Gentleman, please don't quit on this idea/technology! It is highly needed by lifeguards on the world's beaches. I can speak from experience after rescuing someone who was drowning in the ocean. The guy I saved would definitely have wished the county or town where he was swimming would have provided these to the life guards patrolling the beach. I've seen life guards using jet skis out in California, but there maintenence bills each year would way over run $10,000. Electric compared to a gas engine maintenance is incomparable. Sure the gas engine probably might be faster, but through time and technology that eventually would be beat. So please keep developing your product and refining it to obviously lower it's cost and eventually you'll find the right way to mass produce it. Just like a defibrillator. They initially cost way overboard. Now they're in every building and airplane. And not that I want to put lifeguards out of business, but this electric board could be placed as a life saving device for anyone to save someone from drowning. In a remote controlled set up, it could bring someone a life saver.

And would you need a boating course or boating card to rent one?

As a lifelong surfer who has fashioned a career around it, I'd hasten to call that "surfing" or even what you're riding a "surfboard". But, with that said, it sure looks like fun!

I had a question, I’m getting ready to build an electric motorcycle and there is quite a bit of math involved deciding whether or not to liquid cool your controller and motor or both. My assumption is that I’ll only need to liquid cool the motor and kits come readily available for such. However, in your opinion what sort of performance numbers, ride times, speeds and size require liquid cooling systems in your opinion and do you think it’s worth it. I’m probably looking at using the KLS-8080IPS if you want a controller example.

Tip. Stand a little bit more offset!. In your case have your front left foot more on the left side of the board and your back right foot more on the right side of the board. This wat you can easily put more pressure on the edge (rails) of the board, and will make turning front and backside so much more easy.

I'm holding out for the Bafang Ultra version, it supposedly will have a farmer's tan sensor built in.

Extend a tether from the nose of the board to a wide handle that can be held by the other hand that doesn't have the throttle. This would give you an extra point of stability.

This thing is a surfboard like a Segway is a skateboard, especially in regards to how spectacularly uncool they make everyone look just for being on them. Surfboards surf on waves. I doubt you’d want to surf on one of these because it’d only make things worse. The proper category for this is standup jet ski. As someone who thinks going on the water is just an excuse to get drunk during the day, I don’t understand what that really adds to the jet ski experience. Seems like it’d be fun for about thirty minutes before you realized it didn’t have a cup holder and head back for another beer. I bet little kids would like it for an afternoon.

This is cool, but it looks expensive. I was wondering. What if you made a really big surfboard, with a slot in the front and the back so that you could install a regular motorcycle. The surfboard would have small rubber tires around the edge on both sides. So when you ride the bike, it can tilt but it can’t fall over. The surfboard wouldn’t have any engine or brakes, so it shouldn’t cost too much.

I have purchased a windsurfing kit a few decades ago for less than $1,300.00. The whole functional kit costs more for the manufacturers to make (examples: boom, sail, accessories to carry and to attach components) than for the manufacturer of an electric surfboard. For the latter, all it takes is to figure out a way to install an electric motor and a splash proof lithium ion battery (GoPro and Yamaha have figured it out already). So there is no need to do costly R&D for an electric surfboard. The only thing that makes it so pricey for the average American middle class to buy it is that the ownership, the manufacturing, the distribution, and the sales division are pretty much in the hands of American hi tech entrepreneurs who want to make lot of money on a new consumer product. For example, you pay more and would need US tax rebates to buy a Tesla, even through you can buy a much cheaper and better performing ICU SUV. And, by the way, the latter costs more to make and to assemble than a typical electric vehicle.

Unfortunately , many if not most states will require registration , watercraft reg. Numbers and in California, inspection and fees if used in lakes. We need a movement to exempt electric powered watercraft.

Looks fun but seems like a huge waste of resources and emissions. Someone is producing that thing somewhere. Utterly unneeded and will not see more than a few dozen hours of use throughout its life cycle. Way to crank up your footprint. Might as well be fuel powered I suppose, the batteries getting so little use for the emissions they represent.
