Well, I'd say that the SETTING of THIS one was something unique and original about it. I mean a halfway house instead of another camp? I think THAT's something which should be noted and given some props for. Also, THIS one seemed to have KOOKIER CHARACTERS than the previous ones, like the redneck woman and her son. And some IRONIC HUMOR, like in how these two characters were calling the people at the home "loony" and "crazy" yet THEY themselves seemed even nuttier. I found THAT pretty funny.

This was filmed very close to me here in Southern California. The halfway house is in Camarillo, mostly filmed in Moorpark but the Diner scene with Lana is the legendary "Rock Store" in Agoura Hills. I liked how Tommy took no shit. He picked that first guy up like he was nothing and slammed his stupid ass to the floor through a table. And him beating up the idiot son of that annoying bitch. This movie suffers mostly from poor planning, as well as interference from the studio execs and the MPAA. The basic idea of someone else doing the killing after Jason's death was actually a pretty solid one. And using Tommy as a red herring as to the identity of the killer was a good idea. It was just executed very poorly. The unnecessary close ups of Roy looking all creepy was a dead give away as to who the killer was. Had those scenes been cut, and Tommy had been given scenes where he sees hallucinations of Jason just before each murder happens would have made it much better. I also would have had a news report that Vic had escaped police custody and was now at large and considered armed and dangerous as another red herring, only to have Pam and Reggie find his mutilated body in the barn hayloft near the end. The MPAA are the ones who insisted on the toned down death scenes, which is why the deaths were so much less bloody in this one. They also insisted on the love scene between the couple in the woods be trimmed down by a lot, which is why the homeless drifter was introduced. Originally that scene was a lot longer and showed a lot more. The studio insisted that there be either a false jump scare or a kill (preferably a kill) once every 5 to 7 minutes in the movie. Thus the movie has a much higher victim count than any of the previous entries in the series (the first two had 9 each, the third had 12, the fourth had 13, and this one had 20). Thus this is the first movie to really lean into the "introduce a character and then kill them off" trope which unfortunately has become a staple of the franchise. Introduce Joey and then kill him. Introduce the two greasers and then kill them. Introduce the waitress and her boyfriend and then kill them. Introduce the homeless drifter and then kill him. Introduce Demon and Nina and then kill them. Sure it gives us a bigger body count, but because we don't get to know any of the characters introduced we don't care that they're being killed off. It also robs the film of the time it needs to build up any tension and suspense. Most of those kills could have been eliminated in favour of building up tension, suspense, and developing the core group of characters that we're ACTUALLY supposed to be caring about. TLDR: This movie would have been better with fewer kills, more suspense, more character development of the core characters, making the killer less obvious, and making Tommy (and possibly Vic) a better red herring(s).

Deborah Voorhees told me that the longer sex scene was just a rumor that was spread around.
@Thundarr100
@Thundarr100 3 жыл бұрын
@@alucard624 What does that have to do with anything though? Traci Lords got started in porn (before she was legally old enough even) but that doesn't take away from her performance in Cry Baby (starring Johnny Depp). And from a technical perspective, shooting a porno and shooting a horror are very similar. Each scene has a steady build up to a climax. With porn it's the sex leading up to the money shot. With horror/slashers it's the tension and suspense leading up to the kill. Friday The 13th Part 5 was pretty much a clip show of money shots in porn. All due to Studio Interference.
@Thundarr100
@Thundarr100 3 жыл бұрын
@@molasorrosalom4846 Really? Interesting. Maybe the longer sex scene was planned but never shot, and the details got mixed up through retellings (telephone game)? Because on the Making Of Featurette on the Deluxe Edition DVD, the director said that the sex scene was supposed to be longer to give the audience a break from all the killings but they were told "No", which is why the homeless drifter was killed off in that scene.

This is where they really started to slide into self-parody, though Fake Jason actually kills more people in this film than the real Jason did in any prior single film. Part six kind of just pretends this never happened. It's funny looking at it in modern times, as we've jumped forward about ten years to when Tommy is grown, and yet somehow we're still clearly in the '80s.

