Nice reaction! I'm Japanese. Please excuse my poor English. The other two are not back-up chorus or back-up dancers. In Babyametal's songs, the choreography is as important as the vocals. Each Babyametal song is a kind of theatrical work created by the song, dance and band. Therefore, each song has a completely different style. The choreographer of Babyametal is one of the producers of the Tokyo Olympics, without whom Babyametal would not have been possible. DragonForce participated in the production of "Road of Resistance". They did not participate in the performance of this concert. However, Babyametal has performed with DragonForce once.

You had a question about lip syncing. For the lead singer, the answer is a definite NO!! She does not lip sync and never has. Yui and Moa were lip syncing in the very early days but have sung live since I believe 2012..? If you want to hear Yui and Moa sing, check out their Black Babymetal songs. Sis Anger, Onedari Daisakusen, GJ, and 4 No Uta. I recommend watching Sis Anger first. For a song you might not like, I'll vote for 'Oh Majinai'. I like the song myself but I have a feeling you will feel differently. Check it out. I'm not sure about the best link to use.

Great reaction - and honesty is always best, we don't need sugar coating or arse kissing. Yes their shows are fully choreographed (Moa finds places to improvise and to mess with Su, to pull faces at the drummer, to interact with the crowd and so on despite that). "DragonForce eat your heart out" I had to smile - Herman Li and Sam Totman wrote the guitar arrangements and played on the studio recording for the album version for this song. They have said they never thought they would have to play oit live so they made it faster and more technical than many of their own songs - so when they were asked to play it with BABYMETAL at an awards show in London in 2015 they had to practice hard. Su is lead vocalist, Yui and Moa provided backing vocals and harmonies for the most part. Like Su has solos without them they also had 2 songs on each of the first two albums that they would perform as a duo (known as Black BABYMETAL) without Su. You would like 'Sis Anger', I suspect you would not like '4 No Uta' ... not yet anyway, but in time ... The choreo serves a couple of real purposes, they are not just dancing for the sake of it (we tend to associate choreo with pop acts in the west and for the most part they are mincing about and wiggling their arses to fill the stage and to give us something to watch to keep our minds off the bland music ... this is not what BABYMETAL are doing). First off - the choreo is mostly interpretive, it is related to the lyrics or the meanings of the songs, so it helps to interpret what the song is about for those of us who don't speak Japanese. Secondly (and perhaps the most important aspect) - the choreo is designed to include the audience. At certain points in songs people will feel like jumping, headbanging, doing something ... Yui and Moa lead that with their choreo, they basically tell the audience "jump now", "make this gesture", "sing along with this bit" etc. In Japan it is known as "ai no te" and BABYMETAL are absolute masters of crowd control. NO, there is no lip sync, whoever told you that lied to you. Su has always sung everything live (I guess some people just can't believe she is so good that she can sound pretty much perfect while dancing too). One way you can tell she is always live ... in the studio recordings her vocals are over-produced, her natural vocals in live shows are much better. Yui and Moa may have help from a backing track for when the choreo is particularly strenuous but they were singing live for a lot longer than they were given credit for, even by the fans. BABYMETAL do use backing tracks for their songs with additional vocals (eg growls and screams) and additional instruments like synths, piano, strings etc. There are certain places in certain songs that are on the backing track, but they are obvious and no pretence is made - eg when Su is behind the fox mask during 'Megitsune', the spoken part in 'IDZ', the "parapapa parapapa" in 'Gimme Chocolate', the part of 'Doki Doki Morning' when they lie on the stage pretending to be asleep ... Unless it is part of the choreo Su doesn't even hold the mic to her mouth for those parts never mind lip syncing. You were spot on with Yui's and Moa's age, way off with Su's. This was January 2015, they were 15, Su turned 17 just a month or so earlier.

It is also common for a harmony vocal, by Su, to be included on the backing track as it is here on RoR. I think that leads some people to (incorrectly) think lipsync.

