I m so sorry 😢 about your Dad. I lost my Mom and Dad and it still hurts years later. My Mom died 6 years ago and she was my best friend too. Sending you love ❤️ and big hugs. Praying God put angels around you and your family to comfort you. He is still with you. Love never dies. His body is gone but his soul lives forever and I am sure he watches over you. It will get easier but you will never quit loving and missing him. Your lucky to have had such a wonderful Father ❤

My dad was my hero. My best friend. My role model. Grew up wanting to be him. He was superman. Then, I had to spend 2 years watching him getting sicker and sicker. He was sadly brought home for his final sleep. That was when I was 18, I'm 33 now and just talking about him breaks me, even now writing this. Respect to you my brother, to you and your dad.

James Blunt recorded this song in one take as he felt he couldn't do it twice. Blunt wrote and recorded this song for his father who was dying of kidney disease. Fortunately, a distant cousin (I think) heard the song and was a match for his Dad and donated a kidney and saved his Dad's life.

I BAWLED the first time I heard this song while mowing the grass. My dad died of cancer in 2008. He was an absent father for 22 yrs, but when I told him he was a grandpa, he got sober and built a relationship with me.

that’s so beautiful. ironically i came across a song for the first time mowing the grass too a while ago. my first listen to “even though i’m leaving” was while mowing the lawn and i had to stop to cry. i haven’t lost my dad yet which im fortunate to say. i unfortunately got into a touchy disagreement which was over miscommunication which led to a 9 months of me not talking to him or even looking at him (i’m 23 and still live at home). i’m sorry for a long comment. i said some horrible things about him but back in october we made amends. the first thing i told him after we cleared the air about the miscommunication was “im sorry for wasting OUR time on this earth TOGETHER. not my time. not your time. but our time. we together are only limited to share a bond and be in each others lives and i’m sorry miscommunication made our life TOGETHER 9 months shorter.” but that’s so beautiful man that not only did he get sober but that you guys made a relationship especially after 22 years. most people would feel the opposite of what you did. thank you for sharing your story

My dad hasn’t been in my life since I was 2 years old and it’s been 20 years. I only have one memory of him and now outside of everybody I have in my family, as for parents, I only have my mom. I lost my dad at the end of 2020 in a construction accident. He was sent by helicopter to a hospital across the water from our city during Covid, and he tried to survive for 3 weeks there in ICU. We weren't allowed to see him because of the restrictions in place, and he eventually succumbed to his injuries. He was alone, and did not have any family around him. There are many things I regret not saying to him in person. I thought them, but never really shared them with him. Earlier this year, we also lost my mom. This song hits so many feelings. I put it on sometimes when I'm having a moment. Thank you for sharing your moment with us. Our loved ones never really leave us fully. The memories of them are too imbedded in our soul. You have your moments, my friend, anytime you need to, and don't ever fight it. God bless.

Sometimes I feel blessed that I lost my dad and my husband to cancer. At least we had time to talk, to hug and say goodbye. I can't imagine how I would've felt if we didn't have that time together. But just know, there are still so many things I wish I told them. I just tell them now, every day, out loud. I curse at them if I can't open a pickle jar (they would probably laugh at me if they knew). You're right, they never really leave, they become a part of us. I wish you so much love, and please keep talking to them, the wind will take your words to wherever they need to go. ❤

My sincerest condolences. I lost my father to cancer and I was blessed to be with him when he passed. The pain doesn't lessen, but it gets different, and once all the "firsts without Dad" are passed, you will feel his strength in you. It's so weird that even though I am an adult, losing my Dad made me feel like a child again and all I wanted was to sit in his lap one more time and have him tell me a story. Do what you need to to help you deal with this. Cry your eyes out, scream, whatever helps you get the feelings out. Please don't ignore them. I promise, you'll figure out life without your Dad, and he will be so proud of you.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your father. That's so tough. Oh sweetie, I just wanted to walk through the screen and hold you as you sobbed. You had a beautiful, honest, raw reaction to a beautiful, honest, raw song. "Monsters", to me, is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. James Blunt gave the world a real gift when he wrote this song. Never apologize for tears. God gave us tears to help let some of the pain out. And tears can help heal a broken heart. So cry away!

