@@farrahlynne7121 Which is exactly why is sucks !!! She did that to rebel against Lindsey's careful crafting/arranging of the song, and everything she could to destroy all the extra work that Lindsey to get the band to even accept ANY of her songs, which included reworking and rearranging them, adding extra orchestration and directing the band to produce that buttery smooth sound that people loved. Stevie's ego is what destroyed the band.

When I saw Fleetwood Mac in concert back in the day Stevie Nicks introduced this by saying, "This is a song about a Welsh witch". Great song, great reaction guys. This particular line up of Fleetwood Mac is actually the third distinct version of the band. The original Fleetwood Mac was fronted by an English guitar player called Peter Green. Most people have no idea that Peter Green wrote the song "Black Magic Woman" and Santana's version is a cover. Green also wrote "Green Manalishi With the Two Prong Crown", which Judas Priest would later cover. Both are good selections to give you a good idea of where Fleetwood Mac began. Then there's the Bob Welsh period of which the song "Hypnotized" is the most emblematic. And that leads us to the Buckingham and Nicks era. That was when they relocated from England to southern California as well. When Mick Fleetwood (drummer) offered Lindsey Buckingham the gig with FM Buckingham told him that he and Stevie were "a package deal". Fleetwood wasn't too sure about that, but wanted Buckingham enough that he eventually agreed. And the rest, as they say, is history 😎🤘 I really appreciate sharing your journey through the music that has been the soundtrack to my life and times.🤘 Do more Rush. "Cinderella Man" by Rush would be great 😃👍

Stevie Nicks wrote this on a piano with help from her boyfriend, Lindsey Buckingham. At the time, they were recording as Buckingham-Nicks and about to release the track on their second album, but they joined Fleetwood Mac instead and recorded it with them. Nicks started writing this song after reading the book Triad by Mary Leader. It is about a woman who believes she is being possessed by the spirit of a woman named Rhiannon. There are themes of mythology and the occult that Nicks used in her song along with the name.

@michael14195
@michael14195 Жыл бұрын
@@steveh7108 Stevie wrote the song. She was inspired by the book, which in turn was inspired by something called the "Mabinogion", which is a collection of Welsh folklore/myths for which our oldest surviving written text dates back to roughly the late 1300's, but which was based on oral traditions hundreds of years older than that. In the Triad, Rhiannon is a witch, and in the written Mabinogion she's a woman with a lot of supernatural powers such as a beautiful white mare that seems to walk slowly, but no matter how fast you chase after Rhiannon riding that horse you can never quite catch up, unless you politely ask her to wait for you. Reading between the lines, I'm pretty sure that when the story was really old, before it was written down by Christian clergy who wouldn't approve of people telling stories about faeries or pagan gods, she was one of the Sidhe, the faeries who live in the hollow mounds, or perhaps a minor goddess, because her second husband's name is basically the Welsh spelling of the name of the Irish god of the sea. So the original story is REALLY old!

So my name is actually, honestly Rhiannon. As such, I can say that, yes, you said it right. I can also let you in on some of the few things I know about Rhiannon. Originally, she was a Welsh goddess. However this isn't the intent of the Fleetwood Mac song. Fleetwood Mac's Rhiannon was inspired by a book Stevie Nicks read in which a woman was possessed by a witch named Rhiannon. So, the song is about a witch named Rhiannon. Makes sense with lines like "She is like a cat in the dark and then she is the darkness". However, music is always up to be interpreted by the listener, and what it means to one may be completely different than what it means to another. So thanks for doing my song 😂 always look forward to hearing more from y'all 😘🐈‍⬛

Yep, Fleetwood Mac are very much their own thing. From their Peter Green origins as a British blues band, to a jazzier, eclectic sound when Bob Welch took over lead guitar and vocals, then Buckingham/Nicks join the band on December 31st, 1974 and the rest is history. It's the only major act I can think of that's founded around the rhythm section. The drums of Fleetwood and the bass of McVie (Mac).

1st Fleetwood Mac song I ever heard. I was in love from the 1st few notes. Stevie Nicks says it’s a song about an old Welsh witch. Two things that deserve mention. Sometimes you have to listen carefully to appreciate Christine McVie’s keyboard genius. This is what gives a lot their music that ethereal, mesmerizing, hypnotic effect. The other thing is Lindsay Buckingham’s guitar. To call him a virtuoso is an under statement by orders of magnitude. The intro to Rhiannon is a perfect example. Besides the fact that he doesn’t use a pick, which is unique for electric guitar, he creates and plays some of the most simple sounding, but actually very intricate pieces imaginable. In this song he’s actually playing 2 parts at the same time. The main riff with his index and middle fingers and a bass line with his thumb. Try playing it and you soon discover that it’s hard as woodpecker lips. If you’d like to see a demonstration/tutorial that shows just how much is happening, check out the link below. Much love ❤️ kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fcd4fcl90dzWemQ.html

