Legendary and timeless. People will be lauding over her a century from now.

I actually chuckled a little bit when he said “hopefully this will be more cheery“. There is nothing at all “cheery” about Nina Simone‘s music. Her music reminds me of a really good red wine. I love her music. Her pain is raw and real and comes from a place of reality for her. Nina was an angry woman, and rightfully so! She conveys her own struggle very well in her soulful music.

What you heard her singing at the end is called "scat" and many jazz vocalists use it. It isn't words, its ..... scat.
@readingwithauntlisa190
@readingwithauntlisa190 4 жыл бұрын
I think the idea behind scatting is having your voice be the instrument (with sound, not with words)... So it's just ALL emotion!

On the topic of scat... Do listen to some Ella Fitzgerald!

"invented" by Louis Armstrong during a performence because he knocked off his lyrics partitions when standing up to sing if I'm correct.

This is absolutely not 'scat' as applied by Simone.

@@jamesaaron7211 it's a matter of opinion mate, you can't say someone is wrong. Nina is my all time fave musician above all others I'm trans and named myself after her, when I came to thinking of a name, there was no debate in my mind. The highest tribute I can pay. Ella, Billie and Aretha are good, though they are no Nina, plus they all just sing, Nina was also an exceptional pianist, nuff said.

Oh, my god, man ! Thats incredible. I dont remember her voice at all . She really blew me away . This is raw classic blues . I can imagine her singing this in some juke joint down in the Delta back in the 30s, when Robert Johnson was making his mark. I dont care at all for the music. She should have done the whole song acapella. The first verse she did without music was amazing. I gotta hear some more of her singing.

Oh the dinner parties singing to Miss NS! Saw her live when she was in her 70s she came on stage and we gave a standing ovation for probably 5 minutes - no one wanted to stop. Eventually she started singing and she was absolutely brilliant. She was very big songwriter and important activist in the 60s civil rights movement: she wrote the anthem "To be Young, Gifted and Black", amongst many others. So glad you discovered her.

Scat sing is the vocal equivelant of improvising a solo,singing syllables like a horn player.And those were trombones that were the main horns you heard backing her on this tune,trumpets are used in the higher range..

she was an amazing woman. the word 'genius' is not often applied to women singers, but she certainly was imo. her ambition was to be a concert pianist [classical] but she wasn't able to fulfil that ambition, because she was black. i don't think that she ever got over that. in later interviews, she admitted to being deeply unhappy. she suffered from bi-polar disorder. that 'disorder' often inspires 'sufferers' to greatness. she was truly unique. the world will never see her like, again

I just discovered her a few months ago and play this song often to up my vibe!!! Her piano playing blew me away too. Watched the Netflix special and found she was classically trained and just wanted to be know for it her whole life. Her life story was from tragedy to hero to tragedy to hero. To honor her life desire she moved to Europe and played this song which mastered the combination or jazz, blues and classical music. I cried when hearing her dream come true. She was an absolutely amazing artist! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qLCJoLJqyrKvp4E.html
