When soul and rock meets the chillness of elevator music. Welcome to the coolest waiting room in town! Steely Dan are legends who were perfectionists of the sound they created. I think he can't deal with aging. He mentions back when he was popular with the college age girls. Now he's still trying to be with them but the age difference keeps reminding him that he's not a young man anymore. The alcohol and pot at the end ease the pain of knowing he's growing old. He even says "I'm just growing old" in the song.

Steely Dan is a band, but is primarily Donald Fagan and Walter Becker. Those two wrote all the music... Donald plays keys and sings while Walter plays guitar. They were notorious for bringing in session musicians while recording their albums and testing out a million different people before getting the sound they want. Colombia had decriminalized marijuana for a while, and then around the 60s and 70s the US started to get in on trafficking (along with other things, but afaik asking for 'Colombian' back then was asking for weed, this is from the mouths of guys who lived it. Steely Dan was Donald Fagen on keyboards and Walter Becker (we lost him in 2017) on bass. Other than that, many great musicians rotated through on different albums. Have fun in the rabbit hole! Kid Charlemagne, Haitian Divorce, Babylon Sisters, Don't Take Me Alive, Home At Last, The Boston Rag....and many more.

Another fabulous group that I love. I especially love Don Fagen's voice, the lead here, but he's not the only lead singer. You can't go wrong reacting to any Steely Dan song. They were are hits in my opinion. "Reelin' in the Years" was a hugely popular song.

Interesting fact. Chevy Chase from Saturday Night Live and the National Lampoon movies was in a Jazz band in college called The Leather Canary with the 2 guys who created Steely Dan

Listen to the entire Aja album. Came out when I was a senior in high school. One of my all time favorites. I always said if I had a daughter, I would name her Aja. I had three sons.
