When Kevin came on board as their beatboxer 10 years ago he was a master cellist, played amazing sax, and piano. Before PTX he studied in China for 18 months in college thinking he was going to be a doctor working like a missionary because he was a pre-med student at Yale. He learned how to beat box and play his cello at the same time in China....called cello-boxing. He never had very much experience with the vocal singing. Avi, who was the original bass from 2011-2017 (now it's Matt who is on the left side of the screen), and Kevin lived together at the beginning of their careers with PTX and Avi was trained as a basso profundo....opera singing....so Avi was Kevin's singing tutor, but Kevin is all about the beatboxing in the group. He sings a little, but he is a very humble performer and everything he does he does for the good of the group, who he considers family. Upholding and supporting them is the most important role he feels he has. I admire his attitude. Very rare for an entertainer. Thank you for your reaction. Kevin is such a subtle gifted performer. He supports beautifully I suggest you watch their cover of Kiera’s “Gold”. They are sitting and singing live And you can really see and hear Kevin’s brilliance. As well as Mitch running up and down the scale in a way one music teacher reviewer said should be impossible. Also on Gold their timing with one another is a masterclass They became famous when Scott, Kirsty and Mitch were 19, Kevin was 23 and Avi 22. So all kinds of looks and hair colors for Mitch and Kirsty as they have changed and grown. From the beginning they have always tried to service the song. No lead singer ego , they work as a group.. Kevin does sing occasionally. He also occasionally plays cello while beatboxing with PTX. His solo cover of "Down" by Marian Hill is a must see.

I love Pentatonix's version of this song. I just listened to Disturbs version and I have to say It blew me away! So heavy, and beautiful at the same time. Both versions are so different and yet the same if that makes sense. If I have to choose who did the song the best, it is hard. I do choose Pentatonix, I just love their version so much more.

Everything PTX does is perfection. Imagine, Bohemian Rhapsody, are great. But the song they dropped last week, The Prayer, will transcend you. It is the very best they’ve done. You will not believe your ears. Kevin has a song of his own that showcases his many ( and he has many) talents. Try Down by Kevin. All of their Christmas stuff is beyond . Mary Did You Know, Dance of The Sugar Plum Fairy (for which they won one of three Grammys), and my favorite, Oh Come All Ye Faithful. Ear candy.

PTX doesn't do covers, they do upgrades!

I remember the first time I heard this. Multiple episodes of goosebumps! I've heard this many times since then and it still wows me.

It is amazing that PTX can deliver any song in a live performance just as well as the video. One thing especially good about PTX is they never record anything they can’t do in a live performance. (Kirstin changes her hair for every video also. lol)

Drummers are not supposed to be the focus they are support. Bass is usually support also. Those who carry the melody get the focus because.. the melody is the message. Sure you have exceptions but the fact that Kevin does not overperform his parts is a testament to his professionalism. Kevin does extra things in Havana and Radioactive you will appreciate. ..

New Rules are you that somebody and Shallow

When people compare Simon & Garfunkel, Disturbed and PTX, I don’t understand how they think Disturbed even comes close. I hear S&G and PTX and they take me to the same place. One is a harmony that is laid back and the other makes me feel like I can touch the stars. Disturbed is good but it takes me no where and leaves me flat. It’s something I can here from a really good local band covering this amazing song.

A response to a reactor once said, "They don't do covers, they do upgrades". I wholly agree with that sentiment, and this is one of the perfect examples. This is the first video of yours I've seen, so I don't know what you've done before, but Amazing Grace and Mary Did You Know are in the same vein.

Kevin Olusola is a musical genius! You may want to check out his solo 'KO' channel starting with his cover of "Down" and his "celloboxing"(beatboxing while playing the cello) in the Pentatonix covers of "Say Something" "Shallow" and "Perfect". There is also an old video of Kevin as a teenager in high school playing the saxophone at Carnegie Hall on You Tube-- Kevin Olusola "From The Top: Live From Carnegie Hall-2005". Thanks for the great reaction. Have you seen some of their original songs like “ Sing” “Can’t Sleep Love” “A Little Space” or “ Anchor”. They sang “Can’t Sleep Love” on the British show Sunday Brunch in 2015 and showed their lack of cooking skills.

Nice reaction. They are awesome! Kevin is a genius. He also plays the cello and Celloboxing, both cello and beat boxing at the same time. I suggest you do his cover of Down. It gives a look into what he can do. As for Pentatonix I suggest Imagine and Mad World. The first is older and still has Avi in it and the Mad World is newer and has Matt. Both are excellent!

I agreed with you about seeing more of Kevin, but after considering I think he doesn't want the camera on him too long because he doesn't want his methods for producing such incredible sounds like a beatbox or a whole drum kit revealed. The mystery adds to the sorcery of his contribution to the whole. Each one has a special contribution to make, but Kevin...well.
