Do you know if it's possible to get a stipend from that course as an European citizen? I know it's definitely possible with full degrees. How were your colleagues supporting themselves financially there throughout the programme?

That’s a great question. I really do not know. I heard the European citizens studied without paying. Most took out loans, did food deliveries, or lived off saved money.

The Lake Whitney story is a one off. Texas is 800 miles EW and 800 NS. The state has a population of 30.5 million. Just because Lake Whitney is run-down does not mean that all the rural areas are run down. The rural areas are now brand new suburbs with people who just showed up in Texas 30 days ago.

I see your point and I get ya. It is a big state with a lot of people. However, if you take a look at the KZfaq channel @havekayakswilltravel you will see lots of evidence of many rundown rural areas. I watch their channel a lot, it is pretty cool to watch them travel around to all the cities in Texas. I was just out in the rurals here in Sweden today where I now live and I was amazed with just how clean everything is and well maintained here. No old rusty cars rotting out in the front yards or trash blowing around. I am not sure if you have had an opportunity to visit the Scandinavian countries to see just how clean and well maintained they are. I have been all over Texas and it tends to be pretty rundown in many towns when compared to places like in the European countryside. I am sure money has a lot do with it but I think also the culture has a lot to do with it. For example, I saw a lot of people just throw trash out the window and litter in America. In fact my father ended up in the ER because some idiot threw a glass bottle out of the car in front of him on the road and since he had his window down as he had an old classic chevy with no AC, the glass bounced up off the road in pieces and cut his eye open. I had someone throw a nasty cup out their car window in Fort Worth as I was walking by and it hit me in the face. This lack of respect for nature and others is pretty rare in Scandinavia. Those that do litter in Sweden are usually foreigners who do not know how to clean up after themselves. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that I live here now and see what Texas could be.

Temp portable buildings make sense. Texas has become an economic waystation for the U.S. middle class. People show up in Texas' big cities because they have already lived in Florida and then Atlanta and then Charlotte. They live in Texas for a few years, and then show up in Pheonix. No reason to build permanent buildings for a temporary situation.

@becurious2000
@becurious2000 13 күн бұрын
Great question. We don’t make 3 x as much actually. I made as a general nurse about 25 percent more than in Sweden. Plus we don’t get shot at in Swedish hospitals, stress levels are lower, and there is more to life than money. I loss several coworkers to suicide in America from the stress and depression. People are sue happy in America and want to sue you just for looking at them a certain way- that does not exist here in Sweden. I actually have a video posted on that if you want to give it a look. Thanks for the question. I actually get asked this a lot. ☺️

@@becurious2000 thanks for your response! glad that you found your place:) also what's the average salary for nurses in sweden? because there are only random numbers on the internet
@becurious2000
@becurious2000 12 күн бұрын
@@LeaveMeAloneBleez I am getting 37,000 kronor per month which is roughly 3,600 dollars give or take. But there is a lot that comes with that. For example I get 5 weeks paid vacation per year plus sick pay, so you have to average that into the pay as well which increases the amount significantly. In America we got on average 10 days vacation which were used for our sick days as well. In Sweden we get a shoe allowance, they pay half my moving fees when I move to a new apartment, college is subsidized by taxes, I don’t need to purchase health insurance which cost me over 400 dollars a month in Texas. And even if you have insurance in America you still have to pay a portion of the cost which usually ended up being for me about 10 percent of the total cost. If you have children there are a slew of benefits for children like daycare. In America you just about have to have another job just to pay for daycare ( and worry about your kids getting shot in school). In America the salary varies widely by the state one lives. I know in Sweden I can get more but I have only been in Sweden 3 years and am new to the Swedish language. Once my Swedish is better that will open a lot of doors for me in the future. I am applying for my specialist license which should increase my pay to 40,000-43,000 Swedish kronor per month.

My condolences! In practise one is prepared.. but newer emotionaly! However.. pratical things.. in all places that have a "kollektivavtal" = collective agreement, one get minimum 2 days of payd leave, for attending "realatives funeral", its a broad spectrum of relatives, even ones spouses relatives! Its this.. that you mayby have learned.. one need to talk to the HR personel as soon as posible.. espeicialy about changing of plans!

@@becurious2000 I do belive that you alredy got a grasp about Swedish thinking? In anyway those two days payd leave is part of your salary/your collective agreement! Becuse its set up in old time.. for people that lives in Sweden! Friday to travle, Saturday for meating relatives, Sunday for funeral, Monday for travle back home! In anyhow those four days dont gonna make it for you.. minimum a week, preferably two weeks? You thought that you would travle trou Europe this year..change of plans.. its still this, talk to your HR personel, your boss, your colleges! In anyway.. even if your HR personel get disturbed.. you dont get fired! Another thing, if one is a son or daughter, one need to atend "bouppteckningen".. I cant find any good translation to English/America.. " I enlighet med denna ordlista kan jag hitta att den rätta översättningen av bouppteckning är estate inventory eller estate inventory deed och översättningen av bouppteckningsförrättning är estate inventory proceedings eller drawing up of an estate inventory."! lawline.se/answers/juridiska-termer-pa-engelska Iallafall/anyhow as a son or daughter one supose to be at that meating, in some collective agreements, you can get two more payd days, in others one get "free days of"!

@@stiglarsson8405 wow! I really appreciate this information. This is very helpful. I was sent home yesterday as I had a panic attack and started having chest pain. The work situation is not sustainable currently with the nursing strike and people taking vaccinations. I was expected to do 4 days of work in 1 while the strike goes on and people are on vacation… on top of that , dad died. I broke down yesterday so they told me to go home and take care of myself. I am so worried about my colleagues and the patients. But it is what it is. The doctor wants me to call in sick at least a week as I am having off and on chest pain especially giving that might be what killed my dad at work. So I have Sjukanmälanält mig so I can recover.

@@becurious2000 I try to tell and interpret how it works in Sweden, in your case as an American! Its a bit different, we do have labor laws, thats minimum, but instead we have "collective agreement laws".. its those that regulate working conditions and minimal wage for every branch! Its more about minimal wage and how much benefits! However moste other in your situation would have a breakdown.. you is an experienced nurse, when your doctor tell you to call in sick.. you kinda know if its nececery or not! And get rid of that US hype.. I gonna go to my work even if its kill mee! Its rather US stereotypes.. if one call in sick one lose ones jobb.. if one work a whole life in the same company without any sick days, they gonna send some flowers to your funeral when you dies! Take your time and think more swedish.. you still probably have to use a big shunk of your payd vacation days to atend funeral and the rest.. you only have to talk to HR, your colleges !

@@stiglarsson8405 ya know I was joking with a few here that I inherited my dad and his dads work ethic. Hopefully I don’t die in the job too. A little dark humor… but yea it’s a big adjustment for me. My dad took me to work since I was 8 years old so working hard is kind of built into me. I think the other issue is I worry about people… my colleagues and the patients… especially the patients. We have a shortage of healthcare professionals in Sweden which affects patient care. But this problem seems to be universal in all countries, not sure why that is.

Do you have anyone to talk to or get a hug from, here? I hope you do. Personally I believe in a soul so I am sure he is with you here just as much as with your people in texas now but still ... And I know there's a strike and everything but I am still pretty sure they can't deny you a couple of days off if you loose a parent. If you feel you need it.