Lots of metal bands use backing tracks. Including vocal tracks. But Babymetal seem to be targeted for this. Asked about his appreciation for the Japanese pop metal act BABYMETAL, Rob Zombie said: "I saw them the other day for the first time. I mean, I'd seen videos and stuff, but I saw them live for the first time the other day, and I just loved it; it was like nothing I had ever seen before. I mean, it was just like… Leave it to the Japanese to find a way to make fucking death metal cute. But it was awesome. And the crowd… The crowd was going fucking apeshit. The amount of crowdsurfing and stage diving and just complete mayhem, which made it even funnier, 'cause it's three cute little girls doing fucking karate on stage and shit, and these guys [that are backing them] are dressed like ghosts, all in white. It's the most bizarre fucking thing. It's totally worth watching; it's so good."

⚡ 💀 💕 / 🏴 🏴 🏴 "Stand up and shout, Shout!, Justice Forever!" - (Road of Resistance) - BABYMETAL's producer Koba built the whole project around Suzuka Nakamoto (Su-metal, or Su) and her "no holds back" singing. He was a big metal head and thought her voice would be interesting combined with metal music. The Kami Band members at this concert were Takayoshi Ohmura (guitar), BOH (bass), Hideki Aoyama (drums) & Leda Cygnus (guitar). This was the last song of a three song encore. The venue was Saitama Super Arena (SSA) in January of 2015, with a sold out crowd of over 20,000. Su first appeared at SSA in 2008 as a member of the JPop trio Karen Girl's, when she was 10 years old. She's been back many times since with BABYMETAL. Looks like there are some great suggestions for your next song. Since you've done a Su solo, and one with all three original members, perhaps a Black BABYMETAl song (Yui & Moa without Su) should be next.

- Yes, everything they do is very choreographed. They rehearse these shows a LOT and really perfect every aspect, like a well oiled machine. - Su-Metal IS very intense. That’s your first experience with the legendary Su-Metal death glare. She may be small but her presence on stage is massive. - This song actually was a collab with Dragonforce. Sam Totnam and Herman Li wrote the guitar parts for this song and recorded the studio version as wells - Live shows are BABYMETAL’s specialty. They’ve gone on several world tours and sold out big arenas around the world, such as Wembley in London, The Forum in Los Angeles, and the Tokyo Dome. - At this show, Su-Metal was 17 years old and Moametal and Yuimetal were 15 years old. Su was born on 12/20/1997, Yui was born on 6/20/1999, and Moa was born on 7/4/1999. - I have always found it interesting that they often interact with the crowd in English, even in Japan. A lot of the videos they play at their shows are in English, their big announcement about The Avengers in 2019 was in English. They’ve always done that. - On their normal songs, Su-Metal does most of the of the vocals, it different between songs obviously. Some songs will be almost entirely Su and some others Yui and Moa have a lot of parts, it just depends. Yui and Moa do a lot of the backup vocals as well. Su has her four solo songs, one of which was Rondo obviously. Yui and Moa have songs as a duo as well, where they sing without Su, this is called “Black BABYMETAL” and they have four songs as well. - They don’t lip-sync. Well, Su-Metal doesn’t. Early on Moa and Yui didn’t really use live mics, but they were also like 12 and running all over the place so what do you expect lol. There are definitely plenty of parts in songs where Su will lip-sync for effect but it’s pretty obvious and it’s more for the showmanship. The actual like, singing parts are all live. Su sounds WAY better live than she does in the studio versions. If you wanna see the others sing, look up “Black BABYMETAL” and do one of those songs.
@chrisharris15223 жыл бұрын
A lot of these live videos have post production done on them, because selling the DVDs is where they make a lot of their money. Su is always live although it does get tidied up and layering is added, often they will completely replace the girls ( the two younger ones) vocals with pre recorded tracks for the DVD, and sometimes the girls do lip sync when it is a particularly intensive choreography or the harmonies with Su need to be spot on, I have heard fan cam footage where they definitely are singing live and then seen the official video of the same song at the same show and they appear to be lip syncing. So the answer is yes and no, at times they do for the sake of putting on a better show but its never done in a deceptive way.

It also gives a feeling of: Babymetal is like a foreign world class act which is performing in Japan.

