This haunting version of the classic song, Thunder Rolls by Garth Brooks includes the banned verse, what people also call the 3rd verse. Garth Brooks video for Thunder Rolls was banned from being played on MTV, VH1 and CMT. In this video from the Story Tellers show that appeared on VH1 in the early 90s, Garth explains that he was not the first person to record the song as well as explaining why the, we’ll call it the 3rd verse was not on the album No Fences but was on the video which would be later banned for content. Garth performs this song in it’s entirety during live concerts and it’s always a crowd favorite. This is one of my favorite versions of the song because it’s so intimate and personal. Garth is an amazing story teller. If you enjoy our video please like the video and subscribe to our channel. If you have any suggestions for artists you would like to see us react to, please post it in the comments section.

I heard Garth do “Thunder Rolls “ at an indoor venue, all verses. When he got to the dark, ominous, thunder rolls line, the entire audience drummed their feet. The eerie rumble of thunder along with the vibrations, sent shivers, and they still do today when I hear this song.

I've had the honor of seeing Garth live in concert a few times. Probably one of the greatest performers I've ever seen. For a country artist, he puts on a Rockstar show. Like you said, he has a way of speaking, singing, looking, and performing that just draws you in. You can't take your eyes off him, because you just don't know what he'll do next. Between him and the crowd, it's like a feeding frenzy. If you ever get a chance, definitely do some reactions to his "live" stuff. "You may be right". "Kerp your hands to yourself" are two covers he does but wow, are they phenomenal! 🤠

I have a personal weird experiences when it comes to Thunder Rolls song and that is to this day 80% of the time when I play the song it could be clear sky's at some point while it's playing it would start to lightly rain or start to heavy rain...that is why I get chills whenever it happens... like it's literally supernatural magic

Garth Brooks was the biggest thing in music in the late 80s early 90s, you couldn't turn on the telly or the radio and not see or hear one of his numbers. He came down here a couple of times and did the whole arena spectacular thing, but I couldn't afford to go so I saved like mad to get as much of his music as I could. All these years later he is still in high rotation both in the car and on the stereo. I've seen the video clip for this one a few times as it was allowed to be aired here on CMC, which was our version of your CMT. If you're still interested in Garth, he does a thing on facey on Monday called "Inside Studio G", where he chats to some of his crew and replies to fanmail/email/sm corro... it's not a bad way to spend an hour or so 😊 🙃🐨🇦🇺

Garth!! A legend!! I burned out all his cd's I played them so much. This song was my staple song at karaoke. I actually won a karaoke championship singing this. It was down to me and a girl who sang Reba MacIntyre. One of the best feelings in the world is standing on stage while the audience is standing, clapping, and screaming cause you just nailed it up there. I love to sing and sang karaoke from Thursday thru Sunday for like 3 or 4 straight years. Then I met a women and had kids and never performed again. Sang to my kids and family but that was it. Now I'm 52 and wonder if I should've stuck with it. Lost some of my voice over the years by smoking and not singing. My vocal chords are to stiff now. I can still sing but I can't hit the notes I used too. Anyway, Garth is way above the rest in country music. Yes George Strait, Willie Nelson, George Jones, and Hank Williams are legends that started country music or put it back n he map but Garth brought pop music fans, and all the other genres fans over to country as well.

This video brought light to domestic violence, and Garth Brooks played the husband and got so much flack, but the extended version was super sad. But this is why he is a legend because so many musicians will stay away from hot topics to appease the masses, but then there are legends who will touch it and bring it to light.

I never new that there was another verse to this song, I've never seen this before. I always assumed that's how the story went though. I figured the thunder rolling and the lightning striking was a metaphor for her shooting him and when it said another love grows cold, that was more literal in the sense that his dead body is growing colder.

The original music video, with the abusive husband, was extremely controversial because the woman clearly had been beaten. Some networks, including CMT, wouldn't even air it. But it was actually women's groups and women's shelters who were supportive of the song and video and viewed it as a tool for raising awareness of the terrors of domestic violence.
@flickeringboxofficial
@flickeringboxofficial Жыл бұрын
I like the look on Alexis's face when I told her that it was banned outright on MTV, VH1 and CMT. She couldn't get her head around that one. By today's standards, it's a tame song for content.

Another reason for the ban was the violence--not just the domestic violence in the video, but the aftermath. Then Martina McBride recorded Independence Day and the Dixie Chicks recorded Goodbye Earl and it seems quaint now.

@@flickeringboxofficial I've always liked stripped down performances , the guitar work is good so good you don't need to notice it - if you know what I mean. I found myself leaning in to hear, which shows how good he is at story. Richard Marx - Hazzard comes to mind as a comparable story. A modern example I would compare it to is Evan Bartels - Shotgun. But contrasting Bartels and Brooks you can see how dark music has gotten. What I knew of Brooks growing up was big live shows and smashing acoustic guitars :) Nice video - thanks for sharing. An Auzzie example is Red Gum - I was only 19

I've only ever heard the concert recording of Thunder Rolls that includes the 3rd verse. This was cool, on the comparison point I think it's just dumb.
