (especially for Land Rover owners). I’d love to buy an R-Tech Tig but am worried if I buy a DC machine I will later regret not being able to weld aluminium, but the AC/DC machines are so much more expensive.

I’ve wondered before about the mask over a helmet. I was told to use gasless wire when outdoors, which has worked thus far though I tend to only do small jobs. It does take more cleaning but I usually have to ground my welds so it doesn’t make much difference to me. I'm really looking forward to your next video as I often weld very thin materials and I’ve gone wrong more than once. Another great video, thank you.

Great video Trev...like always! And particularly like the new extended outro, ...that baseline is phaaaat. :-) I have also recently bought the R-tech 180 Mig welder, ...as I scatted my Clarke welder years ago, just through pure frustration. And had struggled to commit to replacing it ever since. But after the watching your recent video's on more the Tig/Mig welding stuff, plus some forum reading and online researsh, it was now clear and a no brainer. Uk supplier, solid product (I like the idea of the euro torch fitment) and solid support. It was pretty tuff to 'click' the purchase button just based on the rrp, ...but I now needed a reliable Mig welder back in my life, and it would have been a lot tougher to pull the trigger on the other known brands in the entry level market, knowing that they really, really fail to represent value for money. Hence why i spent the last 6 years wandering about in the Migless wilderness. :-( Looking forward to the next video. :-) ps. Not sayin that the R-tech 180 Mig is entry level either
@trevsblog
@trevsblog 4 жыл бұрын
Ozzi In the Uk - if you were to define entry level as suitable for a beginner then it certainly is an entry level welder. Because the kind of things I weld are pretty thin and just basically mild steel then this welder is absolutely fit for purpose for me. I use welding and have done welding lots in my work but I certainly wouldn’t call myself a welder or a welding expert by any stretch. I’ve used Clark Sealey and on the whole they’ve been ok my last welder was a Migatronic and the one before a SIP both of these welders produced results I was happy with, although I had frustrations with both welders I don’t with the R-tech, I think R-tech have managed to produce a good little welder here, they must have saved costs by not building a heavy duty chassis on wheels with heavy cylinder carrying capacity with a large case that holds a 15kg spool, these savings have gone into the electronics and great wire feed and being able to provide the three year warranty. A trade off worth having! Cheers Trev

Hey Trev, greetings from Germany. I am a big fan of both yours and your Mrs KZfaq channels! 🥰 Just a quick question. Why didn’t you leave a gap between the angles and weld into the gap /lay a root. Like you showed in but welding sheet metal !? It would have saved you grinding and welding time I guess !?
@trevsblog
@trevsblog 4 жыл бұрын
Electrific69 I’ll answer this in an upcoming video. But for now consider that the thinner the metal the more tricky it is to get the correct amount of power. Too much and you end up with a hole and too little and the weld sits on the surface, if you try and run weld it, the speed at which the steel dissipates the heat in order to stay as a solid material is very quickly exceeded. So as a way of insuring good penetration leaving a very small gap almost guarantees that the steel sheets will have weld along the edge holding the two sections together, all the while having the welder set at a very low power setting. When you’re welding thick material, the characteristics completely change as you’re more focused on weld penetration and not too concerned about blowing holes, the heat is dissipating faster than the heat generated by the welder, when welding thicker material. You would find it quite hard melting a hole in a 3mm piece of steel compared to welding a piece under 1mm, obviously not impossible but much harder in comparison. Hope this helps. Cheers Trev 👍

Out of interest, does the wire speed motor get affected by your wire voltage setting? My cheap old Clarke changed the voltage to the wire speed motor when you changed the welding voltage. Made it so tricky to fine tune. I ended up getting a small transformer just to run the wire speed motor. I suspect a lot of Chinese made welders are the same, but haven't been able to find out.
@trevsblog

freshpootube I’ve heard of this before but I’ve never actually experienced it with any of my own welders, perhaps this is a cost driven necessity to enable the manufacturers to produce a budget welder. Cheers Trev 👍

Marcus Loftis feel free to skip the ads, most people do I guarantee it. Obviously if people watch the ads I get paid more. If I can make a go of it I’ll turn making videos into a career and the only way I can do that is by covering my overheads. The more ads I load on the more I get paid but don’t let it ruin your experience, I’m sure that if you watched just one ad you’d be watching more than most people. You’re in the minority by the way being concerned about this kind of thing, I get a lot of comments complaining about the ads and the quality of my productions, completely oblivious about the time and commitment I put into it. You’ve a kind heart. Cheers Trev 👍