Great & thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。In your video, Su shouted some words at 09:36 meaning "Bring them on!". Japanese fans analyzed that the shout was thrown at people who had been ignoring, underrating, mocking, hating and even trying to discredit BABYMETAL. In their concert, the crowd becomes a part of their performance, intentionally or unintentionally. Nobody can just watch the stage and listen to the music without moving bodies. It is irresistible. Functions of Moa & Yui are "conductors to orchestrate unorganized crowd", "interpreters of lyrics with a kind of sigh language", "cheer leaders to excite the audiences (they are already & always excited, though)" and more importantly "forming a triangle which makes their performance look more dramatic".

Hello. Good reaction. At first you wondered if the song would be different from Rondo of Nightmare. All BabyMetal songs are different from each other. Especially on the third album, Metal Galaxy, where they delve into the fusion of metal with other genres. SuMetal is, indeed, the main vocalist of the group. MoaMetal and YuiMetal (who unfortunately had to leave the group in 2018 due to health problems) are showgirls and dancers. BabyMetal is first and foremost an idol group, and idols dance hahahahaha. Yui and Moa are in this concert 15 years old (I could be wrong, but it would be by a margin of 1 year at most) and SuMetal would be between 16 and 17 I estimate. To hear Yui and Moa sing, you must choose songs from the Black BabyMetal subgroup where Su does not participate. I think you have asked for songs that we think you may not like ... Difficult choice for BabyMmetal Fans, believe me, but if I had to tell you any I would say "song 4" (I love it, but it is such a strange song that you may not like ).

To answer a few of your questions in short sentences : - Su is the main vocalist. She has solos but the two side girls also have their own duet songs that they perform live without Su. They often hit the hardest aswell. - There is a certain amount of backtrack for various instruments like piano, synth, or certain types of vocal but Su for the most part never lipsyncs (with 1 or 2 exceptions). - The two side girls have went back and forth depending on the concert with lipsyncing because their dance routine is very demanding. For the concerts that they did not lipsync in, you could clearly hear them being out of breath a lot of the time. For the most part nowadays, it's a bit of both and it depends on various conditions. - This is an early 2015 concert. Su is older by 1.5 years than the two sides Yui & Moa. By this time, BABYMETAL was already a thing for 5 years. Su had just turned 17 while Yui & Moa were both still 15. - When BABYMETAL was formed in 2010, Su was almost 13 while Yui & Moa were both 11 and a half years old. They're now all in their early 20's. - Trying to describe BABYMETAL and its rich history and lore would take up way more characters than YT can handle. You'll have to either take a deep dive or swallow the information little by little. - Despite the popular misconception, BABYMETAL had VERY humble beginnings and had to grind their way to the top the hard way. The project wasn't meant to last more than a couple years. - They do have hovering platforms. In different ways. At different occasions. Their live shows are always very well produced (ever since they got the budget for it anyway). - Their choreographed dance shouldn't be overlooked. Interpretative dancing is an important part of Japanese culture and their dance moves always carry meaning and are meant to both encourage crowd participation in various ways and carry the message of the song. - Their choreographer is actually one of Japan's most respected and sought after in the country. She was involved in the representation of Japan at the 2016 Olympics in Brazil and was also appointed into the planning committee for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. - Yui & Moa's roles aren't to be overlooked either. Despite not being as involved in the vocals as Su is, they do a tremendous amount of work on stage to get the crowds hyped and entertained.

