Yes are an English progressive rock band formed in London in 1968. The band has undergone numerous line-up changes throughout its history, up to nineteen musicians have been full-time members. They have had a lot of great songs such as "Owner Of A Lonely Heart", "Going For The One", "Masquerade", "Heart Of The Sunrise", "The Gates Of Delirium", "And You & I", "Starship Trooper", "I've Seen All Good People" etc.

YES, "YOURS IS NO DISCRACE". Sarah, I've watched your reactions for what seems like an eternity. Just am so impressed by your love for the great iconic music of yesteryear. I would agree with the assessment of this song. There are so many songs that the Music and arrangements are up beat. Then when you hear, and understand the lyrics it seems to be quite the opposite. I guess it's what make those songs so great. Lovely reaction. 🎶

Christine Robinson said it well: Anderson chooses lyrics without regard for expressing meaning, but rather, simply because they sound good together. "Close to the Edge" was a stellar example of this kind of artistic lyricism. It's so cool to see you swept away by the music.

Oh, it’s Yes doing an anti-Vietnam war song. Contrasting those who “played” at Caesar’s Palace casino with those off to a futile war in a distant place in the early 70s 😊 Oh, you get it halfway thru. Well done! Many don’t ❤🎉

Great to see you getting lost in the music again Sarah. Good luck interpreting Jon Anderson's lyrics; I never could be sure what his mystical/spiritual points of view were, other than beautiful&powerful. I saw Yes several times in the early/mid '70s, and they performed their complex oeuvre as well live as on their lps... Only Emerson, Lake, & Palmer (ELP) and Jethro Tull were similarly impressive IMO. Peace&Love

One of the most important things concerning YES is that they are always playing in a very groovy and rock kind of prog music, they never lost the feeling for the roots of it all. I also love all of the other Prog Bands, just to name Genesis, but Yes are a value of it's own, that's why they are my favorite prog band up to 1972. Prog needs to be groovy and funky or - on the other hand - very fusion and kinky, like vdgg or magma. YES are sometimes this, sometimes that.

I’ve seen you do CTTE and possibly Gates of Delirium (hard to keep up with so many reactions); but can I urge you to try later incarnations on the Drama album; the 90125/Big Generator albums, and the last true and soul-affecting album they did (and on this version re-released with the Drama lineup who wrote it in 1980)… the wonderful Fly From Here but make sure it’s the “Return Trip” version with the Drama lineup in full and released after bassist Chris Squire died (but which retains his baselines and harmonies)? Only Cynthia Ambrose has touched that and she did the original and not the Return Trip release. Sorry they are so complicated. But that’s half the appeal ❤🎉

Dont try to decipher the lyrics on Yes songs you wont get anyehere lol. Caesars palace is a Casino in Las Vegas. I believe this song was inspired by John's view of some types people spending there money gambling. Its fascinating to me to learn where song writers get thier lyrics from. if that interests you then listen to some of The Guess Who music and Bachman Turner Overdrive (BTO) then watch the Video Vinyle Tap. Randy Bachman explains how some of the songs came about. Its a real interesting watch

You got like 99% of it! Most don't. I take "winter" to be "nuclear winter". If the war causes once side to use its nukes, then the other side uses theirs in retaliation. The band is not putting any blame on the soldiers for that action ("yours is no disgrace"), the blame belongs to those who started the war, and the generals who just move things around a chessboard with no regard for those who are fighting and dying.

@@SarahDengler @Ronald Morgan You nailed it, both of you. For once Anderson was writing about current events in fact: he said in an interview that Yours Is No Disgrace was written in 1971 on behalf of soldiers who were getting so much hate upon their return from Vietnam, saying they were not to blame for the madness& lies of the leaders that sent them off to fight a dirty war. Sarah, when in the middle of the reaction you sort of murmured "Ah, this is about war," I was like, "Holy shit, she got it!" Even a lot of hardcore Yes fans still don't know this. A lovely display of intuition there. And Robert, I never thought of that nuclear winter angle, but I like it! (Correction: written in 1970)

Whoever created this mix intentionally boosted the bass the to the detriment of the rest of the players on the song. I'm a great fan of Chris Squire, one of rock's all time monster musicians, but it annoys me when internet fuckwits mess with musical perfection, as if they know what's best. Buy the Yes Album, plug in your headphones and listen to the masterpiece as it was meant to be heard. You can thank me later.
