I have been living in Sweden for exactly a year and a half. This is the first time I have felt homesick. This video covers the things I miss the most about America. I am however, very grateful to be living in Sweden. I think it is only normal that one would miss certain things when one moves abroad.

Hey bro... I really love your videos, nice to see an update again... So, one thing you miss about America is MEXICAN food ... that is LOL in a big way !!!! Next, regarding meeting up with friends, yes this is something that drives me nuts as well since returning back to Sweden. Swedes are SOOO socially handicapped + emotionally constipated, that it's almost impossible to be spontaneous in this country. Everything has to be planned (even the unplanned things in life). Having lived in some Latino countries, I prefer that spontaneous, friendly laid-back approach, being able to simply meet up after a quick phone call, or just walking past the house Then, the parking is not a typical Swedish problem, all countries I have lived in around Europe seem to have the same problem in bigger cities. And in every place I am surprised that there are no exceptions for crucial services. For example, in the UK nurses have to pay HUGE parking fees just to be able to go to work and assist patients (not compensated or discounted in any way), whilst they at the same time are almost working for minimum wage, not fair!! In any case, keep up the KZfaq work, looking forward to the next post.

Thanks for the encouragement. I did not realize it was so bad with nurses in the UK!!! 😱

@@becurious2000 Well people (not only the nurses themselves) got SOO upset about the situation that they pressured the UK government to urgently resolve the situation, so it has been changed in some hospitals now, but there are still some that have not removed it....

I did not really understand what you meant by open spaces, while I picture it is more like deserts in texas I though open fields in skåne could be similarly lacking people if one needed to get away. But maybe that is not what you meant? :) Food seems very fun in different parts of the world, I try to make some different things at home from time to time, but it obviously does not turn out very good all the time, at least compared to people who know what they are doing, haha.

😂 yea I i wish I had some good b roll footage about the wide open spaces. I had some cool drone footage but could not find it. But as a little clarification, things are spaced a little farther apart and you don’t feel so cramped. However it comes with its own disadvantages also…. Being that you have to drive to most places since things are not so close together. There are pros and cons. I think for me … with Aspergers… I sometimes feel a little overwhelmed and overstimulated and need some space from time to time.

Hearing what you miss I as a swede can say yeah ok that sounds normal, personally when I want to get out of the city a bit I get in my boat or on my motorcycle. Also a small tip, most type of peppers like jalapeno is super easy to grow yourself in the window, they like a bit of southern facing windows but you could also just get a grow light. About planning hangouts, that is something I think comes a lot with age and other comittments in life and not all plan that long ahead ;)

The drive-through, pick up meals isn't big here, unless you talk about burgers or pizza, as you've noticed Have you looked in the fridge/frozen sections in the grocery stores for ready made, easy to heat meals? That might be an option. For breakfast, check with the hotels and see if you can buy a breakfast buffé ticket, ICA MAXI where I live have a breakfast buffé in the mornings, or on the weekends some eateries have brunch. Not the same as an American breakfast though, more continental type fare but still an option - or get yourself a waffle iron, some waffle mix, a pack of frozen nuggets and a jug of syrup ;)

When I lived in Tokyo back in the late 1980s, I missed peanut butter. I almost accidentally purchased brown Miso once, thinking it was peanut butter, but a friendly Japanese student asked if I was thinking it was PB, and she informed me I would have been in for a big surprise. Being from SoCal and Arizona, I also missed Mexican food. I wound up making my own (chicken chile), including the flour tortillas (using a 4' dorm-size fridge top as my counter, an empty wine bottle as my rolling pin, and a wok as my 'comal'). When some of the American teachers heard I'd made my own tortillas, they begged me to make them for them. No way...way too labor intensive. Flour tortillas only need flour water and a fat...I wound up using butter because it was readily available (vs. lard). If you can ever find Masa Harina to make corn tortillas, all you need it water. Your cast iron skillet would be perfect for cooking them up.

Fascinating. I finally found blue massa corn flour for tortillas here and a tortilla press... looking forward to give it a shot soon.
@MTimWeaver
@MTimWeaver Жыл бұрын
@@becurious2000 An actual tortilla press? Now that is a find!! I never had much luck with corn tortillas as I could never find just the right water/masa ratio and they always came out either too dry and became crumbly, or too wet and I couldn't press them properly. I prefer flour tortillas, anyway, so it all worked out. Maybe you can do a video on it once you've had a couple of successes. :)

I saw the title and thought directly food. That was an important thing for me when I was abroad. Helsingborg is not the best place for tranqile nature experiences. That was my reason for leaving that town. Sweden have a lot of nice nature, just not around there. One place I really enjoy around there is Kullaberg, have you been there yet?

Oh yes.. coming from Texas and end up in Helsingborg must be a big challenge! Dont even ask for storms/hurricanes.. becus about every 10 year we got those, realy hard winter snow storms! It almoste aplyes for Skåne mostly.. storm and a meter of snow.. then one can complain about dificulitys of driving a car! In anyway, I read about swedes in US.. they saying, there is no knäckebröd, sill or Kalles caviar, in the stores.. and they cant even make pancakes in this country! And to make friends and to be a bit spontaneus.. try this at summer!

I never miss any kind of food - I make it myself! Sure its pricey and time consuming, but if you got the craving... Roll up the sleves and get going! You should know by now that in Sweden, fast food is not really a thing as it is in the US. Here people get a living wage, which means you have to actually pay for the fast food and we are not willing to do that! But honestly look at the prices in the US, its kind of pricey to go out and eat, unless you go to the mega-corps like McD, Taco Hurl and so on, but even then... its kind of pricey... I think you still have rose tinted glasses on and think of the convenience of eating out. Dang I miss SE Asia... there its good and cheap to eat!