Trev, the solution to your windy day problem is flux cored wire. It sucks for autobody sheet metal welding but in some respects is better than MIG (for example superior penetration) when it comes to thicker material and outside conditions. Buy a two pound spool for just such occasions. I agree that either your voltage was too low or your wire speed was too fast. The sound was just not right. It sounded to me as though the wire was pushing on the work, which it should never do. I think you need to play around with the settings some. Start with the recommendations on the sheet they normally glue to the inside panel of the welder where you install the wire and adjust from that baseline. My ears told me that you were either running to at too low of a voltage or at too fast of a wire speed for the voltage chosen.

Hi Trv, great instructional videos. No other video exists on KZfaq like the one you did where you showed the internal bits for a Coffee business. Do you have a recommendation for the size of Gas cylinder ? I'm looking to use gas all day on small duel fuel coffee machine on a trike. Space is limited on the front so asking for advice. Thank you.
@trevsblog
@trevsblog 3 жыл бұрын
If you’re going to use propane refills then the larger the bottle is the cheaper the gas becomes per litre. Have you considered what you’ll do when the bottle runs out? as you’ll need to swap the bottles over so therefore need the facility to store two bottles, otherwise you’ll be stuck halfway through the day with no gas. In the uk it’s illegal to refill a tank at the fuel station unless it’s been properly fitted into a vehicle so I’m guessing that a refillable bottle like the one I’ve fitted may not be any good for you. Incidentally petrol stations are now removing their lpg pumps so it’s getting harder for me to be able to fill up. The manufacturer of my gas cylinder advised me to use an 11 kg bottle because the evaporation rate of the gas on their 6 kg bottle was lower and there was a slight chance that it wouldn’t keep up if I used the machine flat out. Hope this helps. Cheers Trev 👍

Hi Trev, I saw a Chinese brand inverter in this video, my experience with Chinese inverters is not good, under high loads, like a water cooker / coffee machine they fail fast, specifications need to be taken with a grain of salt. Good experiences I have with Victron Energy, it's not cheap, but as you will be using it commercially, have the right stuff that is up to the task is essential I think.

Roland Leusden I’m surprised and sorry to hear you’ve had a problem with your R-tech welder. The last accident repair shop I worked in bought a 200 amp model. I watched that welder being used every day by multiple people, every couple of months it would have burned through a 15kg spool of wire and we were replacing the lance every year because it had simply worn out. Seven years on it was still working fine, never missed a beat. I left then so I don’t know how much longer it went on for. Longer than me anyway 😉 cheers Trev 👍

@trevsblog 4 жыл бұрын
Roland Leusden Major Miss understanding 😂 as the video was about welding I assumed you were talking about the inverter side of the welder. If I’d paid more attention I’d have noted you said coffee machine etc...this is the problem with answering as many questions as possible 🤔 With regards to the van inverter I’ll just have to see. I just cannot invest anymore into the van as I’m out of funds, and with no chance of trading with it at the moment it’ll have to stay as it is. It definitely won’t be running anything with an element as the coffee machine is LPG powered on the heating side. So the inverter will be running the flojet, coffee grinder, high pressure pump and solenoids in the coffee machine. Well under 1500W with everything running all at once. I knew of somebody running an all electric coffee machine off a bank of batteries and a very powerful inverter, it didn’t work out. They then bought a huge petrol generator and burned that out too. Cheers Trev 👍

i am very critical about gas welding outside about gear used (handheld shield) about way torch pooling weld and mostly about making that frame at around 5th minute of the video. first gas welding is for indoors only any complaining about wind means u know nothing about gas welding, handheld shield really? one inch weld in two stop-start? u can make a meter long weld in one go and if there is possible to walk i did it myself a 2 meter weld in single go this is why handheld crap comes with all the entry level stuff - its just useless. gas welding torch is pointing the way its going - gasless and stick goes backward. yes u can go as Trev did but it looks like u never spend a day cleaning your weld and if you dont need it clean why to have gas welder? just because u have to much money? making the frame i did hundreds of them u may not always need accuracy but welding two peaces and tacking the rest two? it is not a complex peace u can tack all 4 peaces than clamp weld turn around and do the same because heat affects a lot and where is tape? even making jig stuff it is taped. by the way blueish steal means overheating penetration on the other side it is also sign of the overheating which means your amp should go slightly down