I chose Rhiannon-Mae for my daughters name because of the song. The name Rhiannon itself has a special definition. The song has great meaning. You can find Stevies explanation from a few interviews and books. I'm a huge Stevie and Fleetwood Mac fan. Even though im 37. My best friends dad as well as my mom were always playing Fleetwood Mac old and new(so many live versions are great)When I heard Rhiannon the 1st time, it's what made me lovvve them. I was in 4th grade and had heard plenty of the Mac but Rhiannon solidified it. Years later I knew I'd have a Rhiannon if it was a girl. A queen, a goddess, magical, enchanting as well as Stevies meaning- a "white witch" -good witch, does no harm but she's aware of her power, takes to the sky like a bird in flight(what a boss)... and she's a character in a book that Stevie read. In the book, Rhiannon is a spirit that has taken over womens soul/body- then an exorcism. ( kinda Like a woman can take over a man/woman spiritually and more. Mesmerized?). In the mythological meaning Rhiannon is a Goddess maker of birds(steed) . Ppl blacked out when she'd arrive, and more. There is a "song of Rhiannon " that 3 birds sing. The mythological meaning, she supposedly did not know when she wrote it. So it's like it was meant to be. The first thing was Stevie saw the name, thought it was beautiful and went from there to Mick, he agreed. And so when I found out Rhiannon-Mae was a girl, I cried because I was so happy. Weirdly- I still can't listen to the song without at least tearing up. So far, she's fulfilling the meaning of the name with the bat of her eyes to her daddy, her independence and free spirit . Tmi? Sorry lol. Your review popped up and this song is why I pushed play🤣 I enjoyed it so I'm deffinately watching more. Not sure why there's a big line through my comment showing but it's not mine.

Per Songfacts Stevie Nicks started writing this song after reading the book Triad by Mary Leader. It is about a woman who believes she is being possessed by the spirit of a woman named Rhiannon. There are themes of mythology and the occult that Nicks used in her song along with the name. Nicks did not know the story of Rhiannon the goddess until after she wrote the song, but she felt the lyrics fit that story as well. She told Mojo magazine December 2013: "It wasn't until 1978 that I found out about (Welsh medieval prose tales) Mabinogion and that Branwen and Rhiannon are in there too, and that Rhiannon wasn't a witch at all; she was a mythological queen. But my story was definitely written about a celestial being, I didn't know who Rhiannon was, exactly, but I knew she was not of this world." The goddess Rhiannon rode a white horse and traveled with three birds that had healing powers. The birds appear in various Celtic symbols.

Rhiannon is a Celtic legend, actually. She was a sidhe (pronounced SHEE like banshee) queen, like Galadriel from Lord of the Rings - like really, Tolkien based the elves on legends of the sidhe. And Rhiannon even fell in love with a human lord & left the faerie realm to marry him. She didn't give up her power or immortality, though, and good thing, too, because Pwyll was a schmuck who threw her under the bus in the WORST way, so she cursed his ass & went home to faerie. Now she's an immortal demigoddess queen & their son is her loyal champion, but the dumb fucking human who couldn't be worthy of her is a ghost with nothing but the knowledge that he threw them away. Stevie Nicks was really moved but that story & feels a deep spiritual connection to it that really comes across on the song. What you were talking about, about the vibe of "stay away from her" is because in the story, Pwyll begs Rhiannon to forgive him, and for that stretch when all these old stories were sanitized, she did, and they lived happily ever after. But in the older versions, the ones that were resurfacing in Stevie's day, what he did was too much. It was really powerful for Stevie Nicks to find a beautiful old myth like that & then at the end, the beautiful, powerful enchantress who's suffered so nobly says "sorry ain't gonna cut it, I'm outta here." That she had the self love & self respect to not forgive, to refuse to accept what was done to her & enforce consequences for the betrayal, but she also didn't go the cliche vengeance route. So yeah, it's a warning that a real woman will fuck you up - if you're dumb enough to lose her, you're not getting another shot. You'll regret that the rest of your life.

If you really want to hear a Fleetwood Mac song that puts you in that gypsy trance, you should listen to their song "Gypsy." Between Stevie's vocals and Lindsey's guitar solo at the end, it's one of their best.

One other thing….as nice as it is to just HEAR this, when you SEE Stevie perform it, it’s a whole other experience entirely. She’s very hypnotic in her gestures almost otherworldly.

Watching Asia read the words and react is priceless! And B.J. you are 100% right about the ''Gypsy vibes''! There was a rumor when I was growing up in the '60's and '70's that Stevie Nicks dabbled in ''witchcraft''. She certainly made you think that in some of her presentations of their songs anyway! Great y'all!

It's brilliant that BJ said this song has a gypsy vibe because Stevie Nicks is the ultimate gypsy.

Stevie Nicks kinda' fancied herself as some kind of "White Witch/Gypsy" when she was young.... looking back, maybe the cocaine , booze and partying had something to do with it, lol anyways, very talented and she is famous 'cuz millions bought it hook, line and sinker and more importantly, we all bought Fleetwood Mac records.... another great reaction guys, thumbs up!

Rhiannon is a Welsh goddess of horses and the 'otherworld' or middle earth, who is associated with both the moon and sun. She rides a white mare and is accompanied by three magical birds known as 'Adar Rhiannon.' It is believed that their song can awaken the dead and lull the living to sleep for seven years. Some scholars believe that Rhiannon is the Welsh manifestation of the Gaulish horse goddess Epona and she is linked with fertility, regeneration, feminine strength and enchantment. Got it ? :)

They were lucky enough to have three very competent lead singers. Stevie Nicks is perhaps the most visible as a solo artist, but Christine McVie and Lindsey Buckingham both contributed immensely to the group sound and dynamic. Check out "Over my Head" and "You Make Loving Fun" to hear the smooth pipes of Christine
