7:16 I like to imagine how the conversation went between the (4 different) writers who worked on this story. -"Okay. We gotta bring Freddy back, and I don't wanna spend a lot time on it. Ideas?" -"Well, what if a... dog just kinda... took a leak on the spot where we buried him last time... only the dog pisses fire! And then the fire... just kinda burns across the dirt for a minute, and the ground opens up - because, ya know, fire - revealing Freddy's bones... which just kinda move themselves into the right position. Then we could just make a wax sculpture of Freddy, melt it down and run the footage in reverse . Boom! Freddy's up and running 10 minutes in." -"You had me at 'dog pissing fire.' Moving on...."

I would argue this one deals more so with alice herself and her character development (which does include most of the same themes 1-3 do). However, the difference is that parts 4 and use those themes solely in alice's development - rather than a theme for the whole movie. If i were to give part 4 an overarching theme, it'd be how in an effort to connect with people, alice inadvertently sucks others into her own ongoing trauma, rather than dealing with it herself. The change being when she chooses to confront the thing that's currently haunting her and therefore facing her own problems rather let everyone else try and fail to do it for her.

The morale of this story is if your dog starts having flaming fire pee, don't call your Vet. Call an exorcist. You probably just awoke a dream demon. haha. I enjoy this movie a lot, but that rebirth of Freddy was TOOOOO silly. The visuals in this Film were stunning and in my opinion, this is the last time in the series they get the balance of Deadly Freddy with Comedic Freddy just right. This was my entry point into A Nightmare on Elm Street as a kid, so it's a special one. I always liked that there was an actual chemistry between the new group of "Elm Street kids", and it kinda made you feel for each character, knowing most of them wouldn't make it. I have mixed feelings about "The Dream Master". There are a lot of things I love and a lot of things I definitely don't. The nightmares of this movie are the most visually beautiful in the franchise, it has one of the best kills in the franchise (the cockroach), one of Freddy's best defeats, the cast is great, Lisa Wilcox is a great "final girl" and the song that plays in the opening credits is amazing. But God, I HATE it when sequels kill the surviving protagonists from previous movies at the begining just to make it clear that the villain is more dangerous than ever. It's lazy, it's cynical and it makes me feel like the previous movie was a waste of time (at least with Nancy in "Dream Warriors", they waited until the end to kill her). It doesn't help that the new characters are much more one-dimensional. "The Dream Master" also marks the transition from Fredyd Krueger from the sinister villain in these films to the protagonist of the franchise, who makes jokes all the time, and I honestly don't think that was a good thing. And unfortunately it would get worse in the next two movies...

It also doesn't explain how the new kids don't have dream powers besides Alice. It was a cool idea for the teens to have their own abilities and skills and they went to that idea ever since Dream Warriors. Well, maybe Dream Child with Mark but still, there should've been more.

How I rationalized it in my mind was that Freddy didn’t come back stronger, but laid dormant while the remaining Warriors’ powers grew weaker from inactivity. It stands to reason that a demon that comes to you in your dreams can never truly be killed so any sign of his return should’ve been taken seriously. @Brandon Spain the dream warriors developed their powers over months or years of fending off Freddy’s attacks. Which leads me to my main issue.. in the first 3 movies Freddy seemed to stalk his victims over an extended period of time, feeding off their fear and gradually gaining enough power to be able to kill them in their sleep. Even without being shown it was always implied that all the kids were seeing Freddy in their dreams. But in movies 4 on it seemed like he was able to just pop up randomly and kill somebody having their first nightmare.

Nightmare 4 is my favourite in the series and fun fact it was the highest-grossing slasher sequel in 1980s, smashed all kinds of box office records at that time. Sadly people seem to have been forgotten about this one :(. It just is a very watchable movie. Also a very positive one. Having rewatched it in pandemic and I feel it is a very inspiring film. It expands on the high school setting and story structure of the first, and the fantasy-esque tone of 3. IMO it really is the prime of the saga. Having Kristen killed then replaced by Alice is a wonderful way to introduce a false protagonist then really introduce the main protagonist, something the original has done with Tina and Nancy. 4 also has some of the most stylish shots in the series, the fight scenes, the soundtrack, the practical effects are phenomenal. Alice Johnson's character arc is a truly impressive and uplifting one, as she slowly goes over grief and becomes a heroine at the end.

