Good stuff Polo. I was 16 when he died and it gutted me. The opposite of the simplicity of this song is the very upbeat song he does called ‘Whatever Gets You Through The Night.’ I have a feeling you’ll love it too. Peace ☮️

Polo, I was walking through Georgetown in Washington DC. I was 19 at the time. As I approached a record store I heard the piano intro. I stopped in my tracks, then walked into the store as the song roared from the speakers. Within a minute the store was jam packed as everyone was mesmerized. The song ended and there was dead silence as we all processed what we all just heard. The store sold every copy of the LP. I will never forget that day and the impact it had on hundreds of strangers and a unique shared experience that only a member of the Beatles could create.

I can easily believe he hadn't heard it. He's 40 years younger than Lennon and had a chaotic childhood in addition to coming from a different culture and as a young adult his interest in music was focused elsewhere. Way too many whitey boomers seem to assume that the last several decades were the same for everyone.

Im italian and my mother used to play this music when I was young. She was an hippy 'flower child', 'figlia dei fiori' in italian. I remember the first time I heard 'Imagine' by John Lennon, I was captivated. I was really young, but I remember it. The sweet melody and meaningful lyrics of 'Imagine' have the power to touch the deepest chords of the heart. It's extraordinary how his art can connect with emotions and convey such a universal message of peace and hope. Every note feels like a journey through the ages, carrying with it an eternal call to understanding and unity. John Lennon has left an indelible mark on the history of music and the collective consciousness, inspiring generations to seek a better world. His musical legacy is a shining beacon that continues to guide those in search of beauty and meaning in the vastness of music.

The words of this song are so powerful and have been relevant throughout time. The simplicity of the song is so completely profound in its accuracy of how completely simple it would be too late to rest the wars, The division, and overall noise that stops us from living harmoniously together. John, you had foresight and wisdom beyond your time. I hope I live to see your dream and mine come to fruition.

ICONIC peace track. John was not only an incredibly talented musician, singer/songwriter, but also a true visionary. He sang about peace & love, which sounds so corny today in our self-indulgent, capitalist world, but he was so sincere. He left the #1 band *in the history of music* (at the time), to try and live a simpler life and make music that suited him, not the record companies. Some of the music was a little out there, but his loyal fans followed him. I remember when he was shot & killed. I was in 10th grade. I cried and cried. It was such an *assault* on humanity. Such a tragedy.

This is, without a doubt, the most iconic symbol of peace. His son finally performed it live after stating it would take the end of the world for him to do his father’s song. He cited the war in Ukraine as his reason to do the song. IMHO, his other Iconic song was Give Peace a Chance, done during a “bed in” during the Vietnam war. It was his idea of a sit in, but in a manner that allowed for an inclusive group of people to join him in his room. Thank you for this wonderful expression of your view on Imagine. It was very well said.

Jane H commenting ….. I have always been a fan of John Lennon, & this, for me, was one of the best songs he wrote & sang. First met up with him as a member of The Beatles, who took the world by storm. Initially, I liked Paul McCartney’s looks, songs & voice, when I was a teenager, but when The Beatles split up, it was this song of John Lennon’s that drew me to him. He was a very cool guy, seen here with his second wife, Yoko Ono. I was so shocked when I heard he had been shot & killed, not having recovered from Elvis Presley’s death just 3 years earlier.

Imagine is a world peace standard for decades. All Across the Universe is another gorgeous one by John. My favorite. ❤ Also- A Day in the Life- I think the Beatles’ greatest song. Mostly John- a little Paul in the middle. It’s mindblowing to this day.

Grew up with the Beatles. A young black teenager living in Texas, and my friends and family could not believe me and my best friend - we were crazzzy about the Beatles! Paul was my favorite, and at 73 yrs old, I still love them. John’s passing was devastating to me as young woman with my own family at the time of his death. My children to this day listen to all genres of music, and they thank me for that. I , still play their music….great song writers!

RIP John Lennon. This is a beautiful song, one played by radio dj’s simultaneously when the John’s murder was announced. ‘Imagine’ he was killed by a crazy man with a gun 😡 I still mourn his death & always will , I thought my world ended when John died 😢 But his music heals and still gives the world his message. Guns & crazies don’t mix, they are out of control in America ! Thank you for you wonderful reaction to one of John Lennon’s most iconic songs ❤️‍🩹🥰

Jealous Guy is such a phenomenal tune. So many of his solo songs are great. It still hurts to think how much more music he could have given to the World had he not been murdered.

Only 79K viewers!!! Incredible. This is an iconic song. The lyrics are still relevant all these decades later. The FBI had an ongoing investigation on John Lennon because of his activism for Peace.

Polo, I love your reaction in listening to Imagine for the first time. Many say that this is their favorite song of all time. Out of the many, many songs to choose from, I would love to see your reaction to A Day in the Life by the Beatles. Polo, get into the greatest band ever, the Beatles!! They have so much to offer.

My favorite Lennon song is, "Woman". It reminds me of the first time I saw my wife. Or when I first met her. I remember that day and I remember that song playing at that event. We were children then. 11 & 9.

Hello again. Just got finished watching your John Lennon “IMAGINE “. Beautiful and sad, was not aware you had never heard this song. Anyway, FYI , just in case you didn’t know, he was with the BEATLES, they split and 😢😢😢and that was his wife in the video. He was from the UK, and moved to the U.S., to live with his family.

This is such an amazing, classic song. It is definitely John Lennon's #1 signature song. You should check-out "Jealous Guy," "Working Class Hero," "Beautiful Boy" (about his newborn 2nd son Sean), "Starting Over," "#9 Dream" and "Whatever Gets You Through The Night" (duet with Elton John). Guaranteed you will love each of these.

The Imagine Mosaic in Central Park has to be cleaned off every 30 minutes because people leave so many flowers and tributes. I had a friend who was in NYC on his birthday one year. She took video from Central Park where people gathered to pay tribute to John. The crowd spontaneously broke into this song. She said it was deeply moved by the experience.

Do you realize he was in The Beatles? Did you know he was murdered when he was still young? One of the most noteworthy musicians of the 20th century. Also, the woman in the video is his wife Yoko who was widely criticized as the reason for the breakup of The Beatles.
