For me Wintersun is one of those bands that you dont listen casually or in background... it requires a special focus and mood to get into the songs.

Wintersun is one of the few bands left from my early metal years which I'm still listening today, and just like you their riffs still put a dreamy smile on my face. It's very satisfying to see that at 2:57

The drummer is really something, btw. his name is Kai Hahto and there are a couple of drumcam videos of him on youtube - just in case you are interested. He is also the temporary drummer of Nightwish and he used to play in Swallow the Sun. If you ever want to check out some doom/death, Swallow the Sun - Cathedral Walls is probably worth to take a look (he was their drummer at the time they recorded that).

I listen to songs by wintersun in my car on my way to shop, and i refuse to go out before the song ends, to my taste these guys are perfection. Jari mäenpää is a genius and that combined with a godly drummer Kai hahto.. What more could you ask.

Wintersun is arguably my favorite band ever and this was the first song I ever heard from them and I was blown away. I've seen them three times and they play it every time. Their drummer Kai Hahto is a good buddy of mine and one of my favorite drummers. This song is extremely complex on drums. He's fucking unreal dude and he NAILS EVERYTHING live. Jari (vocalist) is in my youtube photo. I hung out with them every day on 70000 Tons of Metal 2015 and they are the nicest dudes. Jari and Kai are a riot together. First show they played on that cruise, they opened with this and then I pretty much lost my voice for the entire cruise and that was on the second day. They have a new guitar player so they're now a 5 piece with Jari only doing vocals live. If you ever get a chance to see them, YOU SHOULD SEE THEM! Really glad you dig them, man!

They play these songs live, yeah. They are incredible live. They have a lot of long songs. But also many shorter ones. It is my favorite band, BY FAR. And I don't think anyone else could ever top them. They have two albums and a new album coming out in july.

Fun fact, prior to their latest release that came out a short while after this was uploaded, they literally opened every single show with this, and it's a staple of their live set. So yes, it gets performed live quite regularly lol.

I've seen them live last month on the 28th in Tilburg (NL) and they played this song live. Granted not with Kai behind the drums, as he is touring with Nightwish currently, but man..such an epic and euphoric feeling does this give when hearing this live! They are absolutely amazing and incredibly talented musicians. In my opinion one of the most underrated epic Scandinavian death metal bands ever.

It was really one take. The drummer is Kai Hahto - IMO one of the top five heavy metal drummers in the world. He's got used to lot higher tempos than that (his former band rotten sound played grindgore). He has also played in Swallow the Sun and currently in Nightwish. Even in Nightwish he looks like that while playing, so it wasn't pain but commitment and love ... and lot of sweat :D He has studied the method called Alexander technique that gives you tools to play drums with very energy saving and ergonomic way. What I like about Kai is his way of playing. Not only accurate and very technical but very groovy, dynamic and musical, even with this kind of music and high tempos. He also plays other styles - you name it: rock, blues, jazz and even light (finnish) pop music. And one of the nicest persons I have ever met.

Love this band, drummer is also one of the best in Finland, also played on Nightwish on the last year(or tour, cant remember), after their drummer had to take long sick vacation cos of the sleep disorder!

me and my bud saw them live 2 weeks ago with arch enemy, jinjer, tribulation and wintersun. they got the spirits up for sure. very technical style.

Their drummer, Kai Hahto is basically the go-to Metal drummer in Finland. He is absolutely insane and they do play this song at every show! It may seem like he is struggling due to the sweat (and it definitely isn't easy to get through) but he has incredible endurance when it comes to this stuff.

They played this song in every single show in their current tour (although with a different drummer, since Kai Hahto was injured) and when I saw them, they were fucking magnificent. They are just that good.

Saw them 3 years ago. Absolutely fucking amazing, probably the best show I ever saw. They indeed played this song and all Time I album plus most songs from the first album. They didn't break a sweat and the sound was perfect from start to fin(n)ish.

If you really like this stuff, then I can highly recommend Jari's (the singers) previous band Ensiferum, especially the first two albums where he was involved. There are loads of songs to choose from, but Token of Time and Windrider are two of my favorites!

You should also check out "Winter madness" from these guys, it has the best solo I've ever heard from any band. They also do perform these super long songs live frequently, however that drummer is not going to get fat any time soon.

Wintersun rocks! They're great live. About vocals, many singers use "vocal drive" and rip their vocal chords cuz they don't do it properly. "Drive" is like the distortion in a guitar, but in the voice, making the "growling/screaming". Wintersun's vocalist studied Music, he goes from melodic to drive voice easily and smoothly. React to "Loneliness (Winter)" by Wintersun from the album "The Forest Seasons", divided in season's like Vivaldi''s. It goes from aggressive to melodic Metal.

"Sons Of Winter And Stars" could be the unofficial anthem of the Wild Hunt from the Witcher 3.

Do you know that Jari, the guitarist & main composer for WIntersun, said in a recent interview that the way Time I was put together, was a huge compromise, as compared to the way it was originally planned. In other words, it was meant to be something more grandeous than what it already sounds! :O

Listening to this song off the album, with good headphones and eyes closed - the closest thing to magic I've come across in a long while. The whole album is a masterwork of arrangements and songwriting. There's so much damn shit going down - at all times! All hail the mighty Jari!

I've seen them twice and both time they performed this song live and it has been absolutely amazing! The song "The Way Of The Fire" hasn't been released yet, but it has been played a lot of times live and I hope you can find a good quality video of it and it's possible more amazing than this song. It has multiple solos and one of them in particular (towards the end) simply blows my mind every time.

To answer your question, YES they do play the long songs at their concerts. In fact most of their songs are quite long, so I guess they have no other choice. :) The one thing they've been doing recently is that Jari doesn't play the guitar during the concerts, so he can focus on the vocals. And yes ... poor drummer :( If you haven't seen them live you totally should, it's magnificent what these guys can do on stage.