I also thought that looked like the Diner from Back to the Future. Very Creepy Bug Scene. 😨 What will they think of next? 🥴🙄 Alice thinks she's Ripley from Aliens, but she messed up the line. 🤣 Looking forward to your next video. 😀🍿🪲

In this Nightmare 4 Freddie is using their worst scares/fears/phobias. He's playing on them and I do agree that Debbie must have taken advantage of those bug arms instead of panicking 😢

Love the scene where Alice breaks out of her scary shy self. And takes on the role of being a bad a@# chick in the end, who had all of her friends taken from her. Had a big time crush on Alice 🙌

@@calisthenicsmachine9725 Absolutely unbelievable when I was a teen in the 80's. 80's slashers were the bomb in high school. Classmates talked about it endlessly. I recall doing class assignment writing on post card type note cards while in class with year younger classmates. Thinking of of this movie. Younger classmates discussed this movie. I had Superior knowledge of film history given my older age. I was considered legend.

This one was without of doubt one of my favorite ones out of the series. This and part 6. Pretty much after part 3, Freddy got a lot of flack for not being "scary" as he started out to be. Me I don't think that should be an issue because not all horror movies are scary and there are certain types of horror movies that certain writers go for. Look at Jason and Michael Myers for example, they are known for jump scares and making your heart race by popping out of nowhere. Whereas Freddy is the sadistic type where he uses his horror for creativity and making the audience have a look of disgust, whether he's using tongue metaphors, transforming you into a bug, etc etc. Us Freddy fans find that entertaining and to us that's what makes him so special because he's different from any other horror killer. And he was the first one to bring comedy into slasher films and it influenced people after him like Chucky, Leprechaun, even Jason, and Michael Overall, I wished Freddy didn't get flack for his sequels. People can hate on the sequels but at least all of his sequels, related to his previous ones, one by one. Unlike a lot of these other horror films💯💯

Somehow, I have seen this sequel the most out of all the Nightmare on Elm Street movies. Probably watched it 3 or 4 dozen times when I was a kid. By comparison, I've probably seen the 5th one half that many times, and all the others I'd say 2 or 3 times each. Don't ask me how or why - I don't know. It is what it is. And I agree, the opening song kills it. Excellent.

This is my third favorite opus of the series, behind 1 and 7. As a teenager, I was totally in love with Alice (I definitely have a thing for strong kicking ass girls, I also had a crush for Hilary Swank because of Miss Karate Kid, and for Sarah Michelle Gellar because of Buffy). My favorite kill in this one, is Rick's one, because he fought back. Trivia : in the French dub of the movie, they mistranslated the rhyme, instead of "Devil will see itself and it shall die" the rhyme says the equivalent of "I will see the devil and kill him", plus Freddy has another line before that where he says the equivalent of "I kept my door (refering the dreams door mentioned in the class with Bob Shaye) for a long time" so it kinda twisted the perception I had of this movie : I always considered that Freddy was the Dream Master, but as the Dream Master's role is to destroy evil at sight, seeing his reflection made him auto-destroy.

Could be that being the dream demon is the opposite of being the dream master as there are parallels showing that Freddy and Alice are opposites Besides the positive and negative gate thing theres “1, 2, Freddy’s Coming For You” and the “Dream Master” rhyme they could’ve had them be the same tune but made Dream Master be in the tune of the prayer of the first line The mirror gave Alice strength and confidence while it gave Freddy weakness I wonder how that works and if it’s just all mirrors that do that and he just has to look in one for him to be destroyed or does it have to be done by the Dream Master because Freddy attacked Nancy through a mirror in 1 and Kristen in 3

As much I love Tuesday Knight and yes that was her who sings the opening song in the beginning of the movie. I do Miss Patricia Arquette. I think I heard that she was pregnant during production so she wasn't able to do it.

I interviewed Andras Jones (Rick) back on the 24th of May 2004 and here is some extra trivia for you. Rick and Kirsten (Andras Jones and Tuesday Knight) actually met and dated whilst and after filming Nightmare 4. Andras told me that this film had a writers strike half way through, a director that barely spoke English (who was a Sophomore) he is surprised that this was the highest grossing Nightmare film, but he claims Nightmare 3 was his personal favourite :) . Rick maintains some communication with his Nightmare Crew until this day, namely Alice (Lisa Wilcox) and his Ex Kirsten (Tuesday Knight). There ya have it. GREAT reaction and a Cool movie.

Reason some scenes are "weird" is that there was a writer's strike at the time so some scenes where written a few hours before ie Rick's death scene originally he was meant to survive
