I was around 14 when this magic happened. This song was played all over the World. I remember the day of 28th of March of the 1996, like over 6.000 radio stations all over the planet, played the song simultaneously at 10:15am. I remember in schools (Italy) when they told us that the song would have been played all over the planet and it is been so... It has been the biggest moment of unification that I ever lived in my life. Something that is just utopia, a dream, at the day of today... I'm so glad that I'm coming from that era. Quincy Jones, Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie materialized a masterpiece that night in L.A. This song has been made for charity. All those superstars went for free to spend the night in a studio to record the song. Some of them arrived there straight from the Americans awards etc .. They all left just when the job was done in the morning. No financial compensation for that long amazing job that they did. A support to Africa, that's it. There is a fantastic documentary (presented by Jane Fonda) that shows that magical night. Whoever is attracted by this song and wants to know more, I suggest to watch that documentary.

All these people were my childhood heroes, especially MJ and Diana Ross. I hardly hear voices like this anymore, but I know they are out there. Just the focus is on different kind of music. I remember getting permission from my mom to donate to this when it was televised. Simpler days, but we were all there for a worthy cause.

Thanks for this video brings back memories. This was the musical dream team of mostly 80's, 70's and some 60's and 50's musicians and there were plenty more from that era that did not perform but that's because these were selected from mostly pop, R&B, and a few rock and country singers. This was a very rich diverse talent assembly than has ever been done and has not been done since and for a great cause.

This is one of my favorite videos to watch people react to. This was an incredible collection of the best of the best, leaving their egos at the door and coming together for a common cause. No race, no politics, no gender. Just talent caring about the world. I miss the 80s. It was the generation before the "me" generation took over. The closest thing to equality we were able to manage.

Besides the fact that the greatest musical artists actually had talent...every one of these legends came to this set immediately after awards show (think about it...AWARDS SHOW!!!!!!!!!!!) Honestly, I love new and great music and artistry and support it 110%...but this video is on a whole mother level!!!!!!!

Truly a legendary performance by some of the best musical artists of the 80's and earlier. I challenge anyone to listen to this and not get goosebumps or shed a tear at the beauty of the music, the voices, and the verses. The message holds true today. "We are the world, we are the children. . . " We ARE the change we wish to see in the world, even if it's a simple gesture of kindness. I hope that future generations will continue to listen to this and heed the call to help one another. If you have not heard the original Band Aid, Do They Know It's Christmas Time, 1984, give it a listen. An incredible lineup of British, Irish, and Scottish musicians. Bob Geldof who organized the original Band Aid makes an appearance in this video as well as a backup singer, though is generally uncredited as are so many others who comprised the chorus.

Prince was invited to do a solo line, but he refused. He did, however, contribute a song to the disc. The whole ROOM is full of legends from the 60's on through the 80's. The "WHO IS THAT??" guy is Bruce "The Boss" Springsteen. He alone has a ton of hits, and has a VERY distinctive voice. Diana Ross was with a little Motown band you might have heard of called "The Supremes". Dionne Warwick's cousin was Whitney Houston. Most of the backing (chorus) people you may have heard of too - Bette Midler ("Wind Beneath My Wings"), Harry Belafonte ("Day-O", "Jump in the Line"), actor Dan Aykroyd (of "Ghostbusters" and "Driving Miss Daisy" fame), most of MJ's brothers and sisters, Lindsey Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac, John Oates (part of Hall & Oates - Daryl Hall was one of the soloists), and Sheila E (hit it big in the 80's in her own right.) Also, the conductor was the producer Quincy Jones, who also produced this song, as well as MJ's "Off the Wall", "Thriller" and "Bad" albums. I'd second checking out "Do They Know it's Christmas?", which came out before this song, and was created by huge 80's stars in the UK (Duran Duran, Culture Club, Phil Collins, Spandau Ballet, Paul Young and many others.)
