Correct, this is NW's current drummer, Kai Hahto. He subbed in when NW's previous drummer Jukka, was forced to take time off (and eventually leave being an active member) due to severe insomnia. Kai was NW's touring drum technician at the time and friend of the band, so made sense for him to step in. He's fkn insane, you should suss out his drumcam videos.

I always find it cool how Nightwish fans tend to love Wintersun and vice versa. Even though they are a fair bit different. I count myself lucky enough to have fallen into this terrific category years ago. Enjoy both bands, both are awesome.

Funny thing is that the more mellow Eternal Wait from Ensiferum got me on journey from Nightwish and Sonata Arctica to Ensiferum and from there to Wintersun, Amorphis, Insomnium Arch Enemy, etc and my metal world exploded so I finally came to enjoy not Death Metal but all kind of genres in metal. Once got past that initial aversion for screaming and growling and understand that the voice not only trasmits a message or beautiful melody and it is actually seen as an additional Instrument your musical world just expands to near endlessness (in most Melodic Death Metal songs the Guitars replace the voice line melodies while the voice is distorted like a heavy guitar). But to come back to my initial message sometimes it just takes one song to get you on a journey (speaking of journey, check out "Shylmagoghnar - Journey through the Fog" or "Windir - Journey to the End"). Keep on posting this quality content \m/

"Is it over??" Ha ha. It's funny you said something about giving one energy and feeling like you're going to conquer. Every car ride to work last winter I had this band on, waking up my brain in the cold gray morning and preparing for my every day battles 😀😀. They're amazing. For another great Finnish mental band, you can check out Amorphis - for example songs The Bee, Amongst Stars, Death of a King - official music videos.

I love Wintersun so much. I was introduced to them when they opened for Arch Enemy. They played a solid hour. The entire venue went insane. It was one of the best shows I have ever seen. I need a Nightwish/Wintersun tour asap.

I was walking with my headphones on once and it started snowing just as the starting notes of Loneliness set in. I had the overwhelming urge to lay down and cry. Wintersun just does that to you.

Jari lost half of his lungs due to an infection with TBC while he served in the finnish army. That happened while he played with Ensiferum. And He still sounds like this...

you start to see hwy we recommend the bands over and over...there are so many bands out there doing amazing stuff. Yes that is Kai he has been the drummer for Nightwish since 2014 and has been having a lot of fun with them as he is a very technical drummer and has loved the learning involved in replacing a drummer. He said contrary to popular opinion Jukkas patterns proved very tricky even for him if not as relentless as Wintersun.

btw the singer jari was in the finnish army and he lost 25% of his lung from tuberculosis and he does those screams right also kai the drummer he's was a back up drummer for nightwish now he full time b/c the other drummer had insomia problems. Btw you should listen to the forest that weeps(summer) or loneiness(winter) the new album is legit awesome.

I got my classical only wife to listen to Nightwish and after she caught a reaction to this song by either Tank or Charismatic, she started listening to the song and now is hooked on the whole album and finding ways to listen to the "noise". It must be that some euro metal is influenced by classical in some way

I said it would be epic! 🤘🏼😄 Kai is beast with drums. Jari Mäenpää is mastermind behind the band. Wintersun started as his soloproject when he was kicked out from Ensiferum, because Wintersun was taking too much time from him. Is that Jari's last name?? If I'm not mistaken, that's not a normal Finnish name. Does he have a different background? Edit: my bad. "Small hill". Just would expect to see something like "Mäenpään" but I'm not an expert.

WintersunExtras channel has every isolated instrument and a version without synth orchestrations. You’ll find that it is written with the orchestra in mind. With out it? It sounds empty Wintersun bandcamp has the isolated tracks too

If you like Wintersun, you like Insomnium, its brother. In style, I mean, they aren't connected as far as I know, except by their country of origin, Finland. Also Dark Tranquility, a Swedish melodeath band. I'm not sure what to recommend, there is too much, but I trust others will find good suggestions. I'd just remember these names if I were you. :D
