Listen again and again, and you will never get tired of it. Pavarotti is the best tenor ever. He is a cathedral of singing, perfection, divine. His technic is flawless. He is always focused and transfers all the emotions of the aria, without being himself emotional and losing control. I have been listening to him for 40 years and I prefer his voice among all tenors I have listened to as well.

A wonderful reaction, beautiful even. The music aside, watching you experience this was a treat for me, just like the first time I heard it live as a young man. Pavarotti was the greatest tenor of his time, maybe ever. He creates a tapestry of intensity and emotion that envelops the listener, leaving no choice but enter his world and experience it with him. He was truly a blessing from heaven, and the pride of Italy. I think the lesson here for young people is to remain open to all kinds of music, it’s never clear when something will reach out and touch the heart.

Puccini ,who wrote this , was dying of cancer at the time , though he did not know, and never got to finish the opera ,Turandot ,from which this aria is from . The Choir has a large role in the opera and there are some great pieces in it ,and the last music he wrote in act 3 , just before and after Liu commits suicide is some of the most Heart breaking music , He makes the orchestra sound like it is weeping for Liu.

Even though I have heard this song more times then I can count I always get chills listening to Pavarotti. It always blows my mind to hear people say they hate classical music. I reply "try Pavarotti's Nessun Dorma". I believe my love of music came from my grandmother who was a pianist and classical train vocalist. She would take me to the symphony when I was 5 years old. Now I believe all music genre are important and beautiful.

Technically this is not even his repertoire as the tenor role of Calaf is fairly monstrous....this Aria is deceptively easy next to the rest of the opera. He had such an amazing voice that he pulled it off though as his interpretation of the role is one of the best, and of course, his concert renditions are almost second to none.

I enjoy these reaction videos the most, you respect the flow of the music to let the song flow without pausing and you listen to how the music makes you feel. That's the great thing about Opera, you don't have to understand what's being said, you go with the flow (so to speak) and feel the emotions as you are swept off on a journey of enlightenment. But at the very last minute the day of the show, he phoned producers and had to beg off because of a throat problem, and his doctor ordered him to rest it. Strapped without anyone to fill the hole in their schedule, and with the orchestra already rehearsed to perform the song, producers scrambled backstage and approached the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin. They knew she had performed the song at another show in town earlier in the week, and begged her to step in and fill in for Pavarotti. Despite her handlers strongly urging her not to do it (because the orchestra was rehearsed to play it in a key a bit outside her range), she agreed at the very last minute. The writer of this song, Lucio Dalla (from Bologna, northern Italy), wrote this while staying in one of the rooms where Enrico Caruso, former famous tenor (From Neaples, southern Italy), spent the final days of his life. Caruso was 48-years-old when he died, and a few years before Caruso died, he married Dorothy Park Benjamin who was 20 years younger. They had a baby girl they named Gloria.
