This track usually takes me on a submarine journey when I hear it...across the sand willowing in the shallows, and out across the reefs into dangerous deep water with the whales, and then through a storm - with all the sounds from above echoing down to me under the water; where the only man-made sound is my submarine's sonar ping. When I hear the crescendo at the end, it's like the sub is surfacing up to the sunlight. Sometimes, the journey involves going through dark woods, and damp caves. That's the thing with Floyd...they've always been bloody good at giving you a canvas to paint your imagination onto.

I’ve just bought myself a new record turntable after not having one for about 30 years! Meddle was one of the first albums I bought to play on it. This song takes up the entire B side! It’s a trip! I would urge you to watch the boys singing it live at Pompeii. It’s in a Roman amphitheatre, just the band and their sound and film crew, no audience. It’s sublime. Watching David Gilmore making those sounds on his guitar…he’s incredible. And all the boys were seriously hot 🔥 back then..still are

The “scary part” is whales & birds talking…the song starts out underwater (“Everything is green & submarine”) and progresses to on land. If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times...when you world turns to shit and you've had a crappy day, you come home, pour a scotch (or similar), or glass of red, drink that offing it down. Then, pour another, woof that down too, then pour a third one and go turn off all the lights. Put THIS Pink Floyd record on. Go find a bean bag or deep leather couch, put your headphones on and sink down into your chair, close your eyes, sip away the final drink, and let the music sooth your soul !!!

Depends on the mood. The live at Pompeii version has more balls but the studio version is more „spacey“ if that makes sense. My personal favorite is the bootleg version of the 1975 tour with the saxophone instead of the guitar solo before the funk section. Incredible

Alright my scribby you just stepped in a real legendary masterpiece yeah you could do that whole album It's called Meddle. We used to play the song Fearless and that whole other side is just the even got us a song that's kind of like the Beatles were they do that old timey Style type music they actually did this per se live there was no audience they went to the ruins of Pompeii you know where that volcano went off and took out a whole civilization so yeah they set up in this big Coliseum and had the whole performance filmed and they have this movie in the theaters and it was called Pompeii anyhow there's this one song called Sheamus I don't know I should give away the plot but it's like he got your bottles next slide guitar playing a blues and they got this dog and they got him up on stage oh my God it is so effing hilarious yeah so you'll have to watch that movie and react to the other songs on this album if you had the actual vinyl record they have this really cool picture you open up the gate fold and all the Hombres are there you got David Gilmour guitarist Nick Mason drums Richard Wright keyboards Rodger Waters bass player extraordinaire yeah it's just this black and white picture and it is so freaking awesome I remember I had that album that I was in Manhattan Beach and I somehow I just wandered off into the backyard I had the album in my hand and I was just dreaming about other great music songs with just come into my mind you know it was like I realize the potential for good music was just non-stop it was just never going to quit so I thought back then oh contraire how naive I was ok Scribbly check u at the next MONSTER REACTIONE

It is like being picked up by a spacecraft and making a journey through space and then taken back to earth, and witnessing of it taking off and leaving. I have heard others using this scenario but exchanging the spacecraft for a submarine and an under sea, which is probably more appropriate. Regardless it's a journey. Listen to it again without interruptions to experience the full affect.

I first heard this at Birmingham town hall the year it came out. I was 16. The concert hadn’t been that good. There had been some boos and heckling as the audience didn’t want to hear the new stuff. You know the sort of thing that Roger Waters might write an album about later! Anyway from the first ping of Echoes the audience went quiet. As the song finished there was a quiet moment and then the place went mad. I’ll never forget it. Needless to say I went out and bought the LP and it’s been a favourite ever since. I always imagined it was about two lost souls looking for each other. At the end of the dreamlike sequence when the ping comes back there’s eventually an echo as if they’ve made contact and the song goes into the crescendo. I’m probably completely wrong but I’m just an old romantic lol

Funny story bout this song. Rock and Roll rumor has it that Stanly Kubrick approached Roger Waters to do the sound track to 2001: A Space Odyssey and Roger turned him down. It was said that it was one of Roger Water's greatest regrets. This is where the song comes in, if you sinc this to the end of 2001, its as if Pink Floyd wrote the sound track all along. This does a lot to explain the strange part in the middle, cause in the movie its when the main character is flying over some weird desolate alien planet. Thankfully some kind folk have already did the sinc for us. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hbl_obyjq8W1l6M.html

you should watch the David Gilmour concert live in Gdansk from 2006 it was the last time echoes was performed with keyboardist Richard Wright still alive who died two years later it was an absolutely amazing evening you really need to check that one out even if you just do it personally. Richard was such a deep quiet soul yes so passionate. After Richard a David Gilmour said they were certain songs he would never play again without Richard and this is one of them and he has been true to his word

Yaaassss. Can’t believe you actually listened to this. A classic of Prog Rock by one of the founding members of the genre. Glad you enjoyed it. Their music has to breath. It’s 🔥. Suggest you listen to Dark Side of the Moon, each side, 1 & 2. That, will be a vibe and a half.

A good grade LSD made this an adventure with headphones. Live it wasn’t as polished but the music literally picked you up, took you to another place, and set you down two hours later. Best of the best.