Here's the thing... BABYMETAL has limited their musical style in much the same way that bricks have limited their ability to hang in mid-air. They don't. Pick a BABYMETAL song at random and the resulting analysis will be, "That's [genre x] mixed with rock/metal. Who has done that before?" The only thing missing is Country (so far). Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!, Iine!, BxMxC, KARATE, GJ!, Akatsuki, YAVA!, Uki Uki Midnight, Tales of the Destinies... Completely different songs. Completely different styles. But all of them are bound together because the underlying styles have been run through the musical blender that is BABYMETAL. In Road of Resistance you mention Dragonforce. They wrote the guitar parts for the song and played on the studio track. That may be why it sounds like them. Nice catch. Su-metal is the lead singer and THE vocalist. Su is credited as "Vocal & Dance". Moametal and Yuimetal are officially credited as "Scream & Dance" though they do have four songs without Su. Moa and Yui performing together are called Black Babymetal, and their four songs are probably the heaviest in the catalogue. The four songs are: GJ!, Onedari Daisakusen, 4 no Uta (Song 4), and Sis.Anger. All are worthy of review. Su-metal has four solos as well: Akatsuki, Amore, No Rain No Rainbow, and the aforementioned Rondo of Nightmare. There is TECHNICALLY a fifth Su solo, but only during live shows in 2018. It was originally called Tattoo, but when it came out officially it was called Kagerou and it was no longer a solo. So depending on which video you're watching... Quick note: If you ever see the band in skeleton costumes, the music is a recording. The vocals are (most likely) live, but the band are mimes performing to the studio track. They are called Babybones. Su-metal was born in DEC 1997. Yui was born in JUN 1999. Moa was born in JUL 1999. This performance was recorded in JAN 2015. So, doing the math: Su had just turned 17, and Yui & Moa were 15. A song you might hate? Something electronic? The MOST electronic is BxMxC, but it's a HARD song. I would go with Iine! (iine!, not Line!)

Su is THE vocalist. Moa and Yui are backup vocals (or scream as they describe it). Yui and Moa are first and foremost dancers, but also they connect with the crowd so very well. They have 4 songs (2 from each of the first two albums) where it's only Yui and Moa singing. When it's just the two of them, they are also know as Black Babymetal. I understand that the choero is a little weird to those not used to jpop and kpop, but speaking from personal experience.. at their live concerts, it really spreads some hype energy to the crowd. They are always smiling, dancing and interacting with their crowds and their positive energy is extremely infectious if you are just a little open minded. Also they really give 110% when they perform. Even at small venues. And Su is such a great live singer. She did have a slight instability at times a few years back because her voice was maturing and she had to adapt her technique to their older songs, but now she is just amazing! And you can really tell she loves what she does.

Well, how far in the air is the question. Moa and Yui regularly stands on an about 30cm platform at the edge of the stage. At one time they stand on platforms about 4 meters tall (I think it was SSA 2015). During Budokan Suu was famously standing on 2 meters rising platform, not to mention all the times she's being crucified on a platform. And of course there's that tower at the Tokyo Dome show (about 20 meters maybe?). But yeah, the scariest one was that during THE ONE hahahaha

Here's your answer to the question about vocal duties: Most songs, Su does the main singing, Yui and Moa do the backing. Some songs are just Su. Some songs are just Yui and Moa, these are called Black Babymetal. They're the heaviest songs by far.

They premiered this song first in the UK and the crowd did the whole sing-along/make a circle pit on Su's command thing quite happily. I saw them last year in a smaller venue (2000 standing) and they were excellentAF. Su is 23 now and Moa and Yui are 22 (though Yui has left now). That bridge lifts up on "Rondo of nightmare" song at this concert, with Su Metal on it. Su Metal born in 1997, Moa and Yui metal born in 1999. This vid was recorded on a concert in 2015

Su sings almost everything. The other two girls do mostly do shouts and stuff, and sometimes enhance sound by also singing. But Moa and Yui can sing. Sometimes only they sing. Then they call themself Black Baby Metal. Maybe because they are a bit mischievous. GJ, "4 no uta" and "Sis Anger" are really good. Sis Anger is also a bit black actually. There are some people they really hate, and they are out in the audience. Something you probably do not like? Maybe iine. They also have some new songs that are not all that much heavy. Some also dislike "gimme chocolate", but I think it is fun. Something surprising? Then think about "Baby Metal Death". There are different versions. Two of them are very heavy. The one called "death legend 1997" is the darkest one. Most people go: "what?". But then you have to remember that they are really only cute girls that likes to play, and nothing else. Although it looks scary, it is only for fun. And it all has a surprising meaning. They are only telling their names and the band name, nothing else. All other is show.