I lost my Dad in 2020 to complications from Dementia. I live in New Zealand and couldn’t be with him in the UK because of covid. It didn’t feel real and I could cry or grieve properly at all until I got smacked in the face by this song and it’s painful beauty. Sending love and strength to everyone here dealing with loss. ❤

My dad died on Dec 31, 1980, when I was 11. I found him in a coma on Christmas morning & he died on New Year's Eve. Eventually you'll cry less & less. I used to feel guilty about that but the fact that I don't cry like I once did doesn't diminish my love for him. Never feel bad about crying. It's healing!

Oh Hunny, I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your Dad. Sending you much love and comfort at this extremely sad and difficult time. When I heard that, this was the song that you would be reacting to. I thought, "Oh no, it is way too soon for you to hear this". But I was wrong, I think it was exactly the right song for you to hear. Make no apologies for your tears. Grief is something that we have or will have experienced in our life, and it will take time to heal. There is no time limit on grieving, but remember there will be a time when you can think of your Dad and smile for all the happy times you shared. Memories that will last a lifetime! ❤️

His kidney came from a distant relative after seeing the video. James Blunts father donated one of his kidney years ago. So left with one that failed years later. James paid everything that wasn't covered and plus. No one knows where the relative lives or if their male or female.

Oh Rick, so emotion for you to handle. But crying is therapeutic and lets out all that stress and grief. James Blunt is one of a kind. He was in the Army and saw many sad and horrid things so he writes and sings with total feeling and understanding. By far the greatest tribute a son can give his father also the hardest song to listen to for us. His dad was diagnosed with kidney failure this was a one take to say goodbye with his dad in the video. His sister wrote part of this as a poem James wrote the rest. The chorus line I’m not your son your not my father was something they said to each other when one of them went on deployment in the military

I've watched and heard this song at least 100 times and I still get as emotional just as you have. It happens when you feel total loss and grief of your parents. I took care of both parents. My Dad, my best buddy and fishing partner and rock. My Dad passed in 2008, Mom 2011 and it still feels like yesterday. The grief is complete, it eases with time, but never goes away. I am truly sorry for your loss and feel your pain😢 HUGS

I lost my father on December 27th. He raised me and my 4 siblings as a single parent. He worked 2 jobs and sacrificed so much just to keep us fed and clothed. I was the black sheep and made many bad choices. He worried about me ending up dead in the gutter and prayed for me every night. I eventually turned my life around and tried to repay his devotion by taking care of him for the lat 10 years of his life. When he died, he was afraid, not about his own impending death, but about if I would be able to go on without him. I love him and miss him with all my heart. He was my hero and my sole purpose for living. 😢

If I’m honest mate I have had full access to my father. He’s had the car to come see me and my sister after walking out on my mother after 14 years, but he doesn’t give a fuck. Sometimes fathers don’t give a fuck and sometimes the reality is some men don’t need a father figure to be strong men, I imagine you have done well so far without him, don’t dwell that you don’t have him. I understand it will be a hard subject to talk about and discuss but some don’t have the right of “dad” or the title of father 😴

Beautiful Reaction ❤ My 1st time hearing this song I sobbed myself to sleep. I lost 5 immediate family members with 18 months. My father was sick for years. My mum passed 1st and I told my dad if he chose to give up his fight to follow her I would stand by his wish. He told me no he still had things he needed to do. I then lost 2 brothers and an uncle who lived with us. My dad then had to give up his fight but b4 he did I asked him what was it he had to do. He told me he had to fight to make sure his other sons and daughters knew he was there to share his strength while we dealt with the loss of our mother even though he lost another 2 sons along the way. 2 years on my dad breaks my heart. But I know he and the love of his life are together again. He was a hard honest man. He loved us like lambs but protected us like a lion. Take the hurt as a blessing people because they never leave us. They walk every step we take and if you need to cry for them you cry like never b4. Peace out people one love and remember we are all well able to chase the monsters away ❤❤❤