While this movie was one of the “poorer” efforts in the eyes of most fans, I give it a bit more credit for 2 reasons. Firstly, it has the most number of unique kills out of the whole series in a single film. Secondly, I liked the twist (of sorts) that it was a fake Jason doing all of this. It was sort of like an R-rated Scooby-Doo: “Now we’ll see who the Ghost of Jason really is… *gasp* it’s Roy!” “Yeah, and I would have gotten away with it too, if those meddling kids hadn’t killed me first.”

Went to the Chicago Horror Convention today, had a blast. The actor who played Ethel and Junior reenacted a scene for me, of course after I bought an autographed picture from both. Talked with Deborah Voorhees about how she was fired twice from teaching because of the nudity in the movie. Chatted with Shawnee Smith, asked her about any stories from "The Stand," and I guess she replaced Diane Lane, which pissed off Rob Lowe. Also, she improved the scene where she throws a shoe at him, and does a crazy run, once again he was pissed, but the crew were dying with laughter. Her daughter was there with her. Vasquez from Aliens was there, and her best friend from the movie was there, he's 64 years old and still jacked for his age. He pretty much said that during all of last year and this year, he was hitting the weights, cardio, good diet, etc.

I actually liked this one. It at least had a plot (unlike part 3). But I agree they gave too many clues about the killer's identity making it easy enough to figure out. The only mystery held until the end was his motive.

They've basically been experimenting since part 4 if fans would like tommy becoming the killer with these "dream" scenes, since they've advertised it as the final chapter, but it made money back. They really wanted to finish this "franchise" which was not supposed to have even part one, but made good money and fans wanted jason. Fans still didn't wanted tommy after part 5, they wanted jason. It's basically fan fiction with not a lot of thought put into it. Served as advertisement for 3D, Savini props, an ex porn director made part 5, cheaply paid "actors", you name it.

I watched Crystal Lake Memories awhile ago. Well, according to the actor who played Reggie, Violet's death had her being stabbed a little lower, but someone, either the studio execs or the MPAA, told them no. Editing to add this. John Shepherd turned down playing Tommy again for Jason Lives. Because of that, plans to include Pam and Reggie in Jason Lives were scrapped, as John Shepherd, Melanie Kinnaman, and Shavar Ross were considered a package deal.

Originally the kills in this movie were very brutal and gory. Example: the girl that was dancing was originally split down the middle starting from her va jay jay. So the movie became a victim of the MPAA who wouldn't let the movie go to theaters unless the kills were watered down. That's why almost every scene in this movie has the kill taking place off screen/off camera. to this day none of those scenes have ever surfaced on any dvd or blu ray. some of the scenes were supposedly destroyed or lost. the MPAA also did this to some of the other Friday the 13th movies and those deleted scenes have never been seen as well. I remember watching this movie in theaters. years later we rented it out and my mom made me shut it off. not because of the horror or the kills but because every other sentence in this movie contain a bad word. So many F-bombs and all that.

As a younger boy, I chose my favorite Friday movies by how awesome Jason looked in the movie and didn't pay too much attention to the plots of the movies. So part III is one of my FAVORITES cause I think Jason just looks so menacing! The giant, hulking, backwoods looking type! And on that note, part VI, the next one to watch has one of my favorite looking Jason's EVER! They somehow got him to look modern and classic all at the same time....

The actor playing Tommy in this had no idea it was a horror movie. He was told it was a movie about a camp. He was horrified when he discovered what he'd actually signed on for. Dude's hardcore religious, but props to him for not bowing out, at least. EDIT: Also, the guy chopping wood who kills the heavy-set kid was in Return of the Living Dead. He played the main punk, the one with the chain on his face. Suicide, think his name was. If I recall right, he passed away not long after this movie.

@@111highgh No, he had no career because he didn't really want one. Also, he's not an awful actor. He's behaving exactly like a traumatized person would. I don't think he was okay before he killed Jason as a kid.