Yeah, he ought to think of Slipknot, the two extra percussionists who add vocals to augment Corey. It's not a slight to them, they are playing a role in the performance and get to shine periodically in different song and give the lead a chance to catch a breath.
@stuffandwhatnot44013 жыл бұрын
I suspect that the accusations of lip synching come from the official videos for either "Pa pa ya" or "Gimme Chocolate" where Amuse overlaid live footage with the studio track for some reason or a compilation cut. The first time I saw the actual concert footage from which the "Pa pa ya" video was taken, for example, I was struck by the fact the Su's voice was noticeably deeper. Not deep, mind you, just deeper. Anyone who watches multiple actual live performances knows for a fact that she doesn't lip synch since there are always nuance differences in the performance.

Their first very first 2.5 concerts at the end of 2012 were mostly lipsynced and fake band (the guys in the black skeleton body suits). During the encore performance of the 3rd concert, they introduced the Kami Band and the songs were all sung live.

@@stuffandwhatnot4401 I think because it was the encore part of the concert, they used it as a test run. Every concert thereafter was with the Kami Band and all sung live except for the parts I mentioned about Su-metal's prerecorded harmonies. Most of the time Yui and Moa are both singing with their own back tracks. You can hear the resonance. But because you don't know when they do it, it's not that noticeable. It's incredibly hard to sing while doing all that aerobics! In the live performances, if you listen really closely, you can hear sometimes Su-metal's voice wavers and out of breath. But you have to really listen.

Su was 17 here. By this point she had figured out she plays on a world stage, and her comments to the crowd are in English with rare exceptions. Yui and Moa do Japanese in Japan. Their crowds btw are always international; where ever they play fans fly in from across the world, especially the big shows like this. The band was formed around Su's voice, and she is the driving force behind the band. She dictates the mix for the live shows for example Yui and Moa are highly choreographed, which is cultural, interpreting lyrics through dance. Goes back centuries in Kabuki. Su however, can take choreo as a suggestion, and on occaison change it up without warning anyone. Her choreographer says Su is crazy. Moa dreams up the idea for the choreo, and the choreographer works with her ideas to develop a stage routine. The girls are more involved than you would think. Yui had to leave due to a health condition and is no longer with. Da Da Dance I bet you won't like. It's recent and half the shots are from a show in LA at the Forum. It's dance metal.

Su split that crowd like a little Japanese Moses. There are enough fan cams that show that the singing is live. The fans like the live version because of the entire show experience. Fun facts, they once performed Pain Killer and Breaking the Law with Rob Halford of Judas Priest. They once performed Breaking the Law with The Red Hot Chili Peppers, now there was a show. Next I would suggest either Gimme Chocolate or BxMxC the official version.

Su-metal was born Dec 1997, Moametal in Jul 1999 and Yuimetal, who's no longer with the band, in Jun 1999, so they were 17 and 15 respectively when that show was performed. A relatively easy way to tell Moa and Yui apart is, Moa is mostly on the right side of your screen and has the glove on her left hand, Yui is mostly on the left side and has a glove on her right hand. Also, Moa has the most expressive face of the three, smiles the most and has very noticable dimples. I obviously can't speak for anyone else, but one thing why I personally think they're way better live, is the mixing. BABYMETAL was a sub-group of a J-Pop idol group called Sakura Gakuin at the beginning (2010 to 2013) and released their first few singles under their banner, so especially the first album is mixed in a very poppy way that's super focused on vocals and sometimes gives off a vibe that the music is only necessary background noise. Best example is Headbanger in my opinion. Super good and heavy song when performed live, but the album version is super poppy in comparison because it's much more and overly focused on the vocals. The second and third album are way better in that regard and Su's natural voice in live performances also sounds much better than the often overproduced vocals on the albums (excluding the third album, Metal Galaxy, which was mixed pretty well). And the biggest thing about live > album is, of course, the Kami Band. They only play live shows and are, with very few exceptions, not involved in the recordings of their albums. You're right, Su-metal is the main vocalist, the other two provide the bulk of the choreo, backup vocals, "screaming" and harmonies. Meta Taro is a song in which Moa and Yui have more lines, but the only available version fit for a KZfaq reaction is a bad compilation. Songs you may not like (I think you have about the same taste as I do, judging from your electronic comments): Iine (yes that's a double i, it's not Line), Uki Uki Midnight, Pa Pa Ya, Da Da Dance.

