🇧🇬 HOW IS IT ALL SO GOOD!?
We are so excited to try a bunch of different Bulgarian food (and Bulgarian street foods) especially the raved about Shopska salad.
We started our DIY Sofia food tour with a BANG, trying Banitsa at one of the most recommended bakeries in Sofia. It wasn't a surprise they were amazing, what was a surprise is which one we like the best!
We then unfortunately had a not so good time at a local favourite cafe before the day really rallied and we had a few traditional Bulgarian foods at Izbata tavern!
I think we nailed the Bulgarian food tour!
Thanks for watching!

Stuffed peppers, sarmi, tripe soup, kapama and apetizers like lyutenica, lukanka, kiopolo, banski starets, file elena :D The problem in Bulgaria is that if you want to taste traditional good bulgarian foods it must be home made, not in restaurants, they prefer the profit above the quality.

You missed using the Bulgarian alphabet in your description!

Thank you for the tour guys! Glad you enjoyed your time in Sofia. Just a clarification though, banitsa and burek are quite different. Bulgaria has burek as well, but banitsa is a very specific thing that only exists in Bulgaria and I believe in Southeast Serbia they have something similar.

Its a bit weird when you say Sirene Cheese as you are basically saying Cheese Cheese. Sirene is one of the two words we use that mean cheese in english, sirene is basically "White cheese". People do indeed want to make foreigners try boza as not many like it. We do drink it but we also grew up getting used to the taste as well, a lot more common is eating banitsa with airyan (its a drink consisting of yogurt a bit of water and salt to taste). Those mekitsi looked strange to me with those toppings as traditionally they are only topped with powdered sugar and nothing else, the dough itself is sweet enough. As for the pottery used for the baked dishes it makes them cook more evenly by trapping the heat inside the pot and the meats/beans taste richer more tender etc.
