In an interview, Spike Lee revealed that he was kicked off the Morehouse campus during filming and banned from the HBCU because the president thought the movie depicted Black fraternities, sororities, and HBCUs negatively. Years later, after a new president was hired, he was welcomed back and is now on the board of trustees.
Storyline: At historically black Mission College, the activist-minded Dap (Laurence Fishburne) immerses himself in a world of political rhetoric and social movements -- one day he hopes to rally the students as a united front. At the other end of the spectrum, Julian (Giancarlo Esposito), the head of the biggest fraternity on campus, is more concerned with maintaining a strict social order. In between, Dap's conflicted cousin, Half-Pint (Spike Lee), spends most of his time rushing the fraternity.

Watching many black stars in their "hey-day"reminded me of another 1984 all black cast movie that launched a few careers and gave a few forgotten black role actors some much needed work to resurrect theirs. "A Soldier Story".

If I’m not mistaken, the back story on Julian and Dap is that they were once friends. However, the relationship changed after they pledged together and Dap dropped line.

Love this movie and funny thing is i moved to Atlanta as a teen when they filmed this near campus of Morris Brown. I worked in the summer learning to upholster furniture down off Castleberry Ln. That KFC was actually a Burger King they changed signage. My sister wound up going to Lincoln after watching this movie so its amazing how "entertainment"can penetrate the subconscious. Being older now and having more life experience I don't agree with as much of the political stuff but i think its good to have the discussion and provoke CONSTRUCTIVE thought especially at this age.

Spike Lee's sister was in this movie as well. She's in the darker skinned sorority. You can't miss her because they look like twins. She looks like Spike Lee in dr@g....

Nice work! ❤I love it when young people react to the classics. I used to play a clip from this movie every morning before I went to high school to help motivate me for the school day🤣. IMO the actors that would later become big stars other than the ones you called out (Spike, Laurence, Kadeem, Tisha, Jasmine and Cassi Davis from House of Payne, multiple Madea movies) are Samuel L Jackson (Too many movies to name), Giancarlo Esposito (Too many movies and TV shows to name), Bill Nunn (Do The Right Thing, New Jack City, Spiderman 1-3), AJ Johnson (Baby Boy, House Party), Tyra Ferrell (Boyz n the Hood, Poetic Justice), Daryl M. Bell (Different World), Roger Guenveur Smith (Do The Right Thing, X, He Got Game), Kasi Lemons (Silence of the Lambs, multiple director credits), and Ossie Davis (Too many movies to name)

This movie and do the right thing have always been my most favorite Spike Lee movies. Hope you do a reaction to that movie too. This movie has more likable characters than the other movie.

Lots of people got their start from this movie which is a feat in itself. Notice three people from A Different World are here as well, (Kadeem Hardison, Jasmine Guy, and Daryl M. Bell).