The producers are genius. They do these two shows, maybe one or two later for videos and blow it out. The rest are in smaller venues or as opening acts. The smaller shows they don't try to spend all the cash on the show and give you an hour of Babymetal if you are lucky. Perfume and One OK Rock are from the same production and they each have thier own strength. The musicions are grab and growel depending on where and when they play. Su is a beast and will succeed ... This is the second band she has made it with ... Mikiko Mizuno is the choregrapher for Babymetal and Perfume, also the 2016 Summer Olympics closing cerimony. The dance troup Elevenplay is hers too and they do crazy intense acts. Only one I haven't caught is the Olympics so far and that isn't happening.

It is mainly Su on vocals. Until Yui left - unofficially at the end of 2018 - she and Moa were mainly back up as singers, and often not singing, especially with later songs. There do, however, exist some songs with either two as soloists and together as a duo named Black Babymetal. Along with occasional showcases for the Kami Band , this gave all three the chance for some rest periods within a high energy show. The Kami Band only became the de facto live stage band as Babymetal broke away from their Idol/shared stage backing track routes in 2012. Until then they used (very good) backing tracks employing very good musicians. Road of Resistance was studio recorded by Herman Li and pals, but on stage was only performed with the Kamis. There were shows from mid 2012 where newer tracks were played with the live Kami Band, and other older cuter songs with backing tracks mimed by Baby Bones - actors dressed as skeletons with unplugged in instruments - very normal in Japan. In the early days (18 months perhaps)there simply wasn’t enough money for a live band when they only had a slot in a general Idol show when most of the other bands were definitely pop. Even their early MVs were done on a shoestring, although with a lot of creativity.

When you said about the stage in the middle raising up it made me think you should watch the version of this song from the Legend Metal Galaxy - Day 1 concert. No matter anyone's opinion about Babymetal I don't think anyone can deny that their stage productions are of epic proportions. Su can really sing, Yui and Moa sound adorable and really do have good voices as well. Even if the dancing isn't really your thing (which is understandable in my opinion, it isn't everyone's cup of tea) I think you might agree with me that it's still impressive for them to stick to such high levels of energetic dance moves while maintaining control over their voices/not sounding out of breath. Honestly just looking at that makes me feel exhausted. The Kami band is amazing as always. Got nothing bad to say about them, ever. It is mostly Su who sings, with Yui and Moa in the back, and being the dancers. There are a couple of songs who focus more on Yui and Moa. The one that I would recommend to you the most would probably be 'Sis Anger'. Sadly Yui is no longer with the band, so if you ever check out later performances you will find a new third dancer... probably a different one each performance. There's three new girls fighting for a spot on Babymetal, they're called the Avengers. They don't sing and only dance, but they're quite amazing as well. Anyways, glad to see that you stuck with Babymetal for another song. I can understand that it's not entirely your genre, but I appreciate it when people give bands a fair chance.

I’m sure it’s already been answered but I’ll weigh in as well. On the lip sync front, there are parts in several songs where backing tracks are utilized. Most notably from what you’ve seen in Rondo of Nightmare, the lo-fi portion where the band cuts out and it’s just Su singing very ethereally is a backing track, always has been as that technique is incredibly difficult to pull off well consistently live. There are also layered vocal backing tracks utilized for harmonizations and such. Moametal recently has also been virtually all backtrack though for the concerts they are currently performing in Japan she seems to be live again which is nice to see. The only time you will see full lip sync performances from Babymetal are the very early performances when they did small appearances at places like Tower Records in Japan or for some of the Sakura Gakuin concerts they performed a song or two at.

Thank you for your honest reaction. Dragonforce wrote and recorded the studio track. When they wrote the guitar parts, they wrote it to be played faster because they knew they wouldn't have to play it on a regular basis. But the Kami Band nailed it and then some. This was a live performance in 2015. What was left out was the 2 additional minutes of them going to each side of the theater to do the "We are...Babymetal." chant while the band continues to riff. That's 16 chants altogether. And I can understand the end part with the audience chanting was long, but if you're in that audience and participating, you don't ever want to stop. Su-metal was born at the end of 1997. Moametal and Yuimetal were both born in the middle of 1999. And understand that almost every song they invest this much energy into the choreography. I get out of breath just watching them.
