The chili peppers said they could not understand how Fishbone, a band that came out from the beginning with incredible rhythm and melody, were not celebrated as much or more than them. The chili peppers were allowed to grow into a band. Fishbone were a BAND from the very start.

People didn't understand it, and I don't understand THAT... They were insane at Lalapaloosa in Orlando. This is one of my very favorite songs. Metal with soul. When I saw them in Naples Florida at a club about 13 years ago, it was a very different, intimate gig. They didn't play Servitude, but they did Swim. This place was two stories tall with a loft and the stage was about a 6" riser, no separation whatsoever from the crowd. They were all crammed up there so Angelo was in the crowd most of the time. He appears in front of me and sticks the mic in my face so I sing along for a few seconds. Then, he locks his hands together and somehow I understand he wants me to launch him up above the crowd so he can surf around, so I did. I bought one of his comics with CD after. I've seen hundreds of shows and sing in bands as well. That was the coolest, most feel good show I've ever been to in my life. Thank you Angelo and Fishbone! I will never forget that.

Who, who do you serve? For whose empire and for whose whims? Is your honor judged by men? Will you lie? Will you lie if they say it`s their will? Will you die or continue to kill? Until the generals all have their fill Craven cowards Armchair warriors You will serve them well What, what will you write? For whose pleasure, for whose delight? Will your readers see your light? Will you say... That the singer can`t blow you away? That we hate people just `cause they`re gay Women and children all stay away To whom, whom do you pray? Do dollars wash your sins away? Does God love cold hard cash? Do you say... If we all just continue to pay All our ailments will go away And our souls will be saved God`s not with you "Holy Roller" Your heart dwells in Hell Why, Why do you run? Our awareness has spoiled your fun Our eyes see you too clear Will you hide From the joy of expressing our pride For the leaders and people who`ve died While combating your genocide Chains are breaking Minds are waking Soon we`ll serve no more..

Idk but I like the cut of "old school" bands like this. They built as a ska band but weren't afraid to experiment with other genres and they killed it every single time. Kept it fresh. Kept it original. Most bands are kinda pussies now when it comes to variety. They're pressured by their labels and fans to keep a strict regiment on their sound. This was back when music was allowed to be fun, crazy, and free.

That the Red Hot Chili Peppers are millionaires and Fishbone swim in obscurity sickens me to no end. I played in a band that supported Fishbone on the ROMS tour, just watching them soundcheck with Sunless Saturday was a sight to behold. They were completely motionless and playing harder with more intent than most bands would in a typical show. Fishbone along with the Bad Brains should have taken over the world.

One of my favorite bands ever. They never got their due. Those of us who knew, knew. I wish there had been more. But maybe that would have ruined things. Musically, the perfect overlap of in-your-face rock, shake-it-til-ya-break-it funk, and the exact amount of ska to make it effective without pigeonholing them. All done with SOUL. ALWAYS with soul. Lyricism that spanned from a modern day psalmist calling out from the broken (but still hopeful) heart of humanity that tomorrow will be better, to being the unflinching witness on the stand who will not be denied the opportunity to irrefutably call out the bull$%×+ tactics used to institutionally manipulate the masses against each other and keep us all in our socio-economic ranks. Nothing and no one else like them. Truth and Soul.

They had already smashed a few hundred mosh pits before Nirvana released "Nevermind". They are surely one of the most influential and diverse band in history.
